A family is keen for an elderly relative to have a hip replacement quickly, but disagree about her recuperation plan. Various staff are absent and this causes stress at both surgeries - especially for Julia.

Nathan hasn't returned from holiday: causing worry for Julia and Ben. A suspicious death following a break in and a traumatised widow are the first job for a new police surgeon and Marc unilaterally hires a new locum.

Faith drops a 16th birthday card to one of Mac's patients and is asked for the morning after pill. She is determined to respect her wish for confidentiality. Helen organizes welcome drinks for the locum.

A bride to be worries she is not just forgetful, but might be ill and when Marc treats her grown-up son with a gambling problem he gets suspicious. Helen and locum, Mike, hit it off, but Kate is still not a fan.

Ben sees an anxious teenager and worries her stressed mother is part of the problem. Marc is not happy that Helen went out with Mike. Mac find out Faith has handed in her notice and now Nathan is staying he needs somewhere to live.

Greg sees a go-getting elderly patient with a string of ailments and a long list of ambitions to achieve, including paragliding. She wants to surprise her busy daughter with a last minute Caribbean holiday.

While dropping Claire at school, Helen witnesses the lollipop lady being run over, but she does not want to report it to the police. Helen takes sides between Mike and Kate. Nathan moves in with Ben and tensions are there from the start.

Mac sponsors a patient trying to get fit for a sponsored run to raise money to send her wayward son to a soccer camp. Marc fails to put Helen off Mike and tries to cheer Faith up with a drink after work.

Nathan makes himself at home at Ben's. Kate speaks her mind to Helen. When a boy misses his physio after an accident Marc finds the boy's dad is keeping big secrets from him. Mac gets upset that Faith talked to Marc not him, about leaving.

Mike helps at The Haven, where Kate helps a fraught mother trying to flee an abusive husband. The stress is getting to Mac, but he refuses to rest, so Julia comes up with her own treatment plan.

When an unhappily married man is bitten by his girlfriend in retaliation for his attack when she ends their affair he blames it on the dog. Faith thinks Dr Greg must be desperate as he's chatting up female patients.

While Dr Ben makes fun of Faith's attempts to find a new job, a staff meeting is convened to discuss the situation. Having scored with Dr Helen, Dr Mike turns his attentions to the equally keen Kate. Faith treats a deaf old woman who turns out to be more than capable of dealing with a potential robber.

An angry young man ends up at the police station and The Haven as his alcohol counsellor tries to save him, though he has problems of his own. Mike's suggestion to bunk off together upsets Kate, so he tries to get back in her good books.

Ben sees a home-schooled girl who wants a microchip implanted to stop her mother worrying. Julia blackmails Mac to get him to the cardiologist. Helen gets no answers from an evasive Mike, then asks Kate, who tries not to look guilty.

Helen gives up on Mike, leaving the way clear for him and Kate. Mac sees a couple who have just moved in together: will their medical issues drive them apart? Nathan needs Ben...to lend him money.

Helen sees a bereaved man who is busy fund-raising, but not looking after his own health. Mac notices the spring in Kate's step and begins to wonder about the cause. Kate wants to come clean. Nathan can't wait to spend Ben's money.

Greg takes a personal interest when promotion candidates come to him for their medicals and it seems there is discrimination in the company. Mike gets a phone call which could mean upset for Kate and Ben gets a letter from Jude.

Marc is contacted by a friend's daughter, who is supposed to be on her gap year, but is living in a grotty flat in Letherbridge. Why does Greg's patient from yesterday want another appointment? Mike finally explains his plans to Kate.

A couple end up at the police station after loudly rowing with each other on the doorstep - but who is to blame? Mike, Kate and Mac all think they know best.

A student is going to donate her eggs to make money, while Helen tells the girl's father he has Huntington's Disease. Nathan is not a good house guest at Ben's. Kate finally gives Mike her decision and then has to handle the consequences.

Ben tries to help a retired couple troubled by local yobs, but Nathan is still annoyed with him and takes offence at everything he says and does. Helen is still oblivious to Kate and Mike's relationship. Greg has a date with Tom.

Now everyone knows Kate is leaving: Helen is furious and everyone else reacts in their own way. Marc treats an aging, record shop owning Lothario with prostate cancer. Kate and Mac have a heart to heart as she leaves for Dublin with Mike.

A ditsy, but sexy, new receptionist, Sarah Finch, starts at the Best Practice. She impresses Dr. Eliot though by helping to fix his car.

An expectant mother needs more help than she wants to admit and when Mac and Faith are there for her it puts some things into perspective for all concerned.

Helen sees a woman with M.E., her son troubled with acne and husband in denial over his trouble sleeping. Nathan wins the poetry competition, but will it help things between him and Ben? Things seem to be going well between Greg and Tom.

Ben sees a teenage boy who can only go out at night and some local boys think he is a vampire. Greg insists Tom sees a doctor about his skin lesion. Sarah's proud dad is at Best again, but he is looking for favours.

Greg works so hard to get Tom an appointment that he worries it must be something serious. Mac helps an expectant mother whose husband wants a natural birth, then has pain of his own.

Marc and Helen think about love and loss when she treats an elderly man who won't have a flu jab and he gets involved with the complicated situation of a widow and her lifelong friends living next door. Tom has his appointment at last.

Helen's flu patient has died and his widow blames her. Greg treats a stressed trainee taxi driver, whose brother seems to be the cause of his problems. Mac gives Tom and Greg their test results and warns them not to be too complacent.

Julia is horrified when she sees Ben's new patient: a surgeon, who knows Ben's father and has an STD. She raises eyebrows when she tries to stop him being alone with Faith. She finds an ally in Faith and they team up.

While Helen is visiting a lady with worsening arthritis, an unexpected visitor arrives. Tom wants to take Greg on a holiday to celebrate their test results. Nathan and Sarah have lunch together. Gloria waits at Best to see Helen, but why?

Helen visits Gloria in hospital to try and change her mind. She meets Greg, who is there while Tom has his melanoma removed. Mac treats a fading star with headaches at the theatre and is given free tickets. A death puts feelings in focus.

Nathan and Sarah both try to help an anxious bride to be with a mother needing a costly heart op. Marc and Helen try to play it cool at work. Tom tells Greg he has not had his biopsy results, even though we see him leaving the hospital.

Mac talks to Tom about his cancer spreading, but agrees not to tell Greg. Ben's patient has an angry, demanding, disabled father. Julia tries to find out what Helen and Marc are up to by taking Helen to lunch.

Faith visits a terminal patient, but ends up helping the daughter find out about her family.

Julia's aunt arrives at Mac's after leaving her nursing home after one night. Helen and Marc are not being very discreet at work. Julia takes her aunt to a garden centre run by people with mental illness. Greg wants Tom's test results.

Greg is still mad at Mac and is the only one determined Tom should not give up. Mac recognizes a confused patient, who has turned up after 5 years. Helen and Marc are the subject of office gossip.

Greg sees a worried man who has been travelling round Africa with his younger brother and is convinced his brother has caught AIDS. Greg then sees the brother and finds out what risks he was really taking. Marc and Helen are besotted.

Faith treats a dad rehabilitating after a BMX injury years ago and his daughter who is determined to skateboard despite her injuries. Ben checks Greg is prepared to stand by Tom. Marc and Helen go public and a new face takes an interest.

Marc's visitor is his half brother with bad news. Helen treats a pupil whose prejudiced mother believes he has caught TB from traveller children at his school and the teacher also has a cough. A miffed Greg is finally on Tom's bucket list.

A WW2 veteran counsels a young woman keen to join the armed forces & who has a mother who disapproves.

Marc sees a terminally ill man wishing to stop all his medication. His loved ones disagree with him. Nathan and Sarah's pranks get out of hand. Marc seeks advice on what to do about his half-brother. Greg plans a fun afternoon with Tom.

Faith visits a sick woman as her son returns from abroad to find his ex is about to leave town. Nathan and Sarah apologise just to save themselves a lecture. Marc tries to track down Robert and Greg pesters Mac about Tom's whereabouts.

A woman sees Mac for help with her son's night terrors while her partner works nights, but does not want Mac to see the boy. Greg rejects Tom's calls. Marc meets up with Robert to get to know him better. Nathan reads Sarah his poetry.

The trainer at Ben's boxing gym wants one last bout to prove himself and asks Ben for a certificate to prove he is fit to fight. Sarah's employment agency supervisor takes a shine to Greg. Greg doesn't know where he stands with Tom.

Ben treats a long distance lorry driver who feels he is too overweight to impress his line-dancing lady-friend. Sarah asks Nathan to write her a poem. Robert visits Marc with an idea about an orphanage in Kosovo. Tom and Greg finally talk.

At a first aid course Nathan reads Sarah his poem. Helen helps Mark make a final decision on Kosovo. Greg and Tom prepare to leave for their big trip, with Tom still making jokes about his imminent death. Ronnie appears at the leaving do.

3 months on: Greg's back alone, Helen's not happy about Marc's replacement locum and Nathan and Sarah are making plans to go out. Mac treats a girl with nightmares and a tense dad. Julia hires an old friend. Helen plans to visit Ronnie.

Helen calls at Ronnie's till she gets an answer. She treats a struggling artist with money problems and a bad back, who has been burgled and is getting a divorce. Sarah buys a nice dress for her date and the locum lets on he knows Julia.

Harry treats an elderly lady with cataracts, being looked after by her sister, and is ageist to her and her neighbour, who consults him about period pains. Helen feels her life is lacking excitement. Julia plays down her and Harry's past.
