I have been a fan of John Norman's Gor series of books for several years, and was really disappointed in the two movies that were made out of them.

So when Fencer of Minerva found it's way to me I was a little shocked and surprised just how "Gorean" it was.

This movie is not for the faint of heart. Yes, their is nudity, sex, slavery and male dominance. The books themselves, their are 28 in the series have an almost cult standing about them. This is despite the fact that they are badly written and frankly not that interesting.

In a nutshell it's the story of a spoiled Princeses, named Diana, that runs away from home in a medieval world. She is captured by slavers and then sold to a man who was her childhood sweetheart, named Sho - and rightful heir to the kingdom.

The story is told from her point of view, as she comes to love Sho and find her true self (though admittedly as a slave). The woman, even the slaves, are shown as being very strong of will and independent in spirit.

The movie also has some Conan and Red Sonya like moments. Overthrowing the evil warlord, wandering the desert, the bad getting what's coming to them.

Overall not a great movie, in that we have seen it 1000 times before. But for those with an interest in the writings of John Norman and Gorean/BDSM philosophy, this is a nice and fun addition to the collection.
