The beloved children's character is returning in a Bob the Builder movie, and there are already many exciting updates about the upcoming animated feature. Debuting in 1999 in the UK, Bob the Builder follows the titular construction worker as he teams up with his anthropomorphized equipment to teach youngsters crucial problem-solving skills. With the familiar catchphrase "Can we fix it? Yes we can!", Bob and friends didn't take long to make their way across the pond, becoming one of the most famous children's programs of the new millennium.
Across its lengthy original run, and continued in a slew of spinoffs, TV movies, and reboots, the popularity of Bob the Builder hasn't waned, and it is still a viable franchise. Though the 2015 CGI reboot was met with some criticism for its stark departure from the original, it still managed to run for three seasons before eventually ending. The property was sold to...

Bob the Builder is heading to the big screen, courtesy of Amazon and Jennifer Lopez, here are the details.
We can’t be the only ones who never expected to type the words Bob The Builder and Jennifer Lopez in the same sentence, but here we are.
Background first. Bob The Builder began life as an animated television series, created by Keith Chapman in 1990 – Chapman went on to create the hugely successful Paw Patrol. Men Behaving Badly star Neil Morrissey voiced the titular character for a whopping eighteen series between 1999 and 2011. It followed the jovial Bob and his anthropomorphic building manchines as they solved construction problems around the villiage.
Can We Fix It?, the show’s earworm of a theme song written by Paul K. Joyce, even made its way to the top of the charts, beating Westlife’s What Makes A Man to Christmas number one in 2000.

Si se puede! Amazon MGM Studios is ready to strap on its tool belt after winning a bidding war for Mattel’s animated Bob the Builder movie! While the ink has yet to dry, we hear Amazon beat Dreamworks Animation and others looking to lay the foundation of an ambitious rework of Bob, the beloved general contractor with a passion for construction and learning. The Bob the Builder movie hails from Jennifer Lopez’s production studio, Nuyorican Productions, and ShadowMachine, the animation house behind Guillermo Del Toro’s Pinocchio, Tuca & Bertie, Moral Orel, Robot Chicken, and more.
The project reimagines Bob the Builder with Anthony Ramos in the lead role. Bob’s latest adventure is set in Puerto Rico. The story celebrates the resilience and spirit of Latino culture, and the new setting offers much to Bob’s outreach and influence.

Exclusive: Sources are telling us that Amazon MGM Studios has won the bidding war for Mattel’s animated feature Bob the Builder which had Netflix, DreamWorks Animation and others vying for the project. Not all deals are complete, I understand.
Bob the Builder is being produced by Jennifer Lopez‘s Nuyorican Productions and ShadowMachine (who were behind Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio) and it stars Twisters actor Anthony Ramos in the title role. It was Ramos’ idea to deliver a Bob the Builder set in Puerto Rico, in a story that’s about the resilience of the Latino culture. He is a producer on the film. Bob’s motto in Spanish: “Si se puede” aka “Yes we can.” Felipe Vargas is adapting. Tbd on whether the movie is for Prime or the big screen.
Lopez isn’t currently in talks for a voiceover role in Bob the Builder, I understand.

Hey, it worked for Barbie.
Mattel’s next feature film based on a doll will be a live-action, theatrical Monster High movie written and produced by Akiva Goldsman and distributed by Universal Pictures. The gist of the Monster High fashion-doll line is that they are the children of iconic monsters, like Frankie Stein (the daughter of Frankenstein’s monster and his bride), Draculaura (the daughter of Dracula), and Clawdeen Wolf (the daughter of a werewolf mom and a human dad).
Goldsman’s banner Weed Road will produce the film. Goldsman, the Academy Award-winning screenwriter of “A Beautiful Mind,” is also a producer on Mattel Films’ upcoming Major Matt Mason movie starring Tom Hanks. The announcement of that toy adaptation, which is set up at Paramount Pictures, preceded “Barbie.”
Kevin McKeon and Arturo Thur De Koos will oversee the Monster High movie for Mattel; Greg Lessans has oversight for Weed Road.

Oscar-winning writer-producer Akiva Goldsman and his Weed Road are partnering with Mattel, Inc. and Universal Pictures to develop a live-action theatrical Monsters High film, based on the multimedia franchise of the same name.
We’re told that Goldsman is only producing, not writing, so the assignment remains open for now.
First introduced via a line of dolls in 2010, Monster High centers around a fictional high school attended by the teenage children of famous monsters. These characters, such as Draculaura (daughter of Dracula), Frankie Stein (daughter of Frankenstein’s monster), Clawdeen Wolf (daughter of the Werewolf) and Cleo de Nile (daughter of the Mummy), are designed to reflect the diverse and unique offspring of classic monster figures. Each brings their own personality, style, and background to the Monster High universe, creating a rich tapestry of monster heritage and high school drama.

Last summer, Stereotypical Barbie admitted on the dance floor that sometimes she thinks about dying, and in part because of her brutal, relatable honesty, "Barbie" was the biggest hit of the year. Now, Bob the Builder is apparently set to endure the toy company Mattel's next on-screen existential crisis, as star Anthony Ramos says that the movie will follow a version of Bob who has "kind of lost his sense of what it is, to build," per Total Film.
"In the Heights" and "Transformers: Rise of the Beasts" star Ramos spoke to Total Film for the magazine's latest print issue, in which he tried to explain the weirdly emotionally complex plot of the upcoming "Bob the Builder" film. The movie was previously described by The Guardian as being about Bob traveling to Puerto Rico, where he "takes on issues affecting the island and digs deeper into what it means to build.

ITV has announced the planned closure of its children’s channel Citv.
The channel was launched in 2006 after the success of the Children’s ITV programming block, which launched on ITV in 1983 to provide dedicated late-afternoon programming for children aged between five and 13.
On Friday (10 March), the broadcaster announced that the Citv channel is set to close in the early autumn, after the launch of a new “dedicated destination for kids” on its streaming service Itvx.
The new service, Itvx Kids, is due to launch in July 2023. It will be rolled out during the UK school summer holiday period, with a range of titles aimed at both school-age and preschool children.
Itvx launched in December last year to replace the ITV Hub brand as the online home of all ITV content, as the broadcaster attempts to compete with streaming giants such as Netflix and Amazon.

The Canadian company is also handling global distribution and licensing outside of Greater China.

You can just tell that Oprah Winfrey’s CBS interview of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry has Buckingham Palace shook. On Monday, Stephen Colbert’s cold open saw Queen Elizabeth II attempt to enlist the British “Bob the Builder” gang to “fix” the British monarchy.
Good luck with that, chap. Gonna need some much, much different tools than what you’ve got in that belt.
“I have a special project for you today,” the superimposed Queen Elizabeth II says to Bob in the masterfully edited footage from the kids’ stop motion series. “The British monarchy: can you fix it?”
“Uhhh, fix what?” Bob asks.
“You know: fix the systemic racism, the nepotism, the inbreeding and, let’s say, Andrew,” her majesty replies. “Bob, can you fix it?”
Bob punted that loaded question to his team of heavy-load machinery. No one seemed confident in tackling the enormous task.

Even if parents are going batty trying to keep their little ones entertained while cooped up at home during this pandemic, they’re not necessarily plunking the kids in front of the TV — not linear TV at least. Meanwhile, certain streaming services are seeing a lift in interest, underscoring the next generation’s shift in television viewing habits.
For the week of March 23-29, viewership of ad-supported kids’ linear cable networks — a group that includes Cartoon Network, Nickelodeon, Disney Xd and others — slid 3% from the comparable week in March 2019, according to Bernstein research analysts, citing Nielsen figures. And that year-over-year decline actually marks a major improvement: prior to shelter-in-place measures being implemented, weekly viewership of those channels among 2- to 11-year-olds had been plummeting an average of 25% since the start of 2020.

When the first teaser trailer for Netflix's upcoming anime series Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045 arrived last fall, viewers were quick to downvote it based purely on visuals. That upvote/downvote ratio more or less evened out over the last few months, but now a new official trailer for the anime series is here, and fans are riled up all over again. The company’s Universal Kids will place a bigger bet on its ties to DreamWorks Animation, which NBCU bought in August of 2016 for approximately $3.8 billion. The network will stop developing original shows that are not based on DreamWorks properties, according to a person familiar with the matter, though it will continue to acquire series made by third-party producers.
The move takes place amid declining ratings and an executive restructure that has the network’s operations reporting directly to Frances Berwick, the executive who oversees NBCU’s lifestyle-based cable networks, including Bravo and Oxygen. Deirdre Brennan, the former general manager of Universal Kids, left in February. Universal Kids has been the primary vehicle NBCU hoped to ride to get into the multi-billion dollar market for kids entertainment, jockeying with rivals like Walt Disney, Viacom’s Nickelodeon and WarnerMedia’s Cartoon Network.

Bob the Builder is back and you can see the new-look character in action below.
A new trailer for the revamped series has been unveiled ahead of its premiere on Channel 5.
The new-look Bob was unveiled towards the end of 2014, and fans of the show - as well as original star Neil Morrissey - voiced their disapproval on Twitter.
The handyman and his friends, who made their first appearance on CBeebies, have been given a makeover and 'digified', losing their stop-motion look.
Channel 5 has signed an agreement with producer Hit Entertainment for 104 new 11-minute episodes, with Harry Potter star Lee Ingleby replacing Morrissey as Bob.
Downton Abbey's Joanne Froggatt and The Inbetweeners star Blake Harrison are also lending their talents to the show.
Bob the Builder will return to screens later this year. Can he still fix it? We'll have to wait and see.

The first image of the brand new Tracy brothers from the upcoming Thunderbirds reboot was released earlier today (January 15).
As it turned out, the reaction was less than Fab, with many fans of the original series sharing their views on Twitter. Boyband comparisons and terrifying death stares are among the most noted complaints so far.
Here are just a few reactions from Gerry Anderson fans old and new:
It's called Thunderbirds, not Thunderblokes

So, the new #Thunderbirds are basically One Direction as Power Rangers? http://t.co/z9MjEBqfFe pic.twitter.com/ihIxvXBbqX
— Christopher Allen (@chris_allen) January 15, 2015
And I thought that Busted song was the biggest insult to Thunderbirds. These new Tracy Brothers make me want to vomit.

As creepy as they are, the new CGI Thunderbirds somehow look even more human than most of the Tory frontbench. pic.

There are many upsides and downsides to the growing world of streaming movies, but easily one of the most frustrating is the lack of permanence that exists in the system. There are thousands of great movies available to watch, but because of the way contracts are structured they can be online one day and gone the next. Case in point: Netflix is losing a ton of great titles as soon as the calendar switches from October to November. The blog Now Streaming has compiled a list of all movies and shows that will be getting removed from Netflix on November 1st. A good number of the titles are things that adult cinefiles probably don't care too much about, such as various Barney, Bob The Builder, and Thomas & Friends movies, but there are some bonafide classics and Oscar winners that will no longer be available to subscribers.
