China and Silk

China & Silk, helmed by director Steve Scott, is an intriguing, if somewhat inconsistent, blend of crime drama and vintage erotica. With a healthy dose of oriental pastiche and over-the-top characters, this film provides an entertaining, if not exactly profound, 88 minutes.

The plot revolves around a drug smuggling operation run by the formidable Lily Chang. Our hero, the no-nonsense Lt. Harry Parker, along with the tough-as-nails veteran Charlie Wells and his rookie partner Mandy Walker, are on the case to bring her down. The story is, of course, merely a vessel for the film's primary focus: sex. And on that front, China & Silk delivers.

The cast is led by the charismatic Harry Reems, who oozes charm and suits up convincingly as the cop on the case. The real draw, however, is the steamy encounters that are sprinkled throughout. While some may argue that the sex scenes are interruptive to the narrative, they are undeniably well-executed and provide a healthy dose of eye candy. The cast has great chemistry, and the erotic scenes are indeed, very erotic!

The acting ranges from serviceable to eyebrow-raising, with moments that blur the line between unintentional comedy and genuine drama. The film's pacing is surprisingly brisk, clocking in at 88 minutes, and it doesn't waste time on unnecessary subplots. The sex scenes are abundant, as expected, but they occasionally interrupt the flow of the investigation. If you're looking for a quirky slice of '80s cinema that combines action, intrigue, and adult entertainment, this might scratch that itch. Just don't expect a masterpiece.
