A black god sends two hit-men to kill earthlings. Unfunny, boring, pathetic and a waste of film. This is the other half of Something Weird's DVD, packaged with the vastly better "Getting into Heaven" Sadly they're both on the same disc (if it was a 2 disc set, I would have recommended you chuck this one out the window)

My Grade: F

DVD Extras: Bonus shorts "Uschi Digart's Bedtime Surprise" "Uschi Digart girl snatcher" and "Doorway to heaven"; Gallery of Exploitation Art; Trailers for "Angels", "the Rubber Gun", "Out of Touch", "the Stewerdesses", "Loving and Laughing", "the Butterfly", " Pigeons", "the Models", and "Together"

A genuinely strange movie

Warning: Spoilers
God (smoothly played by David Bryant) sends two recently deceased mobsters back to Earth to assist deranged cowboy wannabe Tex (a lively portrayal by Vincent Schiavelli) in bumping off controversial video artist Leon DeWilde (likeable Drew Abrams).

Director/co-writer Spencer Compton relates the engrossingly offbeat story at a steady pace, brings an engagingly idiosyncratic sensibility to the quirky premise, makes nice use of various New York City locations, and further spices things up with an amusing sense of oddball humor. Moreover, this kooky flick boasts a few inspired off-the-wall moments which include two bumbling hot angels on roller skates attacking Leon in a park and a Wild West-style showdown between Leon and Tex on empty city streets. Gus Thomas and Dan McCarthy are hilarious as the inept would-be assassins, Marquita Callwood brings plenty of winning sass to her role as hip reporter Lulu, and Keith Berger contributes an expressive turn as Leon's mute assistant Ray. Rob Hahn's bright cinematography provides an attractive sunny look. Olubiji Adetoye's funky score hits the get-down groovy spot. A real curio.

"Angels on the Run"
This film is a superb oddity released by the master of the Exploitation genre Harry Novak.

God needs new help, and the small ad's dont yield up many takers, so he sends down a group to his best to kill and return with fresh Angels and to do it by any means at hand. They use cars, guns and all manner of gadgets to up the roll call "upstairs"

"People Die to become Angels" God says (and god is Black) and he is just helping them along, God in this case is a well dressed and well mannered young man, with a slight sadistic bent. But hey he is God and he can do what he likes, cant he?

A great role by Vincent Schavelli tops of this superb oddity that should not be missed, a highly neglected 70's classic
