A young man (Sunny Deol) and woman (Amrita Singh) fall in love, but face obstacles from their families.

Sunny owns a small livestock farm and lives a poor but happy life style with his mother, Sumitra. They wanted the farm to become up to date, so Sumitra decides to make a move abroad in order to bring new equipments for the farm, leaving Sunny in the care of the farm. One day while distributing eggs and chickens, Sunny reaches up with Roma Singh and both can get into the pettiest quarrels and they soon begins to fight and Sunny offers Roma to rebuild his farm house as a part of her punishment. Both soon realize that they are childhood lovers and attempts to rebuild that love once again, both are successful in doing so and plans to get married but there love is opposed by Roma's dad, the wealthy and famous businessman, Sardar Dinesh Singh Girji, who will do anything in his power to prevent Roma and Sunny from meeting leave alone marriage.—gavin (gunmasterM@hotmail.com)

Sunny lives with his mother, Sumitra, in a small town. They also own a farm-house with a poultry business, and would like to re-locate there. Sunny decides to head out first, ensure that the place is livable and invite his mother. Upon arrival Sunny finds the place in a mess and decides to clean up and re-build. His efforts are frustrated largely due to the presence of a young woman named Roma. In order to apologize, Roma agrees to assist him, with comically disastrous results. Then they find out that they have known each other since childhood and are overjoyed and fall in love with each other. Problems arise for them when Sumitra and her Roma's dad, Sardar Dinesh Singh Girji, dislike each other and are both opposed to any marriage between the two families. There children, Sunny and Roma alias Dinky are close to each other and aspire to get married when they are older. However, things does not seem to fall into place and Avinash became bankrupt and as a result loses all his assets, this leads to suicide leaving Sunny and Sumintra alone. This film is a love story of two youngsters who fall in love despite the status gaps between their families. Sunny (Sunny Deol) is a young, poor and happy guy who lives with his mother Sumitra (Nirupa Roy) in his home-made town farm in Tikamgarh, breeding and training horses. Formerly, His father Avenash had been a big businessman, but he went bankrupt. For this reason, he committed suicide. Now the family earns a living by supplying fresh farm produce to city stores. Avenash was in close friends with Sardar Dinesh Singh Girji (Shammi Kapoor) who is one of the richest and most powerful men in the city. When Sardar reveals that Avenash has gone bankrupt, he turns his back to him. Sardar has one daughter called Roma (Amrita Singh). She is spoiled, snobbish and accustomed to having all the people who surround her, beneath her. She was Sunny's childhood friend.

Now, Dinesh purchases a new horse farm out of the city in the town, which is nearby Sunny's farm. Balwant (Prem Chopra) is Dinesh's business partner in this venture. Balwant is secretly planning to assassinate Dinesh and Roma. He sends an assassin to the farm, masquerading as his son Yashwant. Yashwant plans to woo Roma. Roma falls in love with the photos of the new farm and decides to vacation in Tikamgarh with her friends. When Sunny accompanies his mother to the train station, he encounters Roma after many years they haven't seen each other. Sunny instantly recognizes her, but Roma doesn't. Roma's driver never arrived to pick her at the station, but she refuses to take a lift from Sunny as his car is a clunker. Sunny makes her walk 20 miles to her farm. But Sunny follows Roma and slowly all of her friends sit in his car. Eventually Roma gets tired and takes a lift from Sunny.

They coincidentally meet each other various times on the farm. Chela Ram (Annu Kapoor) is the caretaker of the farm. To avenge her insult Roma invites Sunny to her farm to train a wild horse that even 6 stable hands struggle to control. Despite several injuries, Sunny can control the wild beast. Roma goes sightseeing and again runs into Sunny. Sunny again runs into Roma on a small bridge (while she was returning from the station leaving her friends, whose father had a heart attack), when she is in a jeep and he is with his produce, going to the station. When Sunny refuses to back his car, and Roma rams it so that the entire fresh produce falls into the river. Sunny is livid and drives Roma off the road. When Roma tries to hit Sunny, he kisses her on the lips and walks away. Roma destroys Sunny's entire farm. Sunny captures Roma and forces her to rebuild his entire farm. To keep her family off the backs, he takes the jeep back to Roma's farm and informs them that Roma went back to the city with her friends.

They quarrel continually. But Roma has no choice but to share Sunny's food and shelter. She tries to escape but is bitten by a cobra. Sunny reaches in time and sucks the poison out and nurses her back to health. Roma is thankful to Sunny for saving her life and helps him rebuild his farm. Soon she comes to know that he is her childhood friend, and they reconstruct their childhood love. This is when Dinesh comes back and arrives at Sunny's farm. Roma tells Dinesh that Sunny rescued her from a cobra bite and Dinesh spares Sunny. Sunny tells his mother (who has come back from the city) that he has found his childhood friend and wants to marry her. But Dinesh is very class conscious and considers Sunny below his social class.

Meanwhile Balwant and Yashwant plot to snare Roma and use her to control Dinesh's wealth. Sumitra goes to Dinesh to ask for Roma's hand in marriage but is insulted and thrown out of his house. Meanwhile Roma and Sunny get stuck in a storm and spend the night in an abandoned glass house. the next morning Dinesh attacks with Balwant and Yashwant and takes Roma away. Meanwhile Yashwant beats Sunny mercilessly and leaves him to die. Sunny's dog helps in locating him and saves his life. Sunny attacks Dinesh at his house and tries to rescue Roma. Balwant steps in and tells Sunny to leave Roma and have faith in him. He promises to get Sunny and Roma married. Sunny retreats. Now Balwant sends Dinesh to pay off Sunny, while he arranges for Roma and Yashwant's wedding. Sunny refuses to surrender Roma's love for money, but Dinesh threatens Sumitra that if Sunny comes close to Roma, he will kill Sunny.

Meanwhile Roma sees the wedding cards and is aghast. Chela Ram helps her escape, and she reaches Sunny's farm, but Sumitra begs her to return to her dad for the sake of Sunny's life. Roma writes a letter to Sunny telling him that she will marry Yashwant. Sunny is heartbroken and Sumitra can't bear to see it this way. She admits the truth that she made Roma write that letter to Sunny. Sunny contacts Roma and she confirms her love for him. Sunny reaches Dinesh's bungalow and confronts Dinesh, who tries to shoot him. But Roma comes in front and says Dinesh will have to shoot both. Dinesh accepts his defeat and lets them both go. Now Balwant and Yashwant are in a fix, but Dinesh overhears their plotting and realizes their game-plan. Balwant imprisons Dinesh and attacks Sunny's farm where he abducts Sumitra and Roma. Sunny counter attacks and after a fierce battle, rescues Roma. But Balwant and Yashwant have them at gunpoint, which is when Dinesh arrives and shoots at them, saving the lovers. Balwant and Yashwant are handed over to the police.
