In a press conference at the Brussels Fantastic Film Festival 2002, Sir Christopher Lee referred to his performance in this movie as being "by far the best thing I've ever done."
It took seven years for this movie to be released on DVD because there was no distributer. The DVD was finally released on a two-disc set in 2005.
Lee considered this the most important role he had ever done.
Christopher Lee was very proud of this film and believed it to be culturally significant and historically important. However he said there was some negativity towards the film and the cast by a particular Pakistani newspaper owner, who derided the film whilst in production to a point where he labeled it as unpatriotic and blasphemous to Jinnah's legacy. Lee tried to debunk the campaign as did Jinnah's family (who had been consulted during production and approved the script). However the damage had been done and with some ultra-conservative elements of the press choosing to criticize the film (without having seen it) and the casting of Lee ,a non-Muslim, in the lead role, no distributor in that territory would agree to release it for fear of a backlash.
