It’s quite rare for actors to grow up on screen, but Farida Jalal is one such actor who has portrayed an array of characters in the space of the hero’s sister, a mother, and now a grandmother.
While Hollywood has Leonardo DiCaprio, who started his career at the age of 17, India has Rishi Kapoor, Kamal Haasan, Sridevi, and Farida Jalal. All of their careers are textbooks in cinematic longevity.
Farida started her journey at 17 with the film ‘Taqdeer’, a role offered to her by Tarachand Barjatya, grandfather of Sooraj Barjatya. How she was offered her first role has a story of its own, something that rarely happens to artistes. She was a part of the United Film Producers Talent Hunt, which she went on to win, where her co-finalist happened to be the first superstar of Hindi cinema, Rajesh Khanna.

Mumbai, March 2: Bobby Deol was dubbed the Italian Stallion when he entered Bollywood, long mane adding to his dashing lover boy charm. Although his debut film Barsaat fared way below expectation in 1995, he had a few top hits in the early decade of his career, notably Gupt, Soldier, Baadal and Bichhoo.
Yet, what followed didn't make for a happy picture. Dharmendra's younger son and Sunny Deol's younger brother Bobby suddenly witnessed a drop in his career graph in the new millennium. Films stopped doing well, the offers started slowing down.
The actor says that it took him some time to accept the fact that he would have to settle for roles lesser than the lead.
"I used to be a big star once upon a time but things didn't work out. My market value went down. I went through a phase where I couldn't understand why this...

Bobby Deol completes 25 years in Bollywood and his elder brother, action star Sunny Deol, fondly recalls seeing him grow up in the film industry over the years.
Sunny Deol, who was already at the peak of superstardom in 1995 when Bobby took his Bollywood bow with Rajkumar Santoshi's "Barsaat", has been a steady voice of reason and guidance for his younger brother, in an industry where pitfalls and failure are as commonplace as glamour and fame.
"I always told him to be disciplined, get up early, be active and do workouts. Bob at that age was more into parties and stuff. I would discourage him from all that. He has grown up. Earlier, he used to be with me on shoot at times, my dad's shoot also. He had groomed himself," Sunny told Ians.

There have been instances in the past where Bollywood filmmakers have requested their fellow colleagues to give them a required film title, which they might have rights for. However, what Madhur has done is definitely a first. Madhur Bhandarkar, the new age realistic director, of late has been hunting for a single word title for his next film that stars Kareena Kapoor. And the title that he was looking at was Heroine. As luck would have it, the said title was already booked by Guddu Dhanoa, who has earlier made films like Deewana, Big Brother, Kismat, Bichhoo, Elaan etc. Madhur, instead of hitting upon a roadblock, hit upon a novel solution by deciding to donate Rs. 1 lakh to Guddu Dhanoa's charity and, thus became the owner of the title! Speaking to Bollywood Hungama, Madhur said, "It was really nice of Guddu to have given the title to me. But...

New Delhi, Bobby Deol plays a hired killer in his latest "Ek - The Power of One", nine years after he played a similar role in "Bichhoo". The actor says he has no problem playing a negative role again. "There were no apprehensions. Actors who play romantic heroes in most of the films don't get apprehensive before taking another such project; so why should I?" he said. Directed by Sangeeth Sivan, "Ek" is a remake of Telugu film "Athadu" and also stars southern star Shriya Saran. "Though I also did such a role in 'Bichhoo', this one is a far more stylised version of a professional killer. In fact I was very excited when I saw the southern version of 'Ek' and said yes to the role," Bobby told Ians over phone from Mumbai. Known for his action ...

Are you a 19-20 year old girl (or at least look like one)? Know a thing or two about Bollywood? Want to make it big in the tinsel world? And believe that making a debut opposite Adhyayan Suman would be quite cool? Well, then here is an opportunity coming your way. Director Guddu Dhanoa, who has made a career out of making full on 'masala' action fare (Ziddi, Salakhein, Bichhoo, Elaan), is now changing tracks and making an out and out romantic love story. For this movie which stars Adhyayan Suman in the lead, he is scouting for a girl who fits the aforementioned criteria. "For my next film Deewana Must Die, I am in lookout of a completely fresh face. I don't want someone who has already acted in a film", says Guddu Dhanoa whose last film was action packed Big Brother that featured Sunny Deol in the lead.
