As Lewis, Venna, and Fuller are driving out to the corn field, Fuller is wearing a blue shirt with a brown jacket. While running through the corn field away from Rusty Nail, however, Fuller is wearing a cop's hat and cop's jacket, obviously from the original ending.
Fuller, Lewis, and Venna are to meet Rusty Nail at the State Line Truck stop, and an establishing shot of the truck stop is shown. However, it's the same exact truck stop Fuller and Lewis stopped at when they first started out on the road trip. They would never see that truck stop again if they are on a one way trip as it is depicted in the movie.
After the teens have the broken tail light on their car fixed, they pull over by a corn field following Rusty Nail's instructions and the tail light is not working again.
When Rusty Nail rams the car against the tree, the driver's side window shatters, leaving only a jagged piece of glass. Later in the scene, the window is restored (yet cracked), then disappears again.
Because of re-shoots, the dates are inconsistent. The insert of Lewis's plane ticket shows he purchased it 12 DEC 99 for a 12 APR (2000) flight, yet when Fuller signs for the release of his effects, he has dated the form "6-6-99".
This is supposed to take place during summer vacation, yet the corn is at harvest height.
[30:22] Fuller tells Lewis that he could have been thrown back in jail for what they did. There's nothing illegal about they did.
[13:10]The dial for USB/AM/LSB is set to USB which means Upper Side Band, but the audio is clearly AM, and truckers never used side-band; they always used AM.
[1:20:20]Rusty Nail dials 911 from a motel room. In motel room phones, you have to dial 9 to get an outside line so he would have to dial 9-911. DIaling 911 would have connected him to room 91 if there even was a room number that high.
No used car dealership would sell a car with a broken taillight or any other problems for that matter. They repair anything wrong with the car before they put it up for sale.
[32:33] When Lewis and Fuller hear Rusty Nail on the radio asking for Black Sheep and Mama's Boy and realize he knows they are behind the prank, Fuller calls Rusty Nail "Russell" on the CB. Although nowhere in the movie/additional scenes/commentary is the name "Russell" mentioned as a name for Rusty Nail, Rusty is a nickname for Russell.
When Venna emerges from the gas station with a hat for Lewis, she is wearing a new blue T-shirt that is long and bunches at the bottom. Later when they are in the bar, it shows Venna wearing the same T-shirt but noticeably shorter. In the commentary of the movie, Leelee Sobieski explains that she changed into a smaller shirt for the later scene.
At the beginning of the movie when Venna and Lewis are talking on the phone she says "freshman year went by fast" indicating it was the end of their freshman year of college. This would mean they are approximately 19 years old. Later in the film, they are drinking in a bar. Although, Paul Walker(Lewis) was 26 & Steve Zahn(Fuller) was 31 at time of filming. Jessica Bowman(Charlotte) was 19 so she was the only one who was underage.
Just before Rusty Nail crashes through the ice truck, the cable used to pull the truck apart can be seen being dragged behind it.
When the ice truck pulls into the convenience store, the rear axle is about 3 feet from the end of the truck, as is usually the case for any kind of box truck. When Rusty Nail drives his truck through it, the axle is pushed to the very end of the trucks frame, presumably to allow Rusty Nails truck to drive through it.
When Fuller and Venna are outside the motel room, Fuller takes her key and uses it to open the lock. When he turns the key, the whole knob turns, indicating that the knob was never locked. (See Goodfellas (1990) for the same mistake.)
Several times, the car's CB aerial can be seen on the opposite side, while at the same time, the car is driving on the wrong side of the road, indicating flipped shots.
When Fuller unscrews the CB from it's mounting bracket he would not have been able to just throw it out the window without first disconnecting the coaxial cable from the rear port.
During the scene where Lewis invites Rusty Nail to the motel, Fuller says "That guy sucks! He totally body checked me on the way out," referring to the rude business man. At the end of the scene, the recording of that line is repeated during a wide shot of the car.
When Lewis and Fuller crash into the tree. The tree moves.
When the Police truck arrives at the motel, you can see the reflection of the camera.
In the climax, a crew member's hand-held two-way radio with red and green lights is sitting on top of an abandoned box/crate Lewis retrieves to rescue Fuller off the fence.
At 32 minutes a crew member walks in front of the camera.
In the scene where Fuller and Lewis walk naked into the truck stop it is supposed to be set in Nebraska. Yet when they are walking into the truck stop you can clearly see mountains in the background.
Table Rock is depicted as being bigger than it is in real life. In reality it is no more than an encampment for oil workers.
When Lewis calls the sheriff's department at the gas station with the ice truck driver he asks for the Rawlins County Sheriff in Table Rock. Table Rock is in Sweetwater County and Rawlins is in Carbon County. There is no Rawlins County in Wyoming.
Much of the radio talk in the middle to latter part of the film is conducted as if it is private. Citizen's Band is not encrypted nor peer-to-peer or point-to-point, essentially a local broadcast. Anyone listening in on the AM channels long enough would be able to work out what threats were being made. A lot of CB users are public spirited and would intervene either by asking after those in the conversation or by reporting what they heard.
[49:59]Charlotte tells Fuller she's going to San Antonio. Fuller even sarcastically asks if San Antonio is on the way to New Jersey. So, it would have been impossible to follow Charlotte, then abduct her, then catch up to Fuller, Lewis, and Vienna.
Rusty Nail would have been very easy for the police or sheriff to find. He was transmitting plenty long enough to track his signal. And when the guys go naked into the truck stop, they even asked for the manager to call the police which he should have done as Rusty Nail was close enough to keep an eye on the place.
