The death of Queen Elizabeth II prompted the Claire Foy-led first season of “The Crown” to crack the Netflix Top 10 last week.
Per Netflix, “Hrh Queen Elizabeth II was in the hearts and minds of viewers” as Season 1 of the streamer’s Royal Family drama was watched for 17.6 million hours between Sept. 5-11. That put it in the No. 7 spot for English-language TV series.
Meanwhile, the fifth season of “Cobra Kai” easily took the No. 1 slot on that list with 106 million hours viewed in the first three days post-Friday launch. In second place was limited series “Devil in Ohio,” which had 70.8 million hours viewed, followed by the first season of “The Imperfects” with 24.1 million.
Rounding out the rest of the Top 10 list were “Dated and Related” Season 1 (19.8 million), “The Sandman” Season 1 (19.6 million), “Partner Track” (18.2 million), “The Crown” (17.6 million), “Stranger Things” Season 4 (16.6 million), limited series “Echoes” (14.3 million) and “Manifest” Season...

There’s a double-edged sword to being singled out as an awards frontrunner. Yes, it’s a positive sign when pundits consider you the top contender to score a top prize. But be identified as the top of the pack too early, and you’ve immediately been handed a target on your back as the one to beat.
So I suppose it’s a bit of an apology to Netflix’s “The Crown” and “The Queen’s Gambit,” as well as Apple TV Plus’ “Ted Lasso,” but we’re going to have to use that “f” word — frontrunner — right now. The three programs have already been early favorites to lead this year’s Emmy Awards in drama, limited series and comedy, respectively. And Sunday night’s SAG Awards wins for all three shows just solidified it.

Ever ask yourself, what if The Crown met reality TV... Well, wonder no more. In 1969, the BBC aired an infamous documentary called Royal Family that offered a rare, intimate look at the lives of Queen Elizabeth II, husband Prince Philip, and their children Prince Charles, Princess Anne, Prince Andrew and Prince Edward. The family had granted the network unique access to film their everyday lives, as at the time, they were seen as being out of touch with regular society, CNN said. But the queen reportedly later regretted the documentary and requested that it be locked in the BBC archives, The Independent reported. Royal Family, which was co-produced...

Spoiler Alert: Do not read ahead if you have not watched season four of “The Crown.”
The latest season of hit Netflix series “The Crown” is ruffling all sorts of feathers in the U.K. as the families of those depicted in the drama have begun speaking out about their portrayals.
After three seasons, the Peter Morgan-created show finally marks the arrival of Princess Diana as well as her troubled marriage to Prince Charles in season 4 — a chapter of the award-winning drama that Morgan deems “the first of the modern series.” As it inches closer to the current day, however, the show is also facing more intense scrutiny.
Lady Diana’s brother, Charles Spencer (also known as Earl Spencer), who has always been a fierce guardian of his sister’s legacy, is concerned that the general public will treat the series as fact and not a fictitious version of real-life events.

Britain's royal family has sparked outrage by declining to attend an anniversary of the World War II evacuations. No one from the royal family has yet agreed to go to a ceremony at St. Paul's Cathedral in London to mark the 70th anniversary of the mass evacuations - known as Operation Pied Piper - when war broke out.
Representatives for Queen Elizabeth and Prince Charles have declined invitations from the Evacuees Reunion Association.
Organizer James Roffey, of the Evacuees Reunion Association, told Britain's Daily Mail newspaper: "I wrote to the queen because there is such a special link with evacuees. Her first broadcast on the radio, when she was Princess Elizabeth, was to us in 1940."
"She told us all would be well in the end and finished by wishing us, 'Goodnight and good luck to you all'. I reminded her of that broadcast. I also wrote to Prince Charles and Clarence House.

Britain's Queen Elizabeth II is recovering from the sting of two thefts. In Scotland, half a million bees due to be transferred to the royal summer residence Balmoral were stolen from the royal beekeeper, who blames one of his professional rivals. Back in England, cattle rustlers stole 19 cows (representing about $25,000 in beef) from the farmer who rents 300 acres of the monarch's Sandringham Estate, in Norfolk. Then there is the story of the sticky fingered harpist who played at the wedding of Prince Charles and Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall. Jemima Phillips, the 27-year-old who was the appointed harpist to the Prince of Wales between 2004 and 2007, just plead guilty to three counts of burglary and one count of fraud by false representation. Queen Sofia of Spain certainly knows a steal when she sees it. The Spanish royal paid a mere $21.50 for her flight on budget airline Ryanair from Spain to London,...

Emily Blunt is worried the British royal family won't like her new film. Emily - who makes her debut in a lead role in the period drama, playing the title role of Queen Victoria in "The Young Victoria" - hopes the period drama will be well received in royal circles.
Speaking at the world premiere of the movie in London's Leicester Square last night, Emily said: "I hope they see this as a film that doesn't demonize the royal family because I think a lot of people have done that and scrutinized them. I think this is a more intimate portrait of Victoria which, hopefully, they will like."
One royal who has already given her seal of approval to the movie is Sarah Ferguson, the Duchess of York, who was married to Prince Andrew.

Cheryl Cole "loves" Britain's royal family. The Girls Aloud singer has joined a host of other famous faces - including former Spice Girl Geri Halliwell and Lulu - in wishing Prince Charles a happy 60th birthday for Friday and also revealed she is a keen supporter of the royals.
She told Britain's Hello! Magazine: "I love the royal family and would like to wish Prince Charles a happy birthday and congratulations."
"We met him two years ago at the Royal Variety Performance. He was very sweet and charming. He said how much he liked Girls Aloud, but I think he was just trying to be flattering. He was very approachable and friendly and he told me he was pleased to meet us!"
Geri Halliwell - who famously pinched the prince's bottom and told him he was "very sexy" when she met him at his 50th birthday party - was equally as glowing about Charles.
