For those who still scan liner notes in the streaming era, one credit on Neil Young’s new Archives Vol. II box — “Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young: Vocals” — will be both familiar and intriguing. The sight of those names on the collection, which dives into Young’s 1972–1976 work, is hardly a surprise; on and off, Young has worked with the other three men for more than 50 years. But these were the years when Csny fitfully worked on one of classic rock’s mythic, never-completed albums, Human Highway. And with no advance notice,...

For the first time in a while, Netflix is adding no new titles today, so let’s instead take the opportunity to recap what’s gone up on the streaming site over the past week, from Saturday, August 1st to Saturday, August 8th. As that encompasses the first day of the month, there was a huge amount of fresh content added to Netflix’s library over this period. To be exact, there were 49 movies and 24 TV shows.
On the film side of things, this haul includes many an acclaimed or cult favorite flick from across the decades in all kinds of genres. The highlight is probably the entire Jurassic Park trilogy, which has proved popular with Netflix users as the first two entries have been hanging around the top 10 most-watched movies list almost ever since arriving. 80s classic fantasy flick The NeverEnding Story and its sequel were added on the 1st as well,...

With the summer starting to wind down, Netflix appear to be taking their foot off the gas a little bit when it comes to releasing high-profile original movies. Over the last few months, the streaming service has debuted a string of in-house projects that have either been subjected to widespread critical acclaim or racked up huge viewing numbers, and frequently both.
Netflix can sometimes be fairly secretive about their viewership data unless they’re shouting their success from the rooftops, and having recently revealed their Top 10 most-watched original movies ever, you can understand why they went public. If you include the reported 72 million streams for Charlize Theron’s The Old Guard that would see it claim sixth spot in the rankings, then four of the Top 10 were released between March and July of this year alone.
However, despite having a huge number of high-profile originals scheduled for the rest of the year,...

Of the musicians you’d expect to come out in support of Donald Trump, someone from System Of A Down probably wasn’t high on the list. And yet, John Dolmayan—the guy who played drums on tracks like “Fuck The System,” “Prison Song,” and “War?”—appears to be currently engaged in an indirect social media argument over…...

The Grammy Award winner, celebrated for both her singing and songwriting skills, has also been acting for years in TV and film.
But this year the “Queen of Hip-Hop Soul” has taken her acting career to the next level: Blige was nominated for Best Supporting Actress for her performance in Mudbound — a Dee Rees film adaption of the 2008 novel — where she plays a mother-of-four dealing with racial prejudice on a Mississippi Delta farm during the Jim Crow South.
Blige also scored a best original song nomination for “Mighty River,...

Nine-time Grammy award winner Mary J. Blige is in talks to star in Adam Shankman’s Rock of Ages, a jukebox musical that features ’80s songs from Journey, Twisted Sister, Styx, Bon Jovi, Pat Benatar, Poision, and Asia.
The musical takes place primarily in a Sunset Strip rock club, where protagonists Drew Bowie and Sherrie Christian fall in love but are torn apart by the rock lifestyle. Tyler Perry is adding some harmony to his next picture.
The writer-director has cast nine-time Grammy winner Mary J. Blige in "I Can Do Bad All by Myself," an adaptation of one of his early plays. Blige joins Taraji P. Henson, recently nominated for an Oscar, in the Lionsgate release, which is due in theaters Sept. 11.
In the film, Blige will play a nightclub manager and singer who is good friends with Henson's character. Madea, Perry's most iconic creation, also will appear in the movie, which is shooting at Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta.
Blige is coming off two sold-out national tours and is in the studio working on a new album due out this year from Interscope Geffen. The singer already has eight platinum or multiplatinum albums.
Blige, who is repped by Icm and Kendu Isaacs, recently guest starred on "Entourage" and is lining up another TV gig for later in the year.

When Darnell Martin made her 1994 feature debut, I Like It Like That, she was the first African-American woman to direct a studio feature . Since then she's been largely absent from feature filmmaking, with the exception of 2001's Prison Song, and has directed episodes of TV shows like Law & Order and Grey's Anatomy. But 14 years after her debut, Martin is back to the big screen with Cadillac Records, her passion project about the birth of rock and roll starting with the bluesmen at Chess Records. At an earlier press conference Martin, a tiny blond woman, got nothing but love from her actors, who include Jeffrey Wright, Mos Def, Columbus Short and Gabrielle Union. In a later one-on-one interview, she returned the love right back to them-- including effusive, no-bullshit praise for Beyonce, whom she calls an "angel." Read our exclusive interview with Martin on some of the most colorful characters ...
