Blue Is the Warmest Colour, the award-winning French film, is already notorious for its fisticuffs between stars and director. It's the latest in an unhappy tradition of histrionics and control-freakery. Here are some vintage feuds
Directors and actors being what they are, they like a good argument. On one side are obsessive perfectionists, on the other self-involved exhibitionists – or so the theory goes. It's often proved a combustible mix in the past, with what is euphemistically termed "creative tension" often adding to the dynamic of the final film.
The media, obviously, is the silent third partner in all this; though you, the reader, ought to be equally ashamed, gleefully drinking in all the foul-mouthed resentment and high-decibel score-settling. You don't have to look far: actors Léa Seydoux and Adèle Exarchopolous turned on Blue Is the Warmest Colour director Abdellatif Kechiche, accusing him of traumatising them during the extended periods shooting sex and fight scenes.

For a good chunk of the 1990s, there wasn't a more exciting band in any land than the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion. When this New York trio, featuring Spencer, guitarist Judah Bauer, and drummer Russell Simins, burst onto the scene 20-odd years ago, they made a powerful impact, combining the raw irreverence of punk with the swing and swagger of funk, soul music and hip-hop, all the while re-inventing the blues for a young generation of culture-gobbling misfits.
After their 2004 record, "Damage," the Blues Explosion were on the road for a bit and then stopped functioning for a few years.
"I was the guy that proposed it because I wanted to work on Heavy Trash, which began before the Blues Explosion knocked off work in 2005," Spencer says, over the phone from NYC. In 2004, he began collaborating with Montreal-bred singer/guitarist Matt Verta-Ray on a lively new rockabilly band.

Warning: This trailer contains audio that is Nsfw! It is red band after all. Kevin Hart has been a outrageous scene-stealer in comedies like The 40 Year Old Virgin, Think Like a Man, and The Five-Year Engagement. And with each of these eye-catching and hilarious performances, he's gained new admirers in audiences and in the industry. But when Hart's not cracking wise in moves and television, he's touring the countries as a house-packing stand up comedian. In 2012, he toured with a comedy show called "Let Me Explain," and coming soon to theaters you can see the set that sold out Madison Square Garden. That's 18,200 seats, guys. In the red band trailer courtesy of Yahoo, you can see Hart struggling to find fans on the street, arguing with his friends about proper tour bus etiquette (shitting on the bus incurs heavy fines), and of course performing before thousands at Madison Square.

The Great Gatsby features one of the most iconic pool scenes in entertainment history -and if that’s a spoiler, well then shame on you for not doing your 9th grade English homework. Baz Luhrmann‘s big screen adaptation of the F. Scott Fitzgerald classic opens wide this Friday (!), and just like Gatsby, our relationship with pools has been a mix of both pleasure and pain. Yes, it’s a rare and awesome chance to get a first-hand glimpse at seriously fit people putting their fab physique on display in revealing swimwear. But then it gets weird when people ask us why we’re swimming with our shirt on. “I’m cold” doesn’t work as well as you’d think. But in honor of the film’s release, we’ve decided to count down ten movie pool scenes where no one keeps their shirt on!

Seconds out - ding ding! Movieland is replete with tales of similar films coincidentally finding themselves fighting toe-to-toe: Robin Hood and Prince Of Thieves; Capote and Infamous; Snow White & The Huntsman and Mirror Mirror; most recently Olympus Has Fallen and White House Down. Joining that fine tradition we now have a pair of old man boxing movies. In the red corner, Sly Stallone and Robert De Niro in Grudge Match. And now, newly arrived in the blue corner, please welcome James Caan and Louis Gossett Jr. in Fighting Man.Ok, so it's not quite the heavyweight Rocky / Raging Bull pairing of its rival, but Caan has The Godfather and a Peckinpah film under his belt (not to mention the excellent and underrated Peckinpah homage Way Of the Gun), while Gossett took the gloves off for four Iron Eagles and the Dolph version of The Punisher. New apocacomedy "This Is the End" may be based on the (hopefully) fictitious end of the world, but one part of the movie definitely was real: Michael Cera's sore face.
In the red band trailer for "This Is the End," the twee Canadian slaps pop dinger Rihanna's read, and she gives him a smack of her own — across the face. So much for stage fighting, as Seth Rogen, one of the film's stars, revealed to MTV News' Josh Horowitz that the slap was real. And hard.
"Rihanna did slap the s**t out of him, for real," Rogen said at a panel for MTV's Sneak Peek Week, a week of first looks at this summer's blockbusters, leading up to the 2013 MTV Movie Awards this Sunday.
"We did it like six times, and then the last time we did it, he was like, 'I don't think I can do this again',...

“Olympus Has Fallen” fails to impress yet again with an intense-looking Gerard Butler as all that stands between terrorists and the president (Aaron Eckhart). In the red band clip below, Mike Banning (Butler), a disgraced Secret Service agent, takes on the role of John McClane without much of the “Yippee-ki-yay” pizzazz other than letting out an obligatory “Fuck!” As the terrorists take the White House (Secret Service Code: “Olympus”), Butler, police and White House security fail to stop them from entering and kidnapping the president, apparently. While stuck in the White House, Banning becomes a one-man effort to recover the president from the kidnappers, eliciting groans from an audience who has seen these elements before and/or are waiting for a better version.Directed by Antoine Fuqua (“Training Day”) and written by first-time screenwriters Creighton Rothenberger and Katrin Benedikt, the film looks like an unpromising, albeit grittier,...

Now the One Direction star has hit back at the Culture Club singer's remarks, accusing the him of 'telling porkies' before describing him as 'weird' and 'scary'.

Fight! Fight! Fight! Liam vs George
Taking to Twitter, Liam wrote: "Now, now boy lets not tell porkies firstly thanks for getting my name wrong three times secondly then asking me where is Liam?...awkward.
"Then when you finally got it right saying you wanted Niall instead. If you would have asked me for a picture I would have stopped bro I just did what you said and pointed Niall out for you.

At this point, the Gallaghers are as much of a Sunday tradition as a hangover. (Or church, whatever.) While this week's episode felt a bit like filler, it was still at least the booze-soaked, scam-pulling, child-endangering kind of filler that only Shameless can provide. Let's dig in!
After an intro shot of a sleepy household that delivers two servings of side-butt (thanks to Lip and Jimmy), Fiona (Emmy Rossum) gets out of bed, still stressed about the money situation. She goes downstairs and finds V (Shanola Hampton) wide awake on the couch - she's of course stressing over the fact that Kev's almost-ex-wife showed up out of nowhere. V points out that the house is quiet, so Fiona screams to wake the dead. (And even Carl.)
Speaking of screams that wake the dead, over at the Jackson house, Sheila (Joan Cusack) and Jody (Zach McGowan) are still struggling with baby...

Far from prolific, writer-director Roman Coppola hasn't helmed a film since his first, Cq, in 2001. Nonetheless, he recently earned notice for co-writing Moonrise Kingdom. The charming tale of first love not only won over critics, but also was embraced by audiences, breaking box office records for a limited release. But that's not all. Just yesterday, the film that inspired a thousand couples costumes scored Coppola his first-ever Academy Award nomination. All this means the expectations for his return to the director's chair, A Glimpse Inside The Mind Of Charles Swan III, are mounting. But be warned, this comedy fronted by Charlie Sheen and Jason Schwartzman is about as far away from the enchanted island of New Penzance as could be. In the red-band trailer below, Sheen shows what you can expect from this crazy comedy with a literal tip of the hat to the film's title. But be warned...

Over the weekend, it sounds like more than a few of you checked out "Skyfall" -- $80 million+ worth of you, in fact. And around the rest of the world, it's even more, with the film having taken over $500 million internationally since it started rolling out two weeks ago. And for the most part, it's been acclaimed as one of the best (if not the very best) entries in the long-running spy franchise to date. But it hasn't been a unanimous success. There's plenty of naysayers out there, and, as ever, The Playlist team have been split, some loving the film, and some finding it hugely uneven. Now that the film's out and you've seen it, we decided we'd get into the details of what various team members thought worked and what didn't about "Skyfall." Sam Raimi updates his Evil Dead franchise with a reboot of the classic horror film that put him on the map. Watch the more gruesome version.
The original cult horror film also launched Burn Notice's Bruce Campbell's career. The campy 1981 film takes place in a cabin in the woods with five friends unleashing flesh-possessing demons. In the new version, the focus is on Mia, a young woman traveling with her brother and a group of friends to a remote cabin. As Mia struggles with her sobriety, the friends find the Book of the Dead and open a Pandora's box.
In the red-band trailer for the Evil Dead, things get gorier and much less camp than the original one. It's definitely going after the Saw crowd.

As we begin a new week of examining of the possible pros and cons of this fall's award-contending pictures (following "Lincoln," "Flight," "Skyfall" and "Wreck-It Ralph"), it seems like the next natural choice is to go with "Django Unchained," which is sure to be one of the most controversial movies of the season. Quentin Tarantino's films are always talking about, but with his first Western, taking on issues of slavery and revenge, and with a pair of A-listers in Jamie Foxx and Leonardo DiCaprio, "Django Unchained" is sure to be a key point of debate over the coming months. And as if to prove our point, we've got us a fight going on that's a good bit of fun between two writers who are respectively anticipating and dreading the picture. In the red corner! Four-time Academy Award nominee, one-time Academy Award Winner Anthony Hopkins! In the blue corner! You've seen him in everything from "The Hunger Games" to "Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy," but you've never seen him like this... It's Toby Jones! Yes, the battle of the biopics is gearing up, and the favorite is certainly "Hitchcock," which sees Hopkins play the great director in a film set against the making of "Psycho." But while we wait to see if it'll make it to theaters in time for Oscars qualification, the underdog is sneaking up. Jones is no stranger to the biopic face-off after playing Truman Capote in "Infamous," released and ignored a year after "Capote," but this time, it's his take on the iconic figure that's up first. Anyone who saw 2010's Piranha 3D knows director Alexandre Aja's commitment to showing the prehistoric creatures' victims in various forms of undress, something the first trailer for sequel Piranha 3Dd seemed very interested in repeating.
A second trailer followed earlier this month, but now that Dimension has finally scheduled a June 1 release date for Piranha 3Dd, the studio has unveiled a red band trailer for the sequel that is essentially the same as the second trailer, showing the creatures as they make their way into Big Wet waterpark to wreck havoc once more, and showcasing David Hasselhoff's cameo. In the red band trailer, however, it's not the gore that's at the forefront but the nudity, as it takes less than 10 seconds to showcase the more revealing footage.

Last week, viewers were teased with the possibility that the red world (Hannah's world) might be the real one, but Michael spent more time and energy dealing with problems in the green world (Rex's world) on this week's installment of "Awake" (Thu., 10 p.m. Et on NBC). That's because an old case erupted in a bad way in the green world when John Cooper, a man he'd helped arrest and convict for murder, escaped and kidnapped Michael's son.

Until Tuesday, Fox Searchlight had only debuted international and domestic general-release trailers for Shame, Steve McQueen’s erotic drama with the Nc-17 rating. The late Premier League kick-off this afternoon sees Swansea, the club that has kept the joint-most clean sheets this season (5), and is still unbeaten at home (3 Wins, 2 Draws), playing Champions Manchester United. On top of that, Swansea have conceded just the one goal at home, that coming from their own Danny Graham in their 3-1 victory over Bolton. And with a run of fixtures that have seen them take a point at Anfield, a point at Molineux (in a game, let’s be honest, that they should have won) and all three against Bolton, Swansea are certainly not going into this game lacking form or confidence.
On the flip side, Manchester United’s season has not yet managed to reach the heights of the first few weeks. Scoring three against Spurs, eight against Arsenal and five at Bolton seems a distant memory, blurred quite heavily by that game against those noisy neighbours.

Guilty of Romance
Directed by Sion Sono
Japan, 2011
In Guilty of Romance, Sion Sono’s female protagonist, Izumi, is established as submissive. This quality permeates throughout the film and especially in the early scenes, she is presented as a docile and obedient housewife compliant to all of her husband’s desires. Sion Sono exaggerates and extrapolates on this quality, building his narrative around submission, masochism and sadism and one woman’s descent into depravity.
Every morning Izumi wakes up, makes sure her husband’s slippers are in the perfect position for him to slip into without a thought and she prepares a lavish breakfast for him. Before he leaves for his long day of work, he hands him a shoe-horn and kisses him goodbye. He leaves the home and she arranges his slippers once again so that as he merely walks into them at the end of the day when...

You know a horror character has truly achieved iconic status when his likeness has become a staple of Halloween costuming and he gets mainstream musical acts singing songs about him. Freddy Krueger and Jason Voorhees both achieved that status back in the latter half of the 80’s, and they did it with a little help from The Fat Boys and Alice Cooper.
First up, it’s time for Freddy. See, he’s a popular guy. If you don’t know that yet, you’re gonna find out why.
There are those who argue that the undoubtedly corny rap song and music video for “Are You Ready for Freddy?” by The Fat Boys, featuring Robert Englund himself dropping some dope rhymes, was something of a jump the shark moment for Freddy Krueger’s cross over from horror movie villain to bona fide pop culture phenom. It is true that Freddy’s...

Remember all the posters HBO put out for True Blood? The really simple ones, with plain backgrounds that only had some text? They were pretty clever in my opinion, but HBO has finally put their best ads yet for the upcoming season. That’s right, I’m talking about posters with attractive actors and actresses.
The new tag line for the posters is “Show Your True Colors.” Each of the three posters corresponds to one of three colors; red, white and black. Each of the actor/actresses in a poster is wearing the same color clothes as their poster. It’s pretty. Clearly there’s going to be some splitting off with very clear groups forming, at least that’s what I’m getting from these. The meaning behind who is on which poster could be anything. In the red we have Sookie (Anna Paquin), Bill (Stephen Moyer), Eric (Alexander...

In the red corner we have Ranbir Kapoor and in the blue corner is Imran Khan. Both contenders hail from filmi-families, both are roughly the same age, both are friends, both are vying for the same audience… Ranbir and Imran are now due to battle it out at the box office on 9th September, with Ranbir in Imtiaz Ali’s Rockstar and Imran in Aditya Chopra’s Mere Brother Ki Dulhan.
Although Imran had a better start through Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na vs. Ranbir’s Saawariya, so far the odds have been slightly stacked in Ranbir’s favour, as he’s managed to deliver a few more hits (Ajab Prem Ki Gajab Kahani, Raajneeti) than Imran. Ranbir is also leading in the endorsements sector and is the brand ambassador for as many as nine products, versus Imran’s one!

MGM Trades In Chinese Villains For North Korean Ones In The Red Dawn Remake
Although Red Dawn has yet to find a distributor, MGM isn’t letting that stop them from making some minor changes to the 1984 remake. The L.A. Times is reporting that the studio has begun to show the film off to potential distributors. The problem is that the distributors are nervous about becoming associated with the film. They are concerned that doing so would harm their ability to do business with the rising Asian superpower, one of the fastest-growing and potentially most lucrative markets for American movies, not to mention other U.S. products.

Can Cameron Diaz be funny without the F bomb?
What's in a word? When you utter a single word, what does it imply? Well, depends on the word. But for a film like Bad Teacher, a word means everything. Take for instance this new Green Band trailer for the film. Well it's practically identical to the first Red Band trailer, most of the jokes fall flat due to the Green Band not having the crutch of the F-bomb. I wasn't entertained with the first trailer, and the second one is even worse, not strictly because there's no curses, but also because the jokes take a whole new meaning and effect without them. Take for instance the "Sitting on his face" joke. In the red band, it's funny. In the green band, the joke cuts off before she says "face." Now, the joke has no punchline. And a joke without a punchline just doesn't work.

When a film crew started following him around his hometown, Dicky Ecklund believed that they were making a movie about his comeback. Once a promising boxer dubbed "The Pride of Lowell (Massachusetts)" for knocking down Sugar Ray Leonard in a fight, years later he helped train his upstart baby brother Micky Ward to become a great fighter himself. The truth, tragically, revealed that it was actually an HBO Films documentary crew for the series Crack in America, and their whole focus was on Dicky's troubling crack addiction. While the filming had been euphoric for Dicky, his family, and the neighborhood, the subsequent airing of the program caused a blow that resulted in a depressing shame and heartbreak.

In the red annals of horror literature, perhaps no other property has been pillaged more than Bram Stoker’s Dracula, the undisputed grandfather of vampire fiction. With the rights long lapsed into the grey area of quasi-public domain, it seems everyone and their brother has taking a sharp wooden stab at exploiting the exploits of the regal fanged one; certainly, Dracula remains pop culture’s most recognized bogeyman.
