The Hendry Sisters

I've been hoping to see this movie for forty years. My high school chemistry teacher, Mildred Pile, used to regale us with tales of appearing somewhere in the film with a singing group known as The Hendry Sisters. Clearly she had a great fondness for the era -- even in the early 70s she was still having 1940s clothes styled for her and wore her hair like an Andrews Sister, convinced hers was the very peak of high fashion. As the years went on, the legend grew to the point she began to claim the title actually referred to them. "My sisters were the blonds and I was the redhead," she would sigh. Even at the time, I suspected that was a wild exaggeration but I hope she wasn't completely delusional and they really do appear somewhere in the film, even in the background. If anyone knows where I might locate a copy, please let me know.

Warning: Spoilers
"Ah, nuts and bolts", Jimmy Lloyd tells southern socialite Jean Porter, and he should have bolted as far away as he could from Porter and her two chorus girl pals June Preisser and June Clark. All the J's, and nothing but junk to describe this B Columbia comedy where they go down south to visit Porter's parents and deal with the fact that Her mother thought they were all in college and the fact that her judge father (Douglas Wood) is seeing another woman (Dian Fauntelle) on the sly.

The real problem with this film is that the three young girls are practically interchangeable and are not at all amusing or as funny as they think. They do nothing but sneer in efforts to seem all grown up. Porter gets a very mediocre nightclub number that gave me instant eye roll rather than the desire to applaud. This was filmed obviously on standing sets from A films (probably a Rita Hayworth film), so it looks glamorous on the surface. Bad accents overload on this one, and even the supporting cast Is second rate. I found more amusement from one of Columbia's comedy shorts.
