Amazon MGM Studios and The Jim Henson Company are teaming to develop a series based on the work of Brian and Wendy Froud.
Brian and Wendy will executive produce the project along with their son, Toby. The Jim Henson Company will also executive produce.
Currently titled “Faerie,” the series is described as a “modern Henson family adventure set in the magical world of Brian & Wendy Froud’s Faeries.”
The official series description states: “When the Faeries kidnap an unsuspecting father, his family must venture into the Faerie realm to rescue him. Through their journey, they will discover their inner strength and unique potential, challenging the expectations that the human world has put upon them. At its core, Faerie is a story of perseverance and the strength of a family’s love, filled with magic, adventure, and self-discovery at every age.”
The Jim Henson Company is repped by UTA.

Peter Segal is set to direct a new film being developed at Disney called Goblins. The project is based on a children’s book called Goblins! A Survival Guide and Fiasco in Four Parts, which was written by Ari Berk and illustrated by Brian Froud. Froud is a Hugo-winning artist who worked as Jim Henson’s conceptual designer on Labyrinth and Dark Crystal.
There’s no word on if the film will be fully animated, live-action, or a combination of both. Tom Astle and Matt Ember are writing the script, and it has the potential to be a great film. After all, who doesn’t like a bunch of crazy nasty goblins running around? Here’s a description of the book:
Anyone who brings home this book will be in big trouble. Renowned artist Brian Froud and scholar Ari Berk have conducted a thorough investigation into the goblin realm. (For the uninformed,...

If you enjoy immersing yourself in the magical realms of Jim Henson’s The Dark Crystal and Labyrinth, then you might be excited to learn that a creature-centric children’s book illustrated by the conceptual and costume designer for both of those films is being adapted by Disney. Goblins, based on the book written by Ari Berk and illustrated by Brian Froud, is set to be helmed by the director of Get Smart.
Deadline reports that Peter Segal is set to direct Goblins for Disney, based on the 2004 book, Goblins! A Survival Guide And Fiasco In Four Parts. Tom Astle and Matt Ember are slated to scribe the kid-friendly creature feature for the big screen, with Ari Berk and Brian Froud executive producing the project.
Time will tell if this new “bring the whole family” movie with a touch of horror can equal the high standards of Laika’s offerings (ParaNorman,...

Did you ever love something and think you were alone? I adore Bloom County. Sure, like everyone else I owned the comic collections for the Far Side, and Calvin and Hobbes, and even Garfield. But I also loved Opus and Bill the Cat and the rest of those crazy kids. So I was excited that Berkeley Breathed decided to show up to his first ever Comic-Con. And he delighted our packed hall with a hysterical slide show, explaining where he gets his ideas, poking fun at himself, and presenting materials that's supposedly going to show up in his forthcoming collection from Idw: Bloom County: The Secret Sex Tapes.
All I care about is that the illustrations on his letters to and from Bill Watterson are in there. I don't want to explain them to you, in case you never get to see them, but let's just say I will never see Blondie the same again.

With the fantasy adventure Labyrinth (now out on Blu-ray), the late Jim Henson (who died in 1990) ushered in a new phase in his career. “We’re talking about another Muppet film, which would be fun to do,” Henson said back in 1986 when this interview was conducted. “And we’ll probably do occasional specials—but I doubt if we’ll ever go back into full-time production with those characters.
“Mostly, Frank [Oz, who puppets Miss Piggy, Fozzie Bear, Animal and others] is such a mainstay of that group of characters, and I certainly don’t see him wanting to return to weekly television. He really enjoys working in films, and from all reports, he’s doing a wonderful job [directing] on Little Shop Of Horrors. At the same time, Frank says he always wants to continue doing the Muppets, too, and so we’ll do that as it fits.”
