cute videos, but writing that is atrocious
livings142 August 2007
I actually find myself watching this show and unable to turn it off, sort of like how you can't help looking at a car wreck. The videos are often cute, but the writing is so bad it is downright strange. The jokes don't make sense. Its like nothing I've ever seen...the jokes are so bad that they are weird. I don't think they are intentionally bad, like the jokes on AFHV. It's almost like a sixth grader wrote the jokes. A humorless, stupid sixth grader. I wish I could sit in on this show being made. what does the producer say when he reads the script? Do they just not care? Do the demographics for this show indicate that the audience is 6 yo? But the humor seems inappropriate for children of that age. Is the audience really stupid? Really, it's so bad that I want an explanation.

The animals may be funny, but the show isn't.
Apple-211 January 2005
The point of this program seems to be to film an animal doing, you know, something that an animal does, like roll around in the dirt and smell things, and dub over it with a very unfunny, often strange commentary. I find myself sitting in front of the TV, listening intently for an eventual punchline and being ultimately disappointed and perplexed. At least Bob Saget's bad jokes made sense.

Additionally I'm convinced that the host is in fact our first undercover android TV personality.

But I still watch it. I'm an animal lover and its only competition at 6am is infomercials and stock market reports.

BEST animal show ever
nakived5 December 2020
When this was on, with Matt Gallant as the host, the show was the best. When Matt left, it became eh because the host just did not have it. What is on right now is "world's funniest animals" with "comedians" and well, THEY are NOT funny at all, the host is sweetly sickening and there is not enough with the animals. What Matt Gallant had was something special and nobody since has equaled it.

I have no idea why Animal Planet didn't stick with the show or get some better host, like Gallant.

Are they blind, dead or drunk?
sciphii10 February 2010
I honestly cannot stand this show. It showcases animals doing crazy stunts and exhibiting strange behaviors, backed up by corny puns by that cheesy host. Some clips are amusing, such as that monkey yearning a little girl to continue scratching him or that donkey who spit at an innocent family inside a car through an open window, but the majority involve a dog spinning around in circles or a cat falling off of a washing machine. Pretty much any animal doing something mundane and just plain dorky is slapped with the label "humorous". I recall a show from way back called "Animal Kidding" on Animal Planet that was hosted by Mario Lopez and was genuinely entertaining. Although the theme tune of Planet's Funniest Animals was sort of cute, it was probably the only thing that was actually heard by those editors and producers.

Loved watching this show as a kid!
andyleal-362003 December 2020
I loved watching this show as a kid, Matt Gallant was an awesome host! and i used to think Rider Strong from Boy Meets World hosted the show cause in my opinion, Gallant's voice kinda sounded just like his almost. But anyways, this and America's Funniest Home Videos were my favorites growing up!

Voice-overs ruin the humor!
meloda19 July 2003
Personally, I like this show. The videos sent in are funny, but just like the other "funniest" shows, the stupid voice-over jokes in the background take all the humor out of it. In order to enjoy the show, I have to mute the TV just to find them funny! When I do that, they are humorous. Unlike America's Funniest Home Videos, the videos sent in are cute/funny and done well. They rarely show dumb clips of people/animals getting hurt, and therefore they are funny. But AGAIN, they should "de-voice" that Matt guy who does the corny joke voice-overs, as his dumb jokes take all the fun out of the good videos. If it weren't for him, I would give this show an A. BUT, for now I have to give it a C-, and him an FFF! I would say that 9/10 of the videos sent in are funny and well done.

Please stop ITV from putting this crap on. Its just shocking. They put it on on a Saturday morning when theres nothing to watch. It is typical of American TV - all canned laughter rubbish. The host is appalling and the videos barely raise a smile. Someone needs to be punished for letting this show be screened!

FOR ANIMAL LOVERS

This is a great show for those who regard their pets as members of their family. Each individual clip is cute and provides for simple, lighthearted, and fun family entertainment. I enjoy this series very much.

Possibly the stupidest show ever
Squall113830 June 2002
In an attempt to get the kind of success that America's Funniest Videos got, the producers of this awful show decided to take all the BAD things about AFV and amplify them about 100 times. First off, the host is incredibly annoying. He says the STUPIDEST jokes in the world and talks all throughout the videos and the "audience" (which is obviously a laughtrack because you never see them and no one who is sane would laugh at this) just LAUGHS like it's the funniest thing in the world. The videos, for the most part, are stupid. A few of them are funny, and you might laugh at some, but at no time will you EVER laugh at the host. To make it worse, right before you go to a commercial break, you're bombarded with a barrage of puns which will make you want to rip your ears off. Meanwhile, the "audience" laughs at each pun like it's sooo funny. And the letters that they receive are so obviously written by their staff, because of their sheer idocy and coincidently leads right up to a clip. The only way to make this show as funny as it could be, is the just show the clips, and have NO HOST! The clips are fine by theirself, but the host just ruins it. Turn off the volume and watch for the best viewing possible.

Brings a smile to my face.

Say your in a bad mood and depressed and you love animals. This movie brings alot of smiles around. I could watch any marathon animal planet gives me. :) I'm surprised that no one at America's Funniest Home Video's had a hand in this. It's so them.

I don't give this a rating. It's a show. But as you can see, it seems to be a love/hate thing. Like AFHV, People for years dreamed of AFHV going off the air. 13-14 years later it's still kicking. and guess what. Funniest Home Video's is moving back to Sunday nights. ABC sure wants to push it. :)

Planets funniest animals is a great supplement.

Is it just me?
heweaver11 November 2003
It may just be me, but I find the host much less funny than the previous post. He almost makes me want to change the channel... I watch the show because I like animals and enjoy some of the things they do, but I would much rather mute it and play a CD than listen to some of the stuff that Matt says. I wonder if he makes some of it up on the fly, or if its all scripted for him? And either someone slipped a few venting tubes of laughing gas into the air vents, or some of that laughter has to be canned. :)

A great show with a great host!
SpookyMngo10 November 2001
What can I say? This is such a cute show! From what I've read at other sites, I am disappointed that some people don't like this show. It's very cute! They have Ani-mmercials, Ani-mail, Snout-takes...I love it! Also, I am a fan of the host, Matt Gallant. I don't care what people say, I think he does a good job hosting. Some of the jokes may not be funny, but hey!, that's what he's getting paid for. :) This is a great show for kids and adults that you can really laugh at. I highly recommend it. :)

Watch this, it's funny!!
rmfmt1 April 2002
Besides being an animal lover, I am a comedy junkie. I truly enjoy watching this show. It is refreshingly candid; very much unlike those video shows of seemingly "normal" people doing stupid things to get on T.V. Watch it at 11:00 pm instead of the news (too depressing!).
