The animated special appears to "quote" Mel Brooks' spoof at times: Igor driving the family to the castle and discussing werewolves along the way, and the unpleasant old lady with the funny accent who is the castle caretaker.
Igor is a parody of Ygor, from this sequel. Dr. Frankenstein never had a hunchbacked assistant by that name. As with the "Young Frankenstein" parody, Frankenstein's assistant Fritz has been conflated with Ygor to produce the Igor character.
