Oh God, I love this movie! Although it got a lot of bad reviews I watched this film - and believe me, I wasn´t disappointed in any way!!! "Kai Rabe..." is a brilliant crossover between trash movie and parody on the motion-picture industry. The style is somewhere between Robert Altman´s "Pret-a-porter", Blake Edward´s "S.O.B" or some Tarantino-movies. Too many people made the mistake to equate it with Thomas Jahn´s previous film, the brilliant "Knockin on Heaven´s Door", which is more a drama or a road movie and can´t be compared to a satirical comedy like this one. Watch "Kai Rabe vs. the Vatican killers" as an independent movie and you will love it! The cast is great: there are a lot of fabulous German actors and comedy stars in, and you´ll even find many cameo appearances of celebrities from the show business. And with Brion James they´ve casted an international actor for a little supporting role. The Mexican rock´n rollers "Tito & Tarantula" composed the soundtrack for a film, which is full of allusions and insider gags. Some of them are pretty macabre, other ones are pure slapstick. But believe me, this film is sooooooo entertaining, you won´t bore a second!!! It is definite, that "Kai Rabe gegen die Vatikankiller" is one of the best German films of the 90s! It is even one of a few movies, next to "Lola rennt", which deserve the predicate "Kult made in Germany"!!! (9/10)

While Knocking on Heaven's Door had a bunch of too serious moments trying to supply the movie with emotions, this second Thomas Jahn movie is an absolute pleasure because it's almost a parody. Every character is rotten, either a drunkard or a sex maniac. Nobody at the imaginary film set is talented but There's No Business Like Show Business, and it's all about the money.

Many surprising and ironic cameos of German TV and movie stars, many, many dead bodies and a lot of blood make this film (whose story is completely irrelevant) a very cool piece of trash. I wouldn't have been surprised if Leslie Nielsen had appeared. Kai Rabe is maybe the first (or just the best) German horror film parody.

Best German (black) comedy 1998

Compared to the last years, the German comedy was very quiet and almost hidden this year. But this one breaks it. A good laugh. A cool soundtrack (includes classic to 50'ies pop to "Tito & Tarantula") and the cast is a German who-is-who but (luckily) without Til Schweiger & Katja Riemann. If you like a laugh, watch this movie!
