Actor and producer who played Brad Majors in the original Rocky Horror Show in 1973 and Saffy's gay dad in Ab Fab
Christopher Malcolm, who has died of cancer aged 67, played Brad Majors in the original production of The Rocky Horror Show in 1973 and, as his life as an actor started to overlap with an interest in producing the shows themselves, he became, after co-producing the West End revival of Rocky Horror in 1990, the executive in charge of all subsequent worldwide productions.
His death came just a few days after his latest project, the revival of Oh What a Lovely War at Stratford East, opened to enthusiastic notices, probably sealing a West End transfer. The way the show turned out was a good example of the kind of creative partnerships he enjoyed and nurtured throughout his career. We have six months to go and a lot of movies left to watch, and as was evidenced by the six films I included in my "Top Ten of the Year Contenders" on yesterday's The Best and Worst Movies of 2011... So Far post, there haven't been a ton of excellent films in theaters just yet. Three of those six films I saw at the Cannes Film Festival and only one of them has hit theaters so far (Midnight in Paris). This means we have to wash away the taste of the last six months. Sure, there were some good films and films we will all likely revisit over the years, but I think we can all generally agree 2011 hasn't exactly been a stellar year for movies.
So what's coming up? Well, I was able to compile a list of the top 21 (plus three) films I'm personally looking forward to seeing.

Cast: Forest Whitaker, Bruce Willis, Malin Akerman, Nikki Reed, Deborah Ann Woll
Director: Aaron Harvey
Summary: The story focuses on three women being thrust into an extraordinary situation involving a psychopathic hitman, a grizzled trucker and a delusional line cook.
Analysis: Oddly little is known about this indie crime comedy aside from the three lead female roles have gone through more than a couple of rounds of casting musical chairs. The likes of Maggie Grace, Kate Mara, Laura Ramsey, Sarah Roemer, Lizzy Caplan and Lauren German were all attached at one point or another before the final trio of Malin Akerman ("Watchmen"), Nikki Reed ("Twilight") and Deborah Ann Woll ("True Blood") were settled on.
Bruce Willis, Forest Whitaker, Michael Rosenbaum and Brad Dourif also star with Willis as a crime boss behind everything that happens and Whitaker as a dangerously unstable assassin. Aaron Harvey, who last directed...

If you were entertained by the way George and Martha trashed Nick and Honey in Edward Albee's "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf," or even better if you were turned on to the revenge exacted by Hayley Stark against would-be rapist Jeff Kohlver in David Slade's "Hard Candy," then this is the picture for you.

No way is "44 Inch Chest," a stagy work written by Louis Mellis and David Scinto, as literate as the Albee play which was adapted into a similarly stagy movie by Mike Nichols. In fact despite the claim in the production notes that this new film is Shakespearean, this exhibition of elemental machismo is not only claustrophobic, but...

Oh, dear. Never overlook where you are living. Apparently the excellent Chicago Opera Vanguard has lost out on a sponsor because of the frequent use of a commonly used word beginning with "F." Really? And in the splendid opera Greek by the Chicago Symphony Orchestra's composer-in-residence Mark-Anthony Turnage. What could be more respectable than that, you may well ask? Eric Reda's energy and vision deserves better. I am very sorry indeed that I will not be able to see this production. I had it in my calendar for last week and then they changed the dates. It is maddening - but I hope that all my readers living in Chicago will show up. Now that Chicago Opera Theater's season is over this will be the last great thing of the Spring/Summer. It should not...
