According to an obituary shared by the family, Schwieterman died on Friday, Feb. 28, 2025, at Mercy Hospital in Washington, Missouri. The late actor's brother, Chad Schwieterman, announced his sibling's passing in a post on Facebook, including some photos of Schwieterman posing with Chad and other family members. Major news outlets have now begun reporting on the passing, which was revealed by his brother to be from cancer.

Sad news out of Hollywood today, as actor Jan Schwieterman — best known for his work in the 1997 film Good Burger — has passed away at the age of 52.

News of Schwieterman’s passing comes to us courtesy of a social media post from his brother, Chad.

“It is with a heavy heart that I share the passing of my brother, Jan (Jp) Schwieterman,” Chad wrote on Facebook.

According to the grieving family, Jan was diagnosed with “an aggressive form” of cancer, and he passed away shortly thereafter.

“He recently found out he had an aggressive form of stage 4 cancer and passed yesterday evening. Please keep our family in your thoughts and prayers as we navigate this difficult time,” Chad explained in his post.

Jan Patrick Schwieterman, known as J.P. to his family, was born on September 30, 1972, in Bluffton, In. He moved to California after high school to become an actor and in 1994 was cast in an episode of the drama McKenna starring Chad Everett, Eric Close and Jennifer Love Hewitt.

Exclusive: Following a major bidding battle that went through the weekend, Amazon MGM Studios has landed an untitled thriller written by Natalie Krinsky, with Kim Kardashian attached to star and produce. Bruna Papandrea is also producing through her Made Up Stories banner alongside Krinsky.

Viaplay Plans November 1 Launch Date For UK As Premier Sports Deal Closes

Viaplay has confirmed the date for its launch in the UK: November 1. It will offer two packages – a film- and series-focused option focused on Nordic storytelling, including Viaplay Originals and third-party shows, and a ‘Total’ package also including sports, priced at £3.99 (4.50) and £14.99 (17) per month, respectively. The Total package will include Premier Sports content after Viaplay’s acquisition of the UK streamer received Irish media merger control clearance this week. The deal values the Ireland-based, Setanta-owned company at £30M (34M). Premier Sports channels will be rebranded under Viaplay monikers and the Total package will include Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland men’s FIFA World Cup and UEFA Euro Cup games, along with several other sports tournaments. The UK launch takes Viaplay’s footprint to 11 territories, with U.S. and Canada services coming in early 2023.

Bruna Papandrea’s Made Up Stories, the film and TV production company behind “Big Little Lies” and “Nine Perfect Strangers,” among others, is expanding its presence to open a new U.K. office, and it’s tapped “Ticket to Paradise” producer Sarah Harvey to lead the office.

Harvey, who officially joined Made Up Stories in August, will lead the new London location and add to the company’s presence in both Los Angeles and Sydney, Australia.

Harvey is a British producer with over 20 years of experience, and she just produced “Ticket to Paradise” with George Clooney and Julia Roberts for Universal and “Strangers,” the next film from Andrew Haigh that stars Andrew Scott, Paul Mescal, Claire Foy and Jamie Bell for Searchlight. Some of her other credits include co-producing work on “The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel” and “In Bruges.”

The pair have established the London-based producer and have begun developing two documentary projects. They are working on Hitler’s Women: The Forgotten Nazis and Breaking Dad.

Banijay Group has merged two of its Italian non-scripted production outfits, DryMedia and Magnolia Spa, to create Banijay Italia.

Banijay, which is fresh from signing a $2.2 billion deal to acquire Endemol Shine Group, will bring together the two companies under the leadership of DryMedia CEO Fabrizio Ievolella, who becomes Banijay Italia CEO.

Danila Battiglini will be the merged company’s chief production officer, Francesco Lauber is the chief creative officer, and Leopoldo Gasparotto is head of programs.

DryMedia makes local versions of hit international formats including MasterChef and The X Factor, and became part of the Banijay group in 2016.

MTV Studios is reaching back into its past to bring back another fan favorite. This time in the form of stop-motion animation.

The Viacom-owned company announced Wednesday morning it’s working on a reboot of “Celebrity Deathmatch,” the animated series that pitted like-minded celebrities against each other in fights that very often ended in gruesome deaths for one, if not both, of the fighters.

The new version will star Ice Cube, who will also executive- produce alongside his partner Jeff Kwatinetz through his Cube Vision production company. Series creator Eric Fogel will return to executive- produce as well, with additional showrunners and talent to be named shortly. The new version will be available as a weekly series for an exclusive streaming or premium broadcast partner in 2019, with MTV adding the franchise reboot will include consumer products, gaming and theatrical.

Viacom rode Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) and his Imf team to a better-than-expected fourth quarter in terms of both earnings per share and revenue.

The Paramount Pictures parent company unveiled its fourth-quarter and full fiscal year 2018 financials Friday morning, reporting 99 cents of earnings per share (Eps) on $3.485 in revenue. Wall Street had forecast Eps of 95 cents on $3.37 billion in revenue, according to a consensus estimate of 25 media analysts compiled by Yahoo Finance.

That all-in revenue figure was 5 percent better than Q4 2017 and the earnings per share is 29 percent higher. For the full fiscal year, revenues declined 2 percent, but Eps rose 9 percent. Without the benefit of glorious adjustments, that profit instead drops 43 percent.

Get your Advil, coconut water and maybe condoms ready: “MTV Spring Break” is returning in March 2019.

The event, set for March 19-21, will head back to the Grand Oasis Hotel in Cancun, Mexico. It’s all part of the Viacom cable channel’s push into live events, which also saw MTV acquire the SnowGlobe Music Festival on Monday.

“MTV Spring Break” is also a nostalgia play targeting the all-important adults 18-49 demographic. This one follows an announced “reimagining” of the network’s “Real World” franchise. The new take on the show that ushered in reality television is heading to Facebook Watch and will premiere next year.

MTV is also rebooting “The Hills” and bringing back “Undressed.”

Next year’s “Spring Break” will again feature a “signature mix of high-energy performances, surprise celebrity guests, and thousands of young people from around the U.

On the heels of its blockbuster deal for The Real World, MTV Studios today announced plans to reimagine Undressed, another groundbreaking series that explored the complicated dynamics of young adult relationships.

Celebrated for its honest take on gender, class and race, Undressed helped launch the careers of hundreds of young actors and behind the scenes talent, including: Christina Hendricks, Jason Ritter, Max Greenfield, Brandon Routh and Chad Michael Murray, as well as Damon Lindelof (Lost), Lizzy Weiss (Switched at Birth) and Steven S. DeKnight (Buffy the Vampire Slayer).

Roland Joffé, the two-time Oscar nominated director who created and executive produced “Undressed,” is set to Ep the scripted series which is currently in development.

MTV aired more than 200 episodes from 1999 – 2002 of the GLAAD Award winner which was widely praised by fans and critics alike for being one of the only shows at the time to feature gay, lesbian and bisexual characters and same-sex relationships.

In today’s TV News Roundup, Anika Noni Rose is set to star in TNT’s upcoming drama “Beast Mode,” and Fxx announced the premiere date for the last season of “You’re the Worst.”

Ion Television is kicking off its tenth holiday movie season Nov. 25 with the premiere of “Christmas Cupid’s Arrow,” followed by more film screenings each weekend leading up to Christmas day. The lineup, which includes the premieres of “A Wedding for Christmas,” “Rent-an-Elf,” “A Snow White Christmas,” “Country Christmas Album” and “A Christmas in Royal Fashion,” will also feature more than 25 returning favorites in an effort to repeat last year’s record breaking ratings – 2017 viewership averaged more than 887,000 in primetime, ranking Ion as the second most watched network airing holiday movies.

The fifth and final season of “You’re the Worst” is set to premiere Jan. 9 at at 10 p.m. Et/Pt on Fxx.

Anika Noni Rose is stepping into the ring at TNT.

The Good Wife and Power alumna has landed the lead role in Beast Mode, the cable net’s drama pilot inspired by the life of legendary boxer Ann Wolfe.

Rose will star as Marsha Blackstone, a feisty, brilliant-yet-damaged woman with a “kill or be killed” mentality. While these qualities make her an excellent boxing trainer, they tend to cause problems in the rest of her life.

The actress’ TV credits also include The Quad, Bates Motel and Private Practice.

Roland Joffé, the two-time Oscar nominated director who created and executive produced the influential scripted series, which aired 200 episodes from 1999-2002, is set to executive produce the reimagining, which is currently in development.

MTV in June announced the creation of MTV Studios with an initial slate that included a reimagining of MTV’s animated comedy Daria, an update of the unscripted series Made as well as a live-action remake of animated sci-fi series Aeon Flux and a return of the network’s reality series The Real World, largely for digital platforms.

Undressed is now joining the list of signature MTV titles that are being revived by MTV Studios on the heels of the studio’s deal with Facebook for the The Real World re-do.
