It’s one of Hollywood’s biggest what-ifs, Martin Scorsese almost helming The Godfather Part II instead of Francis Ford Coppola. At first glance, it sounds like an enticing alternate timeline, two titans of American cinema colliding over the same mythic underworld but if you dig deeper, it becomes clear that the reality we got may have been the best-case scenario.
Francis Ford Coppola’s Fatigue and the Scorsese Suggestion
Back in the early ’70s, Coppola was fresh off surviving the chaotic, pressure-cooked set of The Godfather. Studio battles, shady financing, production headaches, it all left him drained. When discussions for a sequel surfaced, he was hesitant, almost ready to walk and tensions with producer Bob Evans didn’t help either.

The Conners happened out of a second thought when Roseanne makers couldn’t move forward with their planned main series continuation. Roseanne Barr’s racist tweets shut down any plans for the planned eleventh season. However, The Conners did not end up becoming another spin-off of a classic sitcom that fizzled out after a couple of seasons.

The best Daisy Edgar-Jones movies and TV shows highlight just how quickly the star of Twisters, Fresh, and Where the Crawdads Sing has carved out a reputation for playing complex and nuanced characters. Born in London in 1998, Daisy Edgar-Jones found her footing appearing in comedies in dramas in the UK such as Cold Feet, Outnumbered, and Silent Witness. This began to change in 2018 when she led the cast of the indie coming-of-age movie Pond Life - her feature film debut.
From there, Daisy Edgar-Jones found herself taking up central roles in her TV show projects, such as the 2019-2022 adaptation of War of the Worlds, and the 2020 comedy-drama Normal People (for which she was nominated for multiple awards). However, 2022 was the year that her career skyrocketed, with her name gaining significant attention thanks to breakout roles in Fresh and Where The Crawdads Sing. Exclusive: Fran Harris, co-writer on BBC cop show Blue Lights, is developing a Cold Feet-style drama series with backing from Irish pubcaster RTÉ.
Harris has been working on the relationship drama Laura McNicholas, founder of Dublin-based indie 925 Productions, who is here in Rome at Mia Market pitching Yes! to buyers, co-production partners and distributors. RTÉ is aboard alongside Screen Ireland to support development, but the series isn’t yet greenlit.
McNicholas told Deadline it was being set up as an hour-long relationship drama “along the lines of Cold Feet as an ensemble. “There will ideally be multiple storylines and threads we can explore, giving it renewability for many seasons,” she added.
The plot is being billed as a “generational story about self-rediscovery” in which several unhappy college friends who reconnect in their late-30s been look for new venues after hitting crises in their lives, such as being widowed or divorced.

Twisters is a direct follow-up to the classic disaster movie Twister, bringing a new exciting cast of characters. The original movie, released in 1996, featured Bill Paxton as a TV weatherman and Helen Hunt as a tornado hunter. The two come across a series of extremely violent showcases of nature in its most furious state. It was a box office hit, making roughly $500 million out of a $90 million budget.
The sequel aimed at a bolder and more ambitious approach, counting on a baffling $155 million budget to bring the wave of natural disaster movies back. Although Twisters didn't quite match the level of success of the original, it proved to be a genuinely fun summer blockbuster. Directed by Lee Isaac Chung, the film is centered around a new group of storm chasers trying to outrun multiple tornados converging around them. The star-studded cast makes Twisters one of the most memorable 2024 movies so far.

This past week was a huge one for John Mulaney. Sure he got married to Olivia Munn, but most importantly, he was a contestant on a TV game show!
Mulaney appeared on the Jimmy Kimmel-hosted celebrity edition of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?, along with his Oh, Hello co-star Nick Kroll. This season will find all the famous contestants competing as pairs, either because it leads to more fun cross-talk, or because two celebrities have the combined intelligence of one regular person.
One question the duo was asked early on involved Gene Siskel and Roger Ebert, specifically, the title of a recent book about the legendary film critics by Matt Singer, which nods to their “signature gesture.” Some of the options included “Cold Feet” and “Restless Legs.”

Esteemed British writer David Nicholls is not precious when it comes to adaptations of his novels and cites Netflix’s recent adaptation of his 2009 novel One Day as being a perfect example of how being open-minded to fresh ideas on established material can result in good work.
Speaking at Dublin’s first ever screenwriting festival Storyhouse, Nicholls sat down for a lengthy discussion with Room and Normal People director Lenny Abrahamson to discuss his process of writing and adapting material. Nicholls credited the writers and directors of series One Day – writer-creator Nicole Taylor, writer Bijan Sheibani and director Molly Manners, among others – of their ability to adapt One Day for a modern television audience.
“The joy of that was that they were both being very faithful and trying to replicate the feeling of reading the novel while at the same time embellishing and drawing things out,” said Nicholls. “And I...

David Nicholls’ romance One Day has been adapted for the screen for a second time, this time on Netflix: here’s the trailer.
Novelist David Nicholls has had considerable success as a screenwriter, from penning episodes of Cold Feet and BBC dramas The 7:39 and Aftersun to adapting his own novels Starter For Ten and Us.
His most well known novel, One Day, was previously adapted into a 2011 film by Nicholls himself. Directed by Lobe Scherfig, it saw Anne Hathaway and Jim Sturgess take on the central roles of Emma and Dexter, alongside Patricia Clarkson, Ken Stott and Romola Garai. It received middling reviews which particularly criticized Hathaway’s Yorkshire accent.
A new adaptation is heading to Netflix, this time as a limited series. The synopsis reads as follows:
Netflix’s adaptation of One Day tells the story of Emma Morley and Dexter Mayhew who, on July 15th 1988, the night of their graduation,...

In what is likely to be considered a major poach, Sony Pictures Television has hired Mathew Justice — a seasoned U.K. industry vet and currently managing director of the ITV Studios-owned Big Talk — for the newly created role of executive vp, head of U.K. and Europe.

If you love the 1980s – specifically, the neon-lit, Talking Heads-blaring, Delboy swagger of the 1980s Cockney – then Sky’s new crime thriller A Town Called Malice is right up your street.
Meet the Lords
Created by The Sweeney’s Nick Love, this eight-part drama centres on the Lord family, a South London gang whose criminal heyday might be behind them, but who are still up for causing trouble. After a spot of bother with a rival gang (and leaving a policeman for dead), they flee to Spain’s Costa del Sol to lay low, and in amongst the pina coladas and palm trees realise they have a chance to recapture their former glory and become criminal top dogs once more.
The series premiered on Sky Max at 9pm on Thursday 16th March, and the full box-set is already available to watch on Now.

It's a good time to be named Charlie Cox. Netflix's — and now Marvel's — "Daredevil" star is set to lead the next phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe as the blind lawyer with excessive Catholic guilt in "Daredevil: Born Again." With that renewed social currency, Cox is finding a wealth of other stories to tell. Among them is Netflix's upcoming limited series, "Treason," which the United Kingdoms and Ireland branch of the streaming juggernaut's Twitter account revealed the show's release date.
The announcement came bundled with a collection of first-look images showcasing Cox and some of his fellow cast members (more on them later) all looking very serious in suits and bulletproof vests. Considering "Treason" is set to be a spy thriller piece in the same vein as "James Bond" and "The Bourne Identity," the attire seems appropriate.

Margaret Colin has hit the Hallmark jackpot with her first movie for the network, Three Wise Men and a Baby.
If you're a fan, you know she starred as Tom Selleck's girlfriend in Three Men and a Baby, so it's a super fun callback, and her Three Wise Men and a Baby role as the mother to three of Hallmark's top actors, is really fun, too.
Most people will be familiar with Margaret from her many other roles in TV and film. She started in soap operas at 19, starring opposite Oscar-winner Kim Hunter on Edge of Night, starred opposite Jeff Goldblum and Bill Pullman in the blockbuster Independence Day, and more recently had a role on Chicago Med as Carol Conte.
While we connected over Three Wise men and a Baby, I would have been remiss not to get her thoughts on her other work, and Margaret shared her memories freely.

The production designer on Netflix’s Bridgerton prequel Queen Charlotte has been removed from the Shonda Rhimes show due to allegations of bullying behavior on set.
Netflix confirmed to Deadline that David Arrowsmith is no longer working on the show but did not comment on why, after The Sun reported his behavior with colleagues had “crossed the line” and he had been accused of bullying.
Arrowsmith is a veteran production designer, with credits on both sides of the Atlantic for shows such as Whiskey Cavalier, Deadwater Fell and Cold Feet.
Queen Charlotte tells the story of how the young Queen’s marriage to King George sparked both a great love story and a societal shift, creating the Bridgerton world. It will feature the likes of Gold Roshuevel, Adjoin Anode and Ruth Gemmell.
The debate on how to end bullying in the UK business has been boiling for some time now.

Daisy Edgar-Jones has arrived in New York fresh off a trip to Milan Fashion Week. She is as willowy, doe-eyed, and dewy-skinned in person as she appeared in Normal People, the steamy 2020 series that launched the 23-year-old British actor to sudden, global fame. Yet she lets out a peal of laughter at the notion that she might have walked in a fashion show. She was just attending a Gucci event, not hitting the runway.
“I’ve got a bit of a weird walk, actually,” she muses, perched on a sleek...

Ringside Media, the investment arm of Newen-backed indie Ringside Studios, has bought out Lionsgate’s stake in veteran TV executive Steve November’s Further South Productions.
The London and Brighton-based Further South was founded by former Lionsgate executive November, who was previously creative director of the studio’s U.K. TV division. The production company was backed by Lionsgate since its formation in 2019 — though it’s unclear how much of a stake the company had in the business — with Ringside now taking over that backing.
Prior to joining Lionsgate, November was director of drama across all ITV channels with credits including “Marcella,” “Cold Feet,” “Innocent,” “Unforgotten,” “The Durrells,” “Grantchester” and “Victoria.” He was also the executive producer on “Coronation Street” and “Emmerdale” for many years.
“To be joining Ringside in the early days of their development is a fantastic opportunity,” said November. “They have all the knowledge and experience to...

Coming to terrestrial TV, there’s Life After Life and The Three, stories about living multiple versions of the same life, and the miraculous child survivors of a mysterious plane crash.
