Charming surprise
dmasursky6 September 2011
I knew nothing about this movie when I picked it, which I did only because it has animals, which my 7 year old daughter loves. It was a bit offbeat, but also quite fun, with great animation (much more attractive than most computer-generated movies made for kids) and surprisingly catchy songs (far better than the saccharine numbers in most straight-to-video fare). The voice cast was excellent also, including Rob Reiner, Sid Caesar, and Chaka Khan (!) Even my 11 year old son, who considers himself way above kid movies like this, got caught up watching it. We all enjoyed it. And I appreciated the message, about being true to your friends and yourself, and I liked the "around-the-world" aspect, because the animals visited several locales that my kids don't know much about. It gets harder and harder to find movies we can watch together as a family, but this one fits the bill very nicely.

Not Bad

This is a TV movie by DiC for Nickelodean put on DVD by MGM.

It does star animals, and does have singing, but it's not too bad.

They went with a very interesting style of artwork for the movie that elevates the story.

There is an animal research lab that is being closed down, and the animals will be "Taken Care Of", so three of the animals escape and travel around the world trying to escape the hunter.

This strays widely from the original Jules Verne story, 'Around the World in 80 Days' that it is based on, but by the end you can see the story elements they did use.

So there was a lot that made cringe, but I was pretty happy with after it was over.

It's actually like a 6.5, but you should watch it.

Ok so like two years ago my sister and I both remembered watching this as kids but didn't remember the name so we asked our mom and tried explaining it to the best of our abilities and just by telling her what we remembered of the plot she thought we were joking, we also found nothing on the internet so we started to think it was a shared fever dream BUT THEN TWO DAYS AGO MY SISTER RAN INTO MY ROOM AND SAID SHE FOUND IT

(The actual review): After watching it again I'm pretty sure it's still a fever dream, if you try to explain it it sounds absolutely crazy and gives you high expectations that it would be so bad it's good, but it's just kind of boring like all the outrageously wired things happen but they just fall flat.
