Morning Colors on U.S. Cruiser 'Raleigh' (1899)
This Edison film runs just under a minute and we see the camera on the stern of a ship where we see some sailors and an officer saluting the American flag as it goes up. Obviously current movie fans aren't going to find anything entertaining here but those who enjoy history or these early films should at least be entertained. As usual, there's not too much to gain from watching these early films outside of just getting to see a bit of history in a certain place and time. I always enjoy watching these films as it gives you a clear look at people, places and other things from 1899. Just the look of the costumes they're wearing to what the flag looked at during this part of time. At under a minute nothing much happens but I'm sure those in the image never thought someone would be watching them over a hundred years later!
