Sanjay Kapoor had decided he would retire from films if the film flopped. He had decided to produce a film with Salman Khan and took his dates. He told Salman "Agar Sirf Tum chali gayee, yeh dates wapas tumhare moo pe maroonga".Not only was the film a box office hit, Sanjay Kapoor went on to have another surprise hit with " Chuppa Rustom".

The film was remade in Bangladesh as "Hothat brishty" (Sudden rain) which was also the debut movie of Bangladeshi superstar Ferdous. The film was also a huge hit
All songs are composed by Nadeem-Shravan, with lyrics penned by Sameer. The Sirf Tum soundtrack album sold 2.2 million units, and was ninth best-selling Bollywood music album of 1999. "Dilbar" was remade in Satyamev Jayate, where it was sung by Neha Kakkar and also became a chart buster like the original song.
The songs Ek Mulaqat Zaroori Hai Sanam and Dilbar proved hugely popular and were responsible for promoting the movie and helping it become a success.
