Eddie Marks, a member of the costume department on such films as The Breakfast Club, The Witches of Eastwick and Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, and the president of the Western Costume Company since 1992, has died. He was 76.
Marks died Monday of natural causes during a visit to Prague, a spokesman for the company told The Hollywood Reporter.
Marks joined Western Costume in 1989 as a vice president and became president three years later. He helped steer the company from a cramped Melrose Avenue warehouse near the Paramount lot to a hangar-sized building on Vanowen Street in North Hollywood in 1990.
Western Costume was founded sometime between 1912 and 1915 and has been among the world’s largest suppliers of costumes ever since. “What makes us stand out from our competitors is that, over the last 30 years, I’ve bought 11 companies that were costume rental companies,” Marks told THR in a 2019 profile of Western Costume.

First things first: I was kindly told not to ask Richard Kelly about any forthcoming projects. It will soon be 14 years since his much-better-than-you-remember The Box, and the writer-director’s cult legend––already considerable by 2009, just eight years since Donnie Darko and two after Southland Tales‘ botched theatrical release (or three from its notorious Cannes debut)––has further bloomed on the basis of what-ifs, almost-weres, the tantalizingly close, and the fear that nothing’s left. But Kelly was perfectly clear he’s working on plenty, just not what, and I wasn’t in any position to disregard wishes of someone who agreed to an interview via Twitter Dm.
Richard Kelly has plenty to say, anyway. If each of his films are much bigger inside than they appear on the surface, three of them offer ample room for conversation and revelation. As we met in New York’s Roxy Hotel, whose...

In the early days of pre-Netflix Black Mirror, there was a thrill (for some of us at least) that came along with easily being able to rattle off one’s favorite episodes.
There were only six at the time so it was easy to gather them all up in your brain and spit them out in the order you preferred.
Now Netflix has stepped in to start mass producing Black Mirror‘s as fast as creator Charlie Brooker can produce them. The episode number (now at 28 with season 6) has become a bit more unwieldy so it’s finally time to put some pen to paper on this bad boy.
What follows is our official list of every Black Mirror episode from worst to best. You will disagree with it because how could you not? Just be sure to let us know how foolish we are in the comments.

The Prime Video series Daisy Jones & The Six referenced several of the 1970s most infamous bars and clubs of the Sunset Strip. One club with a colorful name was an actual bar that named celebrities, including Elvis Presley and Mick Jagger, as patrons. Here’s the history of Filthy McNasty’s.

Jodie Comer is set to make her UK stage debut in the premiere of Suzie Miller’s play Prima Facie.
The Killing Eve star will play Tessa in this one-person play, a young, brilliant barrister who loves to win and has worked her way up from working class origins to be at the top of her game, prosecuting, cross-examining and lighting up the shadows of doubt in any case. One of the first questions I had after seeing Zola was whether or not it was actually Taylour Paige in the pole-dancing scenes. Spoiler alert: that's not a body double, it's really her! Besides giving one of the best performances of her career as the titular character, Paige spent time stripping to prepare for her role in the film. "The movie kept getting pushed back and, being an artist, you have lulls. So I decided I'd strip through the months of August and September," Paige told Popsugar during the film's 2020 Sundance premiere. "I really needed the money, and I was like, 'F*ck it, what better time?' I wanted to go in with that mentality, because it was true."

Tune in and drop out. Seek altered states of reality and a quest for the truth. The era is the 1960s and 1970s. LSD was not just a drug, but a connector to the deeper meaning. Hippie exploitation films are free in style and form, the genre is not a rigorously researched cinephile favorite. In fact, it is a term used mostly by B-movie and grindhouse enthusiasts in internet forums. The cultural revolution of the 1960s fought against social conservatism and war, and the cinema of the time depicted these tensions with films bearing messages of the dangers of revolution and hallucinogens. In its most basic definition, these films live within the realm of the exploitation genre and heavily feature LSD and hippies. The films depict the various trips experienced by characters, on a scale of positive to negative. In the wake of the Manson murders in 1969, the media amplified...

MGM won a heated film rights auction and will partner with black-ish creator Kenya Barris for a movie on iconic comedian Richard Pryor. Barris will make his directorial debut on a film he will write. The producers are Barris and his Khalabo Ink Society, Jennifer Lee Pryor and her Tarnished Angel and Tory Metzger for Levantine Films. Adam Rosenberg and Levantine’s Renee Witt will serve as executive producers.
This comes after the studio acquired rights for a biopic on Sammy Davis Jr.
Hollywood has long been fixated in turning Pryor’s life into a narrative film, which the comic kind of did after lighting himself on fire in a freebasing accident. He includes that in Jo Jo Dancer, Your Life is Calling back in 1986. Ivan Passer, a pioneering filmmaker in the Czech New Wave, a frequent collaborator with the late Milos Forman and the director of the 1981 film “Cutter’s Way,” has died. He was 86.
A friend of the family, Amina Johns, told the Associated Press (via The Washington Post) that Passer died Thursday in Reno, Nevada. Rodney Sumpter, an attorney for Passer, said the director had been dealing with pulmonary issues.
Passer got his start in filmmaking as a co-writer on some of Forman’s films in the ’60s, and he directed his first feature “Intimate Lighting” in 1965. He and Forman were students along with Václav Havel and Jerzy Skolimowski at a boarding school in Prague after WWII. They would later escape Prague to Hollywood just as Russian tanks began invading the region in 1969.

Edd Byrnes, star of the 1950s and ’60s TV hit “77 Sunset Strip” who went on to co-star in the 1978 smash “Grease,” has died, the actor’s son, Logan Byrnes, confirmed Thursday via Facebook. He was 87.
Byrnes died at his home in Santa Monica, according to Logan Byrnes, who is a news anchor for Kusi-tv San Diego.
Byrnes became a comedic sensation as the co-star of the ABC detective drama “77 Sunset Strip,” starring Efrem Zimbalist Jr. as a hip L.A. private detective. Byrnes played Kookie, the parking lot attendant with a habit of running his comb through his slick hair. His character, Gerald Kookson III, introduced a host of early ’60s slang into mainstream primetime culture.
The series was among a slew of slick action-dramas that the fledgling Warner Bros. Television division produced for the Big Three networks in the late 1950s and early ’60s.

Hollywood Vampires: The Birth of Midnight Movies on L.A.'s Sunset Strip is a three-part series of essays by Tim Concannon.Targets: The Lost Midnight MOVIEIn revisiting Peter Bogdanovich’s Targets we’re invited to unearth an archaeology of cult cinema. Targets links the old Hollywood of Schwab's, Chateau Marmont and the Garden of Allah hotel to what, in 1968, was to be the new Hollywood of easy riders and raging bulls. "All the good movies have been made"—Peter Bogdanovich as Sammy Michaels, Targets1968's Targets, is the story of an aging film star played by expat Anglo Indian thespian, Boris Karloff. Karloff's Byron Orlok (named after Count Orlok in Murnau's 1922 Nosferatu) is clearly Karloff playing a grumpier version of himself. As two parallel stories converge in the film's Third Act, the Old Hollywood horror icon Orlok is confronted by a serial killer—gun nut and sniper Bobby Thompson,...

The Handmaid's Tale has returned at full throttle with an engrossing third season premiere, this time giving us a closer look at one creepy and enigmatic Commander Lawrence, played by Bradley Whitford. It's hard to get a read on the guy's intentions. He helps Emily escape after she attacked Aunt Lydia and seems to care about his wife (even if he was the one to put her in this twisted world). But he's also an architect of Gilead and plays a cat and mouse game with June. At this point, he feels more like a threat than an ally. While we don't know much about Lawrence, we do know a thing or two about Whitford, who has sneakily made his ascent into his silver fox era.

It seems we have President Obama to thank—at least partially—for Bruce Springsteen’s recent Broadway show and its subsequent Netflix film version, Springsteen on Broadway. At the streamer’s Fysee opening night on Sunday in Los Angeles, Springsteen recounted how an invitation from the former Potus had been the genesis of the project.
“The whole thing came about as a bit of an accident,” Springsteen said onstage in a conversation with Martin Scorsese following a screening of the film at Raleigh Studios Sunday night. “President Obama, the last couple of weeks he was in office, asked me to come down and play the White House.” Thinking he would read something from his memoir Born to Run, the musician then decided to rewrite a passage as a spoken word piece. “I went down and played about 90 minutes of what would become the Broadway show in the East room,” he said,...

You probably uttered this statement in awe at least a few times, dear readers of The Dirt, when you picked up Motley Crue’s 2001 memoir about their life and times as world-class degenerates. Less a biography than a police rap sheet in book form, it’s the sort of glorious backstage tell-all that makes you feel like you can’t turn the pages fast enough; only Hammer of the Gods can compete with it as the ultimate tale of rock stars outdoing Roman emperors in terms of debauchery.

A long time ago, the words sex, drugs, and rock ‘n’ roll carried a hint of danger. The lifestyle did, too, but I’m talking about the phrase. It used to sound cool (back around the time the word “cool” sounded cool). But sex, drugs, and rock ‘n’ roll has long since passed into the realm of vintage American catch-phrase banality, like “How’s that workin’ out for you?” And “The Dirt,” the new Netflix rock biopic about the sordid, squalid saga of Mötley Crüe, the royal hair-metal sleaze gods of the ’80s and ’90s, is a movie that reflects the new harmless status of that phrase.
“The Dirt” boils over with sex, drugs, and rock ‘n’ roll, whether it’s Vince Neil (Daniel Webber), the snaky leader singer of Mötley Crüe, acting like a horny jackrabbit as he enjoys a backstage boink with every woman who comes near him,...

Spoiler Alert: This review contains details of the movie version of The Dirt
Having taken decades to make it to the screen, you kind of knew any adaptation of Mötley Crüe’s 2001 memoir The Dirt was going to be problematic, to put it politely.
Infamy has a tiring tendency to downgrade over time to just being lame, which truly is the greatest praise one can heap on this Jeff Tremaine directed pic that debuted today on Netflix. Perhaps due from the limited requirements of his past gigs helming the often hilarious but plotless Jackass movies, Tremaine delivers set-ups in The Dirt, but no actual story besides an elongated Behind The Music.
The fact is Nikki Sixx, Tommy Lee, ankylosing spondylitis suffering Mick Mars and Vince Neil deserved better. On board as producers, the battle-scarred bass player, drummer, guitarist and singer have earned a movie that confessionally puts it all out there,...

After two days of poster teases, Sony has dropped a real teaser – a short trailer – for Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time In…Hollywood (note the ellipses that now seem an official part of the title), and nothing in the posters suggested the surprising tone of the video. We’re talking comedy, or at least a surprising lightheartedness. About Hollywood in the Manson era. Even Damon Herriman, as the lunatic killer, smiles and waves at the camera.
Then again, nothing is ever quite what it seems in a Tarantino film. What we can confidently take away from the teaser: Leonardo DiCaprio and Brad Pitt display a loose, best-buddy chemistry as their TV star and stuntman characters, respectively, are interviewed – newsreel-style – discussing what exactly a stunt double does. “Carryin’ his load?” Pitt’s Cliff Booth answers dryly. “Yeah, that’s about right.”

At this point, Cher is more than just a pop star; she’s the one-woman embodiment of the whole gaudy story of pop music. “If we wanna knock people on their asses, then we gotta give ’em a show.” And what a show it was that Mötley Crüe put on — whether one dug the music or not. Welcome to the first trailer for The Dirt, Netflix’s biopic of the L.A. glam metal band based on its best-selling memoir. Check it out above.
It hits all the hits along with the low life of the band some loved to hate, some hated to love and millions just loved.
