All the apes
BandSAboutMovies10 August 2023
Warning: Spoilers
The circus that Kapoor (Bir Sakhuja) and Jagdish (Madan Puri) own is a money-losing proposition but if they can just capture the giant ape Otango from the jungles of Malay, all their problems will be solved. Along with Professor Sharma, Rita (Ragini), a hunter named Ajit (Ajit) and Chandu the circus clown (Randhir), they go in search of the beast but find only destruction and the laboratory of Dr. Cyclops (K. N. Singh), a maniac who has started transforming humans into gorillas.

Dr. Cyclops has a daughter, Shobha (Helen), who wants to help the outsiders survive while all the mad scientist wants to do is marry Rita, even bringing Jagdish over to his side. It seems like nearly everyone is going to have to die and most of the jungle is going to have to burn before this is all over.

Amazingly, India has more than one kaiju movie, as this was followed by Balwant B. Dave's Gogola, which is Godzilla. As for Shikari, it somehow combines Mighty Joe Young, King Kong and Dr. Cyclops - which was produced by Kong's Merian C. Cooper and, like all three movies, directed by Ernest B. Schoedsack- into one movie.

Dr. Cyclops is pretty awesome. He can shrink people, create a giant gorilla and has a snake pit that he loves throwing people into. He also has a mutant chained to a wall that never really gets referred to. If I had a captive mutant, you best believe I'd be bragging about it.

Amazingly, this Kong also has songs. Five of them!

Bad movie with wonderful music
sherrvin-111 April 2020
This is not a movie worth one's time except for may be the exceptional G.S. Kohli music. Watch it only if you like good old music otherwise listen to the Music and let it go. The song 'Tumko Piya Dil Diya' is a treat for your eyes with graceful dance performances by evergreen Helen & Ragini, one of Travancore sisters.

a beautiful movie to watch
pvsavla15 June 2012
The main reason, I saw this film was because of its melodious songs and music composed by G.S.Kohli. Most of the songs were a treat to see and listen, with two gems of duet, both by Lata and Rafi, namely 'Chaman ke phool' & 'Agar main poochhoon' written by Farooq Kaiser and shot in a very beautiful location. The last one can go into the list of top 100 romantic songs of Bollywood. The bonus of seeing this film, besides the songs was the story based on the search for getting King Kong, the gorilla for a circus company. The owner of the circus company also happened to be the father of the heroine Ragini in the movie, (who incidentally was a good dancer too and happened to be the younger sister of yesteryear actress Padmini). Ajit although looking bit aged, made a good pair with her. King Kong, the fictitious gorilla made famous by Hollywood films, is very well depicted in this Bollywood version, shot in exotic locales presumably Maldives or Andaman islands or could be some forests in Kerala. Although the film ends with a typical Bollywood happy ending where 10 people easily defeat 50 people, but overall the movie was fun to watch.
