Pulp Fiction, Turkish style

Warning: Spoilers
This successful Turkish attempt at emulating Tarantino's PULP FICTION is a pacy, stylish thriller with plenty of strong violence and a volatile atmosphere to recommend it. An appealing cast goes through the story of Mafia violence, betrayal, and lots and lots of bloodshed, as a number of gangsters are bumped off by both each other and a gorgeous female assassin who has her own hidden agenda. MIXED PIZZA copies very closely various elements of Tarantino's film, from the smartly-dressed gangsters to the two-handed shooting and even the intricate framework of the story, with much of the action being told in flashback. The action is kept minimal but includes a fantastic chase through the streets of Istanbul and a hair-raising climb along the ledge of a building.

The main character in the story is a young, naïve pizza boy, who spends almost the entire movie strapped down to a chair whilst the events unfold in front of him (and us). Other central characters include a highly attractive Turkish lady, around whose character the whole film is based, and a long-haired gangster who is a direct representation of John Travolta's hit-man in PULP FICTION, right down to the dress sense and the attitude. The film offers plenty of bloody violence in the form of shootings galore and any Tarantino fan is likely to enjoy this foreign offering, what with its strong acting and excellent photography.
