Sluggishly paced

Warning: Spoilers
FOX STYLE is a very low budget blaxploitation drama with a generally cheap feel and sluggish pacing. The tale is about a black guy who tries to make it big in the city but who finds his humble origins working against him. The problem with this film is the distinct lack of incident and the inclusion of lots of peripheral characters with long-winded dialogue scenes that don't add anything to the story as a whole. The actors are okay, but the script really isn't. The best thing about it is Barbara Lynn's title music, which echoes the catchiness of something like the Isaac Hayes SHAFT theme.

The rating of 8 is because of....

The way it portrayed black people and white people. The movie was ahead is its time! Whites were respectful to black and vice versa. This movie was a nice break from all the 70's movies with N words and H words. Acting was bad..... very bad! Maybe some of the worst I have seen, but again I'm rating 8 because of what it tried to represent to the audience. That we can all get along without all the racism.

Great Subject Matter Makes a Decent Movie

I agree with a previous review. The acting and technical aspect of the movie was woefully lacking, however, the subject matter was on point and a refreshing change. There are no movies featuring African Americans TODAY that have a positive story and/or matter. In 2019 you cannot find an African American movie with a character positive self image, that is successful (economically), educated, and morally/ethically on point. I also found it refreshing that all the racial crap that you see in movies regarding the past fifty years was totally absent from this movie. If this movie could be re-made with current story lines, it would be a welcomed change.
