Underrated dacoit drama.
nadkarnisumeet13 November 2020
Dacait review :

An underrated dacoit drama by director Rahul Rawail; Dacait has fantastic performance from Sunny Deol in the titular role and some excellent cinematography. Still, it didnt create any ripples at the box office when released. Interestingly, it was re-released at Sunny Deol's career peak in mid 90s as Faulaad and I had seen it in theatre at that time.

Sunny Deol plays Arjun, an educated guy who returns to his village only to find it being terrorised by cruel zamindar Raza Murad and corrupt cop Paresh Rawal. When his brother Suresh Oberoi tries to object to the tyranny, his entire family is wiped out in front of Sunny's eyes. Its quite a harrowing scene where Maa Rakhee is shaved bald and made to dance on drums even as Sunny's sister Urmila is openly molested by Zamindars goons.

Sunny picks up the gun and the rest of the film traces his vengeance as well as act of redemption. Meenakshi Seshadri played Sunny's love interest and they shared some cozy moments in a rain drenched song. Anita Kanwar was impressive as the doctorni who saves Rakhee. Raza Murad was effective as the main villain. Paresh Rawal was super chilling as the corrupt cop. His entry scene itself, creates a solid impact.

Overall, Dacait was a well executed film which sadly, didn't get its due. It easily ranks amongst Sunny's best performance. His fans shouldnt miss it!!

Regards, Sumeet Nadkarni.

Sunny's lean phase continued
superindrajit5 April 2012
Warning: Spoilers
Sunny Deol after his blockbuster debut with Betaab gave a few flops. He then gave a super hit Arjun but after that his lean phase continued till 1990 blockbuster Ghayal. Though, from 1985-1990 he had a few hits like Dacait, Joshilaay, ChaalBaaz, and another super hit Tridev. Sadly, he gave a disaster from 1989 by the name of Vardi another multistaring faliure. Dacait was one of his solo hits those days and it proved to be a comeback after more meaningful flops like Saveray Wali Gadi, Soni Mahival, and Samundar though Sultanat was a hit. Dacait for the first time in those days tells the story of how our hero is forced to become a Dacait after injustice is done to not only him but his family, the village etc. How he brings down the evil Zamindar and his assocaites who tortured him and made his mom mental in the past forms the crux of the story. Amitabh Bachchan had a Dacait drama from the early 1970s which flopped it was Ganga Ki Saugandh. This was actually the first Dacait film to become a success. The only flaws are the overdose of injustice like Sunny imprisoned and tortured as usual but this became more frequent starting from Ghayal(1990). The villains are extremely typecast and our main villain Raza Murad is not such a convincing actor. The ending is also a flaw because the police failed to shoot him every time and how come they succeed to kill Deol at the end after he takes his revenge. The film is well handled with limited flaws but it fails to entertain via the subplots and the romantic angle isn't convincing either. Overall, a hit film which was Deol's comeback in those days.

I love this movie.this movie is one of the best Bollywood movies on the cinema history. acting and directing is high quality.director (Rahul Rawail)is unusual and very strong.directing is like the best American western movies.this movie remembers us "sholay" movie too. best scenes is river side fight ,"arjun"gang attack to devil character:"Vishnu" and his soldiers to rescue "javli". acting by Bollywood stars:"sunny Deol" and "meenakshi Sheshadri" is top of other stars.but the most enjoyable character for me than other characters,is "Ahmed".

music is very good and specially in action scenes is very very exciting.songs is very beauty and feeling, like (Mere Yaar Ko Mere Allah) song. totally this movie is one of the best movies for Bollywood lovers.enjoy it .

Ahead Of Times

This was the first Indian movie to have depicted the excesses committed on the ordinary people by the British implemented corrupt Indian police system which subsequent governments in free India have deliberately not reformed. This movie was released in an era when not many elite people wanted to visit the cinema halls and instead preferred viewing on the video, at home. The movie did not do well at the box office as it wasn't well conceived by the masses. To me, it is the best Sunny movie ever. Rahul Rawail at his best as the movie did succeed in stirring the souls of the viewers who understood it.

The genius of RD Burman is again on display in not just the songs composed but also the background score. All in all, a must for one's personal library.

Best movie based on dacoit till date in bollywood
asadjouravi30 March 2022
Cinematography is awesome, as the movie was suited in Ater tehsil of Bhind district of Madhya Pradesh. It clearly depicts the reason behind evolution of dacoits in chambal valley. Opression of common people and farmers along with very poor law & order, the two primary cause behind generation of such dacoits, which were called as Baghis (Rebel) by public.

Acting of Late Rakhi ji made me cry several times. I think this movie was too much underrated.
