Mildly entertaining. More so if you were a part of the NYC. club scene at this time or had aspired to been.
Though the movie starts off at a some what slow-pace, it quickly snowballs into an in-dept look at the New York club scene and it's (behind the scenes) "club wars" & dramas. Knowing the films' two focal points (DJ Junior Vasquez & DJ Danny Tenaglia) personally, I can honestly say that this is no act. This is the kind of stuff that really transpires.. Small-level DJ's that start off as friends, say.., shopping for records together.. Notariety and fame comes into play for each (DJ) in question, and it equals nothing but competition and battles for the top-spot. Hence-forth.., some serious mud-slinging, fighting words. Would these two "artists" actually come to blows, meeting up face to face at the neighborhood bodega ?.. I doubt it. But it makes for good fodder for stationary drug-doing club-utants & die-hard fans of the pairs (or one) of the DJ's in question.. Point-blank.., it's entertaining, show business. Sort of like a Tupaq-Biggie thing, only more sub-cultured. The club patrons are colorful enough or as colorful as possible, in this type of venue; film. The jumping of one character/ storyline to another could be perceived as confusing if you don't pay close attention, or if you're really not interested in the New York club scene or its' inhabitants. Overall, I would say the film is mildly entertaining. Open minded movie-goers would definitely get more out of a film like "Paris Is Burning", which features people from the same scene.., about fifteen years earlier. My only complaint with this film, as writer/performer of the song ("IF MADONNA CALLZ.." by junior vasquez feat. FRANKLIN FUENTES) that this whole movie winds up being about and boils down to, is that I was never mentioned.. As a matter of fact, I think that it would be fare to say that I was erased out of this story all together. This in no way affects my feelings or review of this film. Oh well, it's like the song says, "If Madonna Callz, I'm Not HERE..!" I'm really.., NOT HERE !! PS. At the present time, I'm feverishly looking for a copy of this movie in any format. If anyone know's where (or how) I may acquire a copy of this movie, please contact me at suparok69@yahoo.com
