‘Toy Story’s Andy Outgrew His Toys, But He Might’ve Never Escaped the ‘Monster Inc.’s Character That Stalked Him
Image
When approached objectively, a connection between Toy Story and Monsters Inc. may appear improbable. Yet, a deeper look might prove something else. At least, that’s what thousands of fans of the seemingly unconnected animated flicks believe.

Though it has never been officially confirmed, the diehard fans have always believed that Pixar Studios has ingeniously hidden a few Easter eggs in its large canon. One of the most popular among these theories is the existence of the shared Pixar Universe.

Apart from the theory that all beloved movies are set in the same universe, another hypotheses suggest that the eponymous monsters from Monsters Inc. (2001) can teleport. This theory, in turn, gave birth to the idea that the monster scaring Toy Story’s Andy might be none other than the Monstropolis villain, Randall Boggs.

Randall Boggs might be the connecting factor for Toy Story and Monsters Inc.

Pixar, home to several million-dollar-grossing series like The Incredibles,...

10 Amazing Animated Movies That Are As Good As (Or Better Than) Disney Films
Image
When people talk about animated movies, many think of Disney. Disney has released some iconic and popular animated films, from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs to the recently released Moana 2. Through their partnership with Pixar Animations Studios, Disney released more memorable films like Toy Story, Monsters Inc., and Inside Out. Yet, while Disney animated films remain some of the best animated movies, there are many others released by other studios that are just as good as Disney animated movies or better.

With the success of the animated adventure film Flow, which won the Oscar for Best Animated Feature, many are looking at animated movies outside the ones produced by Disney. Over the years, there have been many animated movies from studios like DreamWorks Animation and 20th Century Studios that managed to win over viewers. And while Walt Disney Animation Studios remains the leading studio for animated movies, there...

Monsters, Inc. Reimagined as Horror Movie in Viral Concept Trailer
Image
The animated movie Monsters, Inc. is a family-friendly film, but even so, its plot is not too far away from what could make for an interesting horror movie. That's imagined with a new concept trailer that's capturing some attention on YouTube, depicting much more nightmarish versions of Mike and Sulley.

Per Multiverse of Movies on YouTube, a horror Monsters, Inc. concept trailer was created with the use of AI-generated voices and imagery. It's imagined with Wednesday star Jenna Ortega playing an older version of Boo, the little girl in the original film who's unafraid of the monsters who visit. This version of Boo, however, is haunted by her memories of the monsters she met as a child, culminating with a horrifying reunion. The concept trailer, which has garnered 138K views, can be viewed below.

The real Monsters, Inc. was a Pixar and Disney collaboration which was released in theaters in...

Coco 2 Officially Confirmed By Pixar - Here's Why That's A Bad Idea
Image
Remember when Pixar changed animation forever with the bold, inventive, and otherwise creative "Toy Story?" How about when the studio continued to release original movies that pushed the medium of animation forward while exploring vastly different stories and genres? Sure, there were sequels even in the earlier days, but not only did movies like "Toy Story 2" actually provide something new and different from their predecessors, but they were also balanced out by twice as many original Pixar movies.

Well, say goodbye to the good old days! Pixar, like its parent company Walt Disney Studios, is now all about chasing the mighty and elusive dollar with artistically-dubious sequels that parents will go to movie theaters to see because there is virtually nothing else to entertain kids with at the movies. We already knew Pixar was making not just another "Toy Story" sequel, but also a third "The Incredibles" movie. Now,...

John Goodman ‘Experienced a Hip Injury’ During Alejandro G. Iñárritu’s Tom Cruise Starrer, Production Delayed in U.K.
Image
John Goodman sustained a hip injury during the production of Alejandro González Iñárritu’s latest film starring Tom Cruise, which has delayed filming in the U.K. for Warner Bros, Variety has confirmed.

“Actor John Goodman experienced a hip injury,” a Warner Bros. spokesperson said in a statement. “He received immediate medical attention that led to a brief delay in shooting to allow him time to recover. The production resumes shooting next week following John’s full recovery.”

Variety exclusively reported in October that production for Iñárritu’s untitled project was to kick off in the U.K. in November. The film is the director’s first English-language movie since 2016’s “The Revenant,” which earned Leonardo DiCaprio his first and only Oscar. Iñárritu also serves as producer and penned the script with Sabina Berman and “Birdman” co-writers Nicolas Giacobone and Alexander Dinelaris. Plot details remain under wraps.

John Goodman Injured During Filming Of Warner Bros Movie Starring Tom Cruise; UK Production Paused For Two Days
Image
John Goodman has been injured during the production of Warner Bros and Legendary’s Alejandro González Iñárritu movie, which is filming in the UK.

A Warner Bros Pictures spokesperson told us: “Actor John Goodman experienced a hip injury. He received immediate medical attention that led to a brief delay in shooting to allow him time to recover. The production resumes shooting next week following John’s full recovery.”

We understand Goodman slipped during the past week while blocking a scene at the UK’s Pinewood Studios and was taken to hospital for treatment. We understand it led to filming being stopped for two days. It is described to us by sources as a relatively “minor injury” and the 72-year-old actor is expected back on set Monday.

Critterz | The writers of Paddington In Peru are to work on an AI-generated feature film
Jon Foster
James Lamont and Jon Foster of Paddington In Peru fame are to work on a feature-length, AI-generated family fantasy called Critterz.

Look, we hate to keep banging on about this generative AI thing, but the industry’s decided it’s here to say, seemingly, so we’d best keep reporting about it.

The writers of Paddington In Peru, James Lamont and Jon Foster, are to work on the feature-length version of a film called Critterz. First emerging in 2023 and made by Chad Nelson, Critterz had the distinction of being one of the first animated shorts made using Dall.E – OpenAI’s software which generates images (both moving or otherwise) from pre-existing work on the internet.

The result is a kind of creepy mix of Monsters Inc and Where The Wild Things Are, with an assortment of creatures lurking, glassy-eyed, in a woodland setting. You can watch the whole thing below if you’re so inclined.

Image
Disney has announced the closing date for one of the last opening-day attractions at Animal Kingdom, so here’s when you can see it for the last time!

Since opening in 1998, the Animal Kingdom, like any Disney park, has changed a lot. We’ve seen scores of additions like the Asia and Pandora expansions, new rides, and a big shift being planned, transforming Dinoland USA into an Encanto/Indiana Jones land.

Now, Disney has confirmed the final dates for one of the last Opening Day Dak attractions. Per Wdw’s own site, March 17 will be the final day to catch It’s Tough to Be a Bug at the park.

One of the last Opening Day attractions, It’s Tough to Be a Bug actually predates the Pixar hit A Bug’s Life by six months. The Imagineers always wanted some sort of show for the Tree of Life at Wdw,...

While there are a lot of Disney characters who easily stand out on their own, there are some iconic Disney duos that show how much fun a pair can be. An impressive 100% of our editors and 96% of experts think the standout track “Kiss The Sky” will be nominated come the official announcement on Jan. 17, according to our current combined odds.

At the beginning of the month, “Emilia Pérez” led the category with “El Mal,” but the acclaimed track from the animated movie has been gaining momentum just as awards season kicks into full gear. “Kiss The Sky” is performed by Maren Morris and written by the team of Delacey, Jordan K. Johnson, Stefan Johnson, Morris, Michael Pollack, and Ali Tamposi.

The song is not only a beautiful anthem of self-empowerment and facing fears, but it also serves as one of the emotional high points in a pivotal scene in the film.

Disney Is Replacing A Legendary Theme Park Attraction — But There's One Way To Preserve It Forever
Image
This past August, Disney made plenty of waves at its bi-annual D23 Expo in Anaheim, California. The company announced a ton of plans to add new attractions and lands to the many theme-park resorts it oversees, especially the Disneyland and Walt Disney World resorts in the continental United States. Walt Disney, as some fans like to remind people, always said that Disneyland was not a museum, so change should not only be expected, but it should also be demanded to ensure the parks never remain stagnant. But some attractions seem like they are so immediately perfect, so instantly charming, and so beloved, that to touch them is to risk inflaming the negative passion of fans around the world.

And yet, one of the D23 announcements led to speculation and such passion. When Disney announced the ridiculously long-overdue prospect of a roller-coaster themed to the 2001 Pixar film "Monsters, Inc." at Disney's Hollywood Studios,...

Image
With all the behind-the-scenes makings of an animated classic, Spellbound features a talented voice cast and a can’t-miss creative team for a family movie with a whole lot of heart.

Directed by DreamWorks alum Vicky Jenson, Spellbound marks John Lasseter and Skydance Animation’s follow-up to Luck (2022), after he was ousted from Disney/Pixar following an impressive filmography that included Toy Story (1995), Monsters, Inc. (2001), Finding Nemo (2003), Tangled (2010) and many more. His latest feature, now streaming on Netflix, certainly lives up to that tenure.

In Spellbound, teen princess Ellian of Lumbria wants to spend her days flying griffins around the kingdom with her friends, but for the past year, she’s had to cover for the king (Javier Bardem) and queen (Nicole Kidman) after they were magically transformed into monsters in the Dark Forest of Eternal Darkness. The Best & Worst Sketches Of Bill Burr's SNL Season 50 Episode
Image
Following last week's superb episode of "Saturday Night Live" featuring comedian and former "SNL" writer John Mulaney, showrunner Lorne Michaels decided to stick with seasoned stand-up comedian talent by bringing Bill Burr back to host for a second time. Burr isn't exactly the most versatile performer when it comes to sketch comedy or acting in general, but he can do a few things pretty damn well, especially if it involves being belligerent and from Boston, two things that go hand-in-hand.

While Burr's first time hosting "SNL" in the fall of 2020 wasn't a home run, it had some solid sketches, including a memorable Sam Adams beer commercial parody. Unfortunately, it seems like the wind was really sucked out of the sails of the writers room this week, presumably because of the election results, and this episode felt pretty clunky, landing somewhere between aggressively average and just plain poor.

Plus, Burr had...

Pixar's Canceled Monsters Inc. Sequel Had a Gut-Wrenching Ending
Image
The story details surrounding the canceled Monsters, Inc. 2 suggest that the Pixar movie would have been an absolute tearjerker. Serving as the fourth movie developed by Pixar, Monsters, Inc. debuted in November 2001 before earning over half a billion at the box office. The animated feature film was directed by Pete Docter and David Silverman and featured lead voice roles from John Goodman and Billy Crystal as two monster best friends who work at an energy-producing factory. Based on the success of the film, there were plans for a sequel that evolved into the 2013 prequel, Monsters University.

Monsters, Inc. followed Sulley (Goodman) and Mike (Crystal) as they worked at the titular company that obtained energy from scaring human children. While living in Monstropolis, the pair were led to believe that children were dangerous creatures. That belief changed when a little girl named "Boo" snuck into the monster world. With the help of Mike,...

10 Underrated John Goodman Movies You Probably Haven't Seen
Image
Not every movie starring John Goodman has gotten the recognition it deserves, with many of the actor's best roles being hidden in more obscure titles. John Goodman is a beloved name in Hollywood, boasting a wide range of acting skill and a dizzying number of credits in film and TV. While John Goodman's best movies, like The Big Lebowski, O Brother Where Art Thou?, and Monsters Inc. are highly-celebrated, some of his lesser known appearance deserve more credit, as well.

John Goodman sits at an interesting intersection between Blockbuster star and character actor. Transformers One Reveals The Origin Of A Legendary Hate/Hate Relationship
Image
This post contains spoilers for "Transformers One."

"Transformers One," the fully-animated prequel, has arrived. Set on Cybertron, home planet of these autonomous robots, the movie depicts how Optimus Prime (Chris Hemsworth) and Megatron (Brian Tyree Henry) went from best friends -- and nobodies named Orion Pax and D-16 -- to leading two sides of a galactic civil war. (Read /Film's "Transformers One" review here to find out whether or not it succeeds.)

Even with its brief 104-minute runtime, "Transformers One" shows the beginnings of the other most important conflict in Megatron's life: The one with his future second-in-command, the Decepticons' treacherous Air Commander Starscream.

Starscream's defining quality has always been a desire to overthrow Megatron and supplant him as Decepticon leader. He's too ambitious and egomaniacal to accept serving under someone else, but in the end, he can never surpass Megatron as a warrior or leader. Starscream is so synonymous...

Pixar's $1.4 Billion Trilogy Might Be Their Wildest Movie Franchise Now That I Think About It
Image
Pixar has earned its place as the powerhouse studio in the field of animation, and as such it has seen a lot of success, but one specific trilogy is the studios wildest movie franchise for various reasons. Pixar began its reign in animation in 1995 with Toy Story, the first entirely computer-animated feature film, which marked the beginning of years of high-quality animated movies. Toy Story continues to be Pixars biggest and most successful franchise, but it has also built other, smaller franchises.

Pixar began with a story about talking toys with feelings, and since then, it has explored other fun and unlikely scenarios, such as talking bugs, a world of monsters, rats who are exceptional chefs, and more. At the time of writing, and leaving Toy Story aside, Pixar has five franchises, some bigger than others: Monsters, Inc., Finding Nemo, The Incredibles, Cars, and Inside Out. While they all explore...

Saddest Pixar Moments, Ranked
Image
Spoilers for numerous Pixar films to follow.

For nearly 30 years, going back to its innovative first feature "Toy Story," Pixar has defined excellence in creative and animated storytelling. Its films have been wildly successful at the box office, with "Inside Out 2" recently grossing billions at the box office, and the studio itself has won the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature 11 times. Pixar continues to produce feel-good stories that shape childhoods everywhere; yet, for all their warm and fuzzy moments (such as Woody and Buzz becoming friends or Dory speaking whale), what Pixar movies are really, really good at is making us cry — kids and adults alike. So, since we're feeling masochistic, this list ranks the saddest moments in Pixar films.

Did Pete Docter’s Pixar Gems Help You Face Your Fears? They Did the Same for the Filmmaker
Image
This article is part of IndieWire’s 2000s Week celebration. Click here for a whole lot more.

Pete Docter, Pixar’s chief creative officer and Oscar-winning director of “Up,” “Inside Out,” and “Soul,” first learned to face his fears on his debut, “Monsters, Inc.” (2001), the buddy comedy about monsters coming out of closets to scare kids. Docter’s obvious knack for channeling personal problems into universal stories helped propel the films to both Oscars and staggering box office. It also helped shape Docter as a person, something not unfamiliar to Pixar’s fans.

“When I started on the film, my wife and I had our first kid, and bringing him home was horrifying for me, because obviously kids are appealing and cute and all that, but I was thinking, ‘Oh my gosh, this thing is counting on me and my wife to take care of it,'” Docter told IndieWire during a recent interview.

A Disney Theme Park Expansion May Kill The Final Project Jim Henson Ever Worked On
Image
According to a new article in The Wrap, Walt Disney Imagineering, the engineering team behind the company's theme parks, is currently considering tearing down the Muppet*Vision 3D attraction at Walt Disney World. For those unfamiliar, Muppet*Vision 3D is a theatrical 3D experience that initially debuted at the Disney-mgm Studios (now known as Disney's Hollywood Studios) in Florida. The show falls in line with other "4-d" experiences commonly found at theme parks wherein a 3D short is presented alongside live-action animatronics, smoke effects, bubbles, shaking theater seats, and other in-room "ride" elements. In Muppet*Vision, Kermit the Frog introduces the show, and audiences witness the Muppets gearing up for a big performance. A rogue computer program called Waldo, however, sabotages the night, and wacky destruction ensues. The entire show runs 15 minutes.

Muppet*Vision 3D first opened in May 1991, and was famously the final Muppets-related project worked on by Muppets...

Disney Announces New Monsters Inc. Land Coming to Hollywood Studios
Image
The good news? The long-rumored Monsters, Inc. “door coaster” is finally coming to Walt Disney World.

The bad news? Judging by the concept art, it looks like it’s coming at the expense of the Muppets Courtyard and possibly even the Indiana Jones Stunt Spectacular. So Rip Muppetvision?

And that means Mama Melrose restaurant could become… Harryhausen’s? Who knows.

Disney formally announced the new Monsters, Inc. land was coming to Hollywood Studios via a presentation featuring Billy Crystal.

From the Disney Parks Blog…

Picking up after the events of Pixar Animation Studios’ beloved film, humans have now been invited to visit the world of Monsters, Inc. — and the monsters need laughter to power the city and keep it running smoothly. But it’s not a true visit without the factory itself. You’ll be able to see the sights, hear the laughs and zoom through the building just like James P. Sullivan (a.

Scoot McNairy and Whitney Able in Monsters (2010)
The first-ever “Monsters, Inc.”-themed land is coming to Disney’s Hollywood Studios, part of the Walt Disney World complex outside of Orlando, Florida.

The announcement was made at D23. Billy Crystal, who starred in the original film and its prequel “Monsters University” (as well as the Disney+ series “Monsters at Work”) was on hand for the announcement. “Humans will be in Monstropolis. Did you clear that with Hr?” Crystal joked. Crystal then sang a version of “I Wouldn’t Have Nothing If I Didn’t Have You,” the song from “Monsters, Inc.” (The song garnered a standing ovation from the crowd.)

“In this new land, humans have been invited to Monstropolis. As part of this experience you’re going to tour the Laugh Factory,” Disney Experiences head Josh D’Amaro said.

As part of the land, we’re getting a “Monsters, Inc.” rollercoaster, the first suspended coaster in a Disney park.

There are a couple of movies about making movies out now – MaXXXine sees Mia Goth’s aspiring movie star bag a role in a 1980s horror sequel, while Fly Me To The Moon has Scarlett Johansson and Channing Tatum stage moon-landing footage as a Plan B for NASA in 1969. ‘The Imaginary’ Review: What’s a Pretend Friend to Do When His Human Creator Outgrows Him?
Image
A decade ago, legendary director Hayao Miyazaki retired, sending Studio Ghibli’s team of animators to seek employment elsewhere. Those were dark, uncertain times for the industry, which explains why veteran Ghibli producer Yoshiaki Nishimura picked the word “ponoć” (which means “midnight” in Croatian) for his new studio: He wanted to convey a new dawn for some of the medium’s most talented artists.

No question, the spirit survived in Studio Ponoc’s first feature, “Mary and the Witch’s Flower,” as well as a series of shorts bundled under the title “Modest Heroes.” Anime fans breathed a collective sigh of relief. The magic they’d associated with Studio Ghibli would live on. And then Miyazaki changed his mind and made “The Boy and the Heron”. In an unexpected twist, the artists who’d come up working alongside Miyazaki now found themselves competing with him.

Studio Ponoc’s second feature, “The Imaginary,...
