Rohit Shetty Shares How Raju Chacha’s Box Office Failure Impacted Ajay Devgn (Photo Credit – Instagram)

Ajay Devgn’s first in-house production movie, Raju Chacha, was the most expensive film in 2000. It featured an incredible cast of actors like Kajol, Rishi Kapoor, and Johnny Lever and was made on a budget of Rs 25 crore.

However, it miserably tanked at the box office, collecting merely Rs 20 crore. It rendered a considerable loss to producer Ajay Devgn, who later had to pay a hefty price.

During a recent conversation with Ranveer Allahbadia at his show, where Ajay Devgn and Rohit Shetty were guests, the Singham Again director revealed that the monetary loss of Raju Chacha had a huge impact on Devgn’s life and forced him to make movies left, right, and centre to make up for it.

One of Bollywood’s most serious actors, Ajay Devgn, turned 55 on Tuesday and his actress-wife had the most hilarious way of wishing her star husband. Kajol took to X (formerly called Twitter) and shared a picture of the actor.

The actress wrote: “Since I know your soooooo excited about your birthday that your jumping up and down like a kid and clapping your hands and turning in circles at the thought of your cake… lemme start the day off by wishing u a very very very happy birthday @ajaydevgn.”

Ajay told Toi, “we are working on something for Kajol but let’s see if we are together or someone else. We should get the right kind of script to come together.”

The trend of remaking old films seems to go on and on in Bollywood. The latest is that producer Anil Vohra has acquired the rights to remake the 1980's Amitabh Bachchan- Shashi Kapoor starrer Do Aur Do Paanch. The remake of Do Aur Do Paanch will be directed by Anil Devgan (who has directed Ajay Devgn starrers like Blackmail and Raju Chacha in the past). The casting is yet to be finalized. The makers also plan to acquire the rights to use the original title song of 'Do Aur Do Paanch' which was composed by Rajesh Roshan.

Kajol and her mother, Tanuja will be reunited onscreen after their last venture, Rahul Rawail’s Bekhudi in 1992, which was actually Kajol’s debut film. The person responsible for bringing mum and daughter together is actor-producer, Ajay Devgn, in his forthcoming film, Toonpur Ka Superhero (Tks) releasing during Christmas 2010.

Directed by Kireet Khurana and scripted by Raaghi Bhatnagar, Tks is an animated action comedy which will revolve around Aditya, a superhero (Devgn) and his wife Priya (Kajol). Their children want him to be a superhero not just in reel life, but in real life too! Aditya then finds himself in Toonpur where he finds himself fighting against Toonasurs (bad toons) to save the Devtoons (good toons).
