Historical Mystery Subgenre?
At a popular resort during the Edo Period, a man is murdered. As everyone gossips about the matter and waits for the samurai in charge of the investigation to do something, honeymooning Hideko Takamine takes time out to solve the crime.
It's a pleasantly run mystery, about on par with some of the better American B series. The well known performers include Kazuo Hasegawa, Ureo Egawa (as the murder victim) and Reizaburô Yamamoto. I was interested in the question of whether this can be considered a historical mystery, a sub-genere that arguably had its roots in the Chinese 'Judge Dee' novels of the late 800s. However, except for some costuming and the means of murder -- arrows -- I think it's pretty much a standard mystery with a hotel setting.
I'd still like to see more of Miss Takamine as a detective.
