Don't know what woke her up, but it sure wasn't this movie.

Warning: Spoilers
Gabriella (Susan Featherly) is an innocent, naive, young girl living a simple country life with... ah, forget it! She's stupid white trash! She catches her husband cheating on her, so she leaves for LA. She picks up a hitchhiker and has sex with him. When she gets to LA, she becomes a stripper. This catches the attention of some rich guy. She ditches the hitchhiker and goes to live with the rich guy where she achieves her lifelong dream of being a trophy wife. Ten years from now Gabriella will REALLY be awakened when her sugar daddy dumps her for another 20-something bimbo.

Unfortunately, the pain I endured watching this was not adequately offset with hot sex scenes. There are seven sex scenes, two strip scenes, a nude massage scene, and a non-sex girl/girl bath scene. Five of the sex scenes are boy/girl and two are girl/girl. Only four of the sex scenes were decent. Two of them went by too quickly, and the other one consisted almost entirely of the girl's head bouncing up and down on my television screen. The only memorable one was the lesbian scene between Susan and Jeannie Millar.

The women are all beautiful. In addition to Susan and Jeannie, there is also Taimie Hannum and two other women that I didn't recognize. But what's the point of beautiful women if the director just wastes them? This wasn't a total bomb, but could have been much better. Do I recommend this? I think it all comes down to how badly you want to see Jeannie Millar, since she's super hot, but not in much stuff. If that isn't important to you, look elsewhere.

Surprisingly Engaging ( and erotic )
lionlearn12 November 2000
Far too often, movies like this are poorly acted, mean-spirited and just dull. I was surprised how much I was both turned- on and actually INTERESTED. These actors seemed to actually enjoy making this flick. ( Even the women ) There's a whimsical, lightness of spirit in "Awakening" that is SO rare and refreshing. I actually LIKED these people. Personally, I found the movie quite erotic. This is subjective of course. Obviously the plot is pure "Red Shoe" and ridiculous, but isn't the point?

Gabriella should have remained asleep...
AgNail3 January 2000
Just a bad movie. Not erotic, not funny, not worth watching - That's why I fast-forwarded through the last half of the movie. Poor scripting combined with poor acting, save possibly for Mark Ritter. Even though the "rated" version of this movie had extensive editing done to it (to receive an R-rating), I'm not sure it would have been any more worth watching had all the scenes been left in. "Wild Things" was much more erotic. For that matter "Will and Grace" is more erotic than "The Awakening of Gabriella".

Worth seeing for the women
babeulous29 May 2000
This made-for-cable soft-core piece is an excuse to show off some attractive women. If you didn't get enough of Jeannie Millar in the diner scene in _Playboy's Freshman Class_ ('98) you can see more of her here. The simulated sex is pretty fake, and there isn't much of a story. 3/10 for the movie and 10/10 for Jeannie. The rest of the cast is pretty nice, too.

tasteful romantic and sexy film for couples

If you're after hardcore scenes, this is not your film. If you're looking for exceptionally beautiful women and very handsome men looking fabulous in romantically arousing scenes to watch with your loved one, then get this film now. My wife and I loved it. Susan Featherly comes across as gentle, innocent, real and lovely (with one of the most beautiful noses in the world) as the heroine coming to terms with a more sophisticated lifestyle. The leading man is handsome and distinguished. The supporting actresses Taimie Hannum and Jeannie Millar are absolutely stunning. the maid looks ravishing in her uniform and it would have been great to see more of her. Lovely clothes, sets and photography, beautiful people and nice music make for sexy, subtly exciting viewing.

Wide awake while watching this movie
henger-226 January 2001
I have seen this movie on a small local Tv based in Verona, Italy. The movie started at around quarter past midnight and was over at two am. I had to go to work the next day, but I kept on watching. There's much sex in this movie, quite softly displayed though, and I liked the naivete of the characters who think any moment is good to have sex. The plot is not that interesting, the fact that Gabrielle meets a refined man who teaches her good manners is quite ridiculous, but still the beautiful women being displayed in the movie makes it worth watching, even in the middle of the night. In particular, actress Jeannie Millar -who plays a secondary character- is amazing. I mistook her for Tia Carrere, in fact she's Jeannie, a gorgeous woman that we see naked a couple of times during the movie. The scene when she gets out of a swimming pool entirely naked is memorable. I think this movie has not a particular reason to be praised, possibly excepting its struggle to fix in our memory through the usage of often unjustified, naive nudity.

I thought this was great

Warning: Spoilers
I don't usually write reviews but I saw this film and thought it was great unlike the other reviewer who gave it a shocking 1 star! It all depends what you want. Me, personally, I have always loved plot-based softcore (I am steadily moving to plot-based hardcore - I can't believe there is such a thing. Amazing!).

Anyway... this has a good plot. The first scene starts off with Gabriella (the mouth-wateringly gorgeous Susan Featherly) finding that her partner has just cheated. She being the good ol' innocent country girl leaves in the pickup truck, picks up a hitch-hiker, becomes a stripper, meets a client, and along the way finds love with a millionaire. Great softcores build up the scenes to a final showdown. The tension between her and the millionaire finally reaches a climax (soory for the pun) in the final showdown. Trust me, for a softcore film, Ms Featherly shows a great deal.

And, you will not be disappointed if you are a fan of plot-based softcore.
