Pretty Good Short Comedy
Snow Leopard9 September 2004
This Leon Errol short comedy gets pretty good mileage out of the basic idea of "Twin Husbands". It's among the better of Errol's many two-reelers, building on the setup with a good variety of material, and keeping things moving all of the time. Errol and Dorothy Granger carry almost the whole story, as the supporting cast has very limited screen time.

The story starts Leon leaving on a business trip as his brother is just arriving in town, and from there it builds up a series of comedic coincidences. Most of it is implausible, but amusing, and it is carried off rather well in general. Errol's reactions and expressions combine well with Granger's exaggerated outrage, and as a team they keep the story on track and keep you laughing.

Unfortunately, twin husbands are not twice the fun.

Warning: Spoilers
What kind of husband doesn't tell his wife that he has a twin brother? A snake in the grass, of course, and here, that snake is Leon Errol, not playing Uncle Matt disguising himself as Lord Epping in one of those very funny "Mexican Spitfire" films. He appears as look-alike brothers, and even the brother hasn't seen a picture of what his sister-in-law looks like. Having just had a makeover, this makes her convinced that he's fooling around on her, and jumping the gun, hires a photographer to frame him so she can take him for all he's worth in divorce court. Errol's regular "short" wife, Dorothy Granger, is married to him here once again, and as usual, she is as hot-tempered as she is wrong. Some of the gags are amusing, but really, the plot is totally unbelievable and the women are stereotypical.

So bad it was good!!!

This old-time short was so horrible that it was excellent. But really folks, Leon Errol is such an unusual character. I wonder how he became so popular? Does anyone know? If not, that's OK, we'll just continue to enjoy his funny, funny short subjects for many more decades.

What explains our enduring obsession with Mr. Errol?
klutch_krusch24 July 2004
Twin Husbands, being my first real Errol experience, literally drove me to a point of uncontrolled laughter. But seriously, what explains our enduring obsession with Mr. Errol? I'm sure not even Leon himself knows that one. But that's okay--we shall continue to enjoy his outrageously hilarious short subjects for many more years to come. Don't miss this extraordinary Hal Yates directorial, featuring Mr. Leon Errol as dual roles for the first time ever. I recommend this one to anyone with a sense of humor. It is humorous and intelligent both at the same time. By this I mean that Leon Errol, also playing his twin brother Alfred, shows his intelligence in getting himself out of humorous situations. But Hal Yates is such an amazing director, it's no wonder his name ever became the part of common speech we so often hear among young people today. I give it five stars, and I'm sure you will too. Enjoy!

One wife, one makeover, on twin, what could go wrong?
catcha2226 August 2002
Leon Errol stars in this clever comedy short about a his wife who gets a makeover and his stray twin brother. This is an excellent short film, but they tried to add a bit of slapstick into it and that just didn't help it any. Still, I recommend it to anyone who likes that kind of thing.
