The cast of the Stefan Ruzowitzky-directed thriller Ice Fall expands with Danny Huston (Wonder Woman), Graham Greene, Martin Sensmeier (Yellowstone), Oliver Trevena, and DeVaughn Nixon (Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty) joining Joel Kinnaman and Cara Jade Myers for a race against time to recover millions.
Ruzowitzky directs Ice Fall from a script by George Mahaffey, with cameras rolling in Bulgaria. Milla Jovovich returns to the genre she knows so well with World Breaker. She stars opposite Luke Evans from Fast & Furious 6 and Dracula Untold. Brad Anderson is in the director’s chair for this science-fiction film. Anderson is known for such bleak projects as Session 9, The Machinist (which famously had Christian Bale lose a scary amount of weight prior to playing Batman) and Transsiberian. He has been dabbling in TV over the recent years, having directing for shows like Titans, The Man in the High Castle and Peacemaker.
The synopsis for World Breaker, according to Deadline, reads,
“Five years ago, a tear in the fabric of reality brought creatures to our world from an alternate dimension bent on our destruction. A father hides his daughter on an island to keep her safe while he prepares her for survival and the battles to come. But when the world is about to break,...

So what happens when your first anthology was cancelled but you’ve got round three on the back burner? Well, actually, it’s complicated. We’ve spoken previously about Mick Garris’ Masters of Horror, which brought life into the anthology genre when we needed it again. A year later, Fear Itself brings anthology horror back to primetime.
Now, if you’re me, anthologies are kind of your life. This is one of my favorite parts of Horror, and so being able to see what new takes and tales are on the horizon excites me. George A. Romero, horror legend and father of the modern zombie movie, passed away in 2017. At the time of his death, he was developing the next installment in his "Dead" series: a film called "Twilight of the Dead," for which he had written a treatment with journalist and film critic Paolo Zelati. In 2021, we learned that "Twilight of the Dead" was in active development, with Romero's widow, Suzanne Romero, meeting with filmmakers to find the right director for what is being billed as George Romero's "final zombie movie."
Now, the filmmaker who will take on that daunting duty has been found. Per The Hollywood Reporter, Brad Anderson will direct the movie from a script co-written by Zelati, Joe Knetter, and Robert Lucas. Anderson's previous directing credits are primarily horror movies and psychological thrillers, with his best-known work being a combination of the two genres: "Session 9," a...

Back in 2021, it was revealed that the legendary George A. Romero (who passed away in 2017) had left behind a treatment for the “seventh and final installment” in his Dead franchise – following Night of the Living Dead, Dawn of the Dead, Day of the Dead, Land of the Dead, Diary of the Dead, and Survival of the Dead. The story Romero had come up with used a title than many fans expected him to use for his follow-up to Day, Twilight of the Dead, and the team of Joe Knetter, Robert Lucas, and Paolo Zelati, who also worked on the treatment with Romero, were working on fleshing it out into a screenplay. Last month, we heard that Twilight of the Dead had secured funding from Roundtable Entertainment. And now we know who’s going to direct the film: Session 9 director Brad Anderson!

Before he passed away in 2017, horror master George A. Romero had been developing one final zombie movie titled Twilight of the Dead, which has shown brief signs of life here and there over the years. The film is finally coming to life, The Hollywood Reporter lets us know this morning, with Brad Anderson on board to direct!
“Shooting is expected to start later this year,” THR notes in their exclusive report.
“George Romero’s 1968 classic Night of the Living Dead may have been the first real horror movie I ever saw and its shock value, its keen social relevance, and even the means by which it was made were all hugely inspirational to me,” said Anderson. “This too is a zombie movie in which limbs fly and heads roll, but one that is also about social transformation, one that asks the question: What is it to be human? Genre films have often utilized the depiction of vampirism as a powerful metaphor for addiction, as seen in films like The Hunger (1983), The Addiction (19995), and Habit (1997). More recently, My Heart Can’t Beat Unless You Tell It To (2020) used vampirism as a potent allegory not only for addiction, but also for people living with chronic illness and the toll it takes on their caregivers. In his new film Blood, written by Will Honley (Bloodline), director Brad Anderson adeptly blends motherhood, vampirism, and chronic illness, emphasized by the need for blood, to present a compelling story of a family torn apart.
Blood stars Michelle Monaghan as Jess, a caring nurse and mother, who is also a recovering addict going through a nasty divorce and a battle for custody of her children. Jess’ ex-husband, played by Skeet Ulrich, got the house, the babysitter, and a new baby, and is using Jess’ previous struggles...

Last week, we shared a clip from Session 9 (watch it Here) director Brad Anderson’s new horror film Blood that showed characters played by Michelle Monaghan (Kiss Kiss Bang Bang) and Finlay Wojtak-Hissong (The Banana Splits Movie) getting attacked by a vicious dog. You can watch the clip in the embed at the bottom of this article.
Scripted by Will Honley, Blood sees Monaghan taking on the role of Jess, a nurse and mother recently separated from her husband, who moves with her daughter Tyler and young son Owen back into her old farmhouse. Vampirism has been treated as a metaphor for more prosaic addictions in movies before. In “Blood,” however, it’s one more hassle a recovering addict doesn’t need added to the burdens of her already discordant family life. Starring Michelle Monaghan as a mother just out of rehab whose young son gets bitten — then develops an insatiable appetite for the titular fluid — Brad Anderson’s film steers a middle course between dysfunctional domestic drama and supernatural horror. That balance doesn’t completely work. But solid performances and some strong, occasionally unpleasant content make this an involving if not entirely satisfying watch. Vertical Entertainment is releasing it to limited U.S. theaters this Friday, then On Demand platforms Jan. 31.

After The Blair Witch Project came along in 1999, it feels like the independent horror boom of the 2000s was almost a direct result of that film’s success. Throughout this decade, we saw so many writers, directors, and other industry creatives get the opportunity to establish themselves and chart their course in Hollywood, and so many of those folks are still continuing to have a huge impact on what’s going on in the genre world these days as well.

The latest limited series from Netflix looks to be drawing on a lot of topics seen swirling around social media, from bad men to internet conspiracy theories. Basedon the first trailer, which you can see below, “Clickbait” aims to be an edgy look at the ways we examine people and the simmering secrets that lie underneath.
The series tells the story of Nick Brewer (Adrien Grenier) who one day disappears. As his wife (Betty Gabriel) and sister (Zoe Kazan) start looking for him, a livestream pops up showing Nick holding signs alleging he’s beaten and murdered women. When the videos hit five million views Nick will die. Are the allegations true? Do they prove the seemingly perfect family man has something to hide? Or is this part of a twisted game by the kidnapper to illustrate the danger within society’s snap judgements?

Location can make a huge difference to the impact of a film—especially when that film is being made on a tight budget and doesn’t have the luxury of massive studio backing that brings construction, unlimited options for set decoration, and the like. A thoughtful location can make a huge impact on the overall tone of a film. Case in point: Session 9. Filmed onsite at the abandoned Danvers State Hospital, Brad Anderson’s film benefited greatly from the chosen location—not just because filming onsite at the hospital provided a cheap way of giving them a filming location, but because of the atmosphere it contributed to the finished product. Danvers is as much a character in that film as any of the others. Had this been filmed on a soundstage, it still would have been a great story, but using the actual hospital gave the production an authenticity and...

It’s a sad state of affairs that once Halloween is over and done with, major streaming platforms suddenly become far less interested in maintaining a library of horror movies. In keeping with this, several of Netflix’s genre titles will be leaving the site throughout December, so be sure to catch them while you still can.
The Autopsy of Jane Doe is one such film that’s set to depart (on the 29th) and is one of the better examples of pics featured under the “The [spooky noun] of [woman’s full name]” titling convention, following father and son pathologists attempting to ascertain the cause of death of an unidentified young woman, only for increasingly bizarre discoveries and occurrences to gradually reveal something supernatural at work.
Cape Fear, meanwhile, is also leaving (on the 31st) and is Martin Scorsese’s 1991 remake of the 1962 thriller of the same name, where a psychopath is released after being...

We all like a good scare every now and then, and Netflix has been more than competent in providing them. Decider has compiled a list of the streaming service’s 25 scariest horror movies and although a cursory glance at the rundown will quickly reveal that it’s not entirely populated by horror films, each entry has something terrifying about it to mark it as worthy of inclusion.
One of the highlights on Decider’s list is, undoubtedly, Pan’s Labyrinth, which many would say is Guillermo del Toro’s masterpiece. It follows Ofelia, a young girl living in the early days of Franco’s Spain, who attempts to escape from her misery by exploring the subterranean labyrinth beneath the rural home of her new stepfather, where she encounters a faun who believes her to be the reincarnation of a lost princess and sets her three tasks to prove her identity.

You know the drill at this point. The coronavirus has shut down production and distribution of original content worldwide, which includes those that are financed by Netflix. Fortunately for the streamer, however, its business model allows the company to scavenge all of entertainment history for undiscovered gems and present them to the quarantined masses. In fact, quite a few interesting titles hit the platform this week, and here’s the best of what arrived over the past few days.
First up we got The Lincoln Lawyer. This 2011 crime thriller, directed by Brad Furman and starring Matthew McConaughey, follows a lawyer who unknowingly takes on a client who not only committed the crime of which he’s been accused of, but also bears responsibility for a multitude of other horrific acts. Though critics didn’t exactly shower it with love, it’s widely regarded as the project which kicked off the McConaissance,...

Netflix is great for hot new original content. Indeed, the streaming site invests a fortune into producing their own movies and TV shows and most of the time, they knock it out of the park, with many Netflix titles going on to become global sensations. But the platform is also great for discovering hidden gems, with tons of licensed content getting another chance in the spotlight.
Almost every day, the company adds older movies and TV shows that may’ve been overlooked in the past, with Netflix now giving them a chance to find a new audience. And while not everything they add is worth a watch, most of the time they manage to dig up some real underrated titles and give them a second life. Another month is now about to come to an end and that means we can all look forward to tons of fresh content coming to Netflix. Indeed, this week alone will see over 30 new movies added to the platform, many of which are big, notable titles.
But that doesn’t mean today is devoid of new material and to close out the month, the streaming site has brought us two new films to check out. Neither are terribly high profile, mind you, but at least one of them is worth a watch for horror fans, as it’s an underrated entry into the genre that may’ve passed you by when it first released.
See below for the full list of what arrived today, May 31st:

If you want to talk about one of the more maligned and somehow popularized actors in Hollywood then David Caruso probably comes in pretty high on the list since the retired actor, yes he is retired, wasn’t exactly one of the biggest or most well-respected names in show business. Some people liked him, that’s pretty evident, but he wasn’t the type to put butts in seats, especially in the movie theater, as Brian Boone of Looper reminds us. Movies like Jade, Session 9, and a few others, like the aptly named Kiss of Death, were commercial flops that only a

Looking for a mix of known and lesser-known horror films to try? Here's a bunch of suggestions...
Low-budget or independent horror films are nothing new, but they’ve experienced a mini-resurgence in recent years. The trouble is, many of the best and most interesting examples are extremely difficult to find, and even the most discerning horror fans are left scrambling for what to watch. To help, then, here’s a list of some of the genre’s undiscovered gems you’re perhaps yet to discover.
Discovering Bigfoot
A deep dive into the legendary mythical (or not?) creature, Discovering Bigfoot is the first full-length documentary to allegedly capture real live footage of wilderness experts and professors - including the renowned Dr Jeff Meldrum - interacting with the elusive Bigfoot. The film follows the brave researchers as they explore Sasquatch Country, discovering along the way that what we...

It was a busy year for me at the 2017 SXSW Film Festival, as I had the opportunity to watch 16 films (17, including the 10th anniversary screening of Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon). Here are my thoughts on the final three films that I had a chance to see while in Austin: Like Me, Game of Death, and The Honor Farm.
Like Me: I had absolutely no idea what to expect from first-time director Robert Mockler’s Like Me, but after seeing what he could do with his cautionary tale about the dangers of social media obsession, and how it can affect those unable to cope with the isolation it often leads to, I’m an instant fan of Mockler. Like Me ended up being the most unpredictably wonderful movie-going experience I had during all of SXSW 2017.

This time, the film was shot in one of the largest institutions, the Eloise Insane Asylum. How’s this for a pairing? Nicolai Fuglsig has lined found two leads in Michael Shannon and Chris Hemsworth for his directorial debut, Deadline reports. Jerry Bruckheimer and Black Label Media will produce the film, which is titled Horse Soldiers. Based on a true story and adapted by Peter Craig and Ted Tally from a book penned by Dough Staton, Horse Soldiers follows a U.S. special forces team sent to Afghanistan in the wake of 9/11, led by a captain untested in the field. The team was tasked with joining forces with a local Warload to drive out the Taliban, an effort that proved much harder than anticipated. Bruckheimer stated his excitement over the project, saying “I am so happy that we’re finally getting this great project off the ground with wonderful leading actors, Chris Hemsworth and Michael Shannon. Brad Anderson (Session 9) has a new film project lined up called Fate, which he will direct from a script by Gary Whitta (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story).
According to Deadline, the story follows a character named Virgil who is described as "a man on the edge, all too familiar with the back alleys of Hong Kong." They go on to reveal that, "His life, or what’s left of it, is turned upside down when he is approached by a mysterious woman seeking his help. "
That's all we have to share about the film so far, and the story could go in any direction from there. I'm a fan of Anderson. He really impressed me with his psychological horror thriller Session 9, and since then he's made films such as The Machinist, Transsiberian, The Call, and Stonehearst Asylum.
I really hope that this next film of his is good.

St. Patrick's Day is upon us, thus we lift a glass and consider what are the best Irish films to cheers to on such an auspicious day.
Spring is in the air, and it’s that time of year when we can enjoy a pint and a shot of Tullamore Dew on the patio (or while watching our favorite Irish movie).
In honor of St. Patrick’s Day, we have compiled a list of the 10 best Irish films to raise your glass to on the 17th. Cheers!
10. Gangs of New York (2002)
Okay, so we’re cheating a little bit with the first one on this list, but Martin Scorsese’s Gangs of New York is his first partnership with the now Oscar winning Leonardo DiCaprio. The two have become a fruitful cinematic duo, a combination for which we moviegoers are grateful for (hello The Departed and The Wolf of Wall Street...

Be Afraid of the Dark: Rockaway’s Familiar Debut Enhanced by Atmospheric Locale
Director Eytan Rockaway makes his directorial debut with the claustrophobic single set horror film The Abandoned (initially titled The Confines). Apart from its undistinguished title already being similar to a 2002 Katie Holmes flick and a 2006 Nacho Cerda thriller, Rockaway adapts from a story co-written by Ido Fluk, a narrative determined exclusively by its impressive venue, a discarded luxury apartment house complex. Though the film features uncustomarily polished performances for an indie horror feature from its two known lead performers, their energy only lasts so long in yet another dwindling account of wayward supernatural forces terrorizing protagonists for vague, unexplained reasons until its final, elucidating frames.
Streak (Louisa Krouse) is an emotionally frayed young woman desperate to keep her life together. Struggling to keep custody of her daughter, she flings herself into an employment opportunity which involves taking...

Director: Pål Øie. Writers: Kjersti Helen Rasmussen and Pål Øie. Cast: Anders Baasmo Christiansen, Baard Owe, Mads Sjøgård Pettersen and Ellen Dorrit Petersen. Norway continues to develop a frightening horror scene. From the Fritt Vilt slasher series to Død snø (2009), this cold country has lots of scary tales to tell. The latest is titled Villmark 2. Shot twelve years after the first film, this time a crew of workers are tasked with identifying toxic materials in an ancient asylum. Very reminiscent of Session 9 (2001) and definitely an homage, Villmark 2 is very slow in its build up of tension. However, into the third act, events take a brutal turn as the film's World War II mythology comes to the forefront. Sound design and production values are high. But, Villmark 2 fails to find its own original story and direction, which makes a viewing of this film very predictable and slightly unexciting.
