A Brazilian gem from the 80's
guisreis26 August 2023
Funny Brazilian film unmistakably from the 80's, with chaotic, nonsense and surrealist elements. Diogo Vilela has a good performance in the leading role and singer Leo Jaime is amusing as his cousin (although with some terrible lines, such as calling Argentines as "cucarachas" and "Tupamaros" as synonym of gangsters) and Guilherme Karam as the annoying unpleasant coach, but I want to highlight the actresses: Andréa Beltrão is very funny despite having a minor role, beautiful Malu Mader is impacting, and cute volleyball player Vera Mossa surprises acting with such a lovely presence. Numerous pop rock scenes do not add anything to the story and remind me the old tradition of Brazilian chanchadas, light-hearted comedies which always had samba scenes usually with little relation to the plot. To resume, Rock Estrela is an enjoyable flick from the 80's which deserved to have more attention.
