Wells Fargo Days (1944) Poster

Dennis Moore: Bob McAdams

Quotes

  • Millie Carter : Bob, a letter for you.

[waving mail in the air and walking up to Bob]

Millie Carter : Hello, Bob. This just came in on the stage.

Bob McAdams : Oh, thanks, Millie. Wells Fargo and company; main office in San Francisco.

Millie Carter : That's funny. I wonder what they could be writing you about?

Bob McAdams : Six thousand dollars!

Millie Carter : Six thousand dollars?

Bob McAdams : [reading letter]  I take great pleasure enclosing herewith, our draft for $6,000, payable to your order as reward for the capture of the who who robbed our Sunrise office and recovery of the treasure. This is in accordance with the standard practice of Wells Fargo and Company, and is at the rate of $250 per head for robbers and 25% of the amount recovered.

Millie Carter : Oh, and listen,

    [continuing to read Bob's letter]

Millie Carter : While we're always glad to pay for captured robbers "either dead or alive", we would much rather pay for them dead. Signed, John Valentine.

Bob McAdams : Well, that's the end of my potato peeling.

Millie Carter : [disappointed]  Oh, Bob.

Bob McAdams : Well, for Mrs. Warren, I mean. The next I peel will be for Mrs. Bob McAdams.

    [pause]

Bob McAdams : You know, Millie, you made it a little harder than ordinary because... well, I had to keep my promise. But I kept it, didn't I?

Millie Carter : You certainly did. And if you hadn't, after the talking to I gave you... well, oh, Bob... Bob, you can't know how proud of you I am.

Bob McAdams : Of me... or the six thousand.

Millie Carter : Bob, can't you ever be serious?

Bob McAdams : Serious? I can be plenty serious, Millie, if you are. With you and this six thousand and what I know about cows...

[Bob and Millie walk off into the distance]

Narrator : [final lines]  And that, as far as we need be concerned, is the real story of the man from Tascosa.

  • Bob McAdams : Well, Sheriff, I don't know whether I got the right right men or not, but these men were acting kind of suspicious, so I brought them in.

Sheriff William Miller : You got the right ones, all right. Lon Carter recognized Mike here just before he shot him.

Bob McAdams : How is Lon Carter?

Sheriff William Miller : He'll pull through.

Bob McAdams : That sure makes me happy. Well, whatever these hombres stole, you'll find it on them or in their saddlebags, I guess. I didn't have a chance to look.

Sheriff William Miller : Young fella, I think some of us made a mistake around here. C'mon, have a drink.

Bob McAdams : No hard feelings, Sheriff, but no thanks. These fellas put me a little behind in my stage mail. Oh, and by the way, if you see anything of my watch, I sure could use it.
