Charming rich-girl/poor-boy romantic comedy.
samyanari24 February 2002
Comely Stephenie ("Tap") lives in affluence with her mother Tina Wong (Joyce Chen?) and is driven to college classes. Happy-go-lucky Hong (Daniel Chen), who lives with his taxi-driver/father and kid sister, becomes self-conscious about his social status after he meets Tap. He and his father blunder repeatedly, trying to impress Tap and her mother. Mandarin and English subtitles.

Cute and Funny

I wouldn't say there was anything spectacular with this film, but it has to be said it was pleasurable to watch.

The storyline may seem unoriginal (poor boy meets rich girl, fall in love), but there are amusing moments involving several characters, all of whom have been well thought out and add a lot to the movie. The dialogue, to me, seems to have been well put together

Ultimately, though, the movie is just about above average for this genre. It's simple and sentimental, but in comparison to many movies I've seen, this is a lot more watchable.

A note for those who are looking at buying the DVD. The version I have (from Mei Ah) severely lacks all the functionality of DVDs we expect. There is no extras, and the picture and sound quality is what you would get from VHS. In fact the sound quality is fairly poor: Gigi Leung sings and plays the piano a few times in this film, and the sound does run out of tune. Given that I've heard the songs dozens of times before, it does get very annoying. My recommendation is that unless you find the DVD in a bargain basement, stick to the VHS/VCD.
