Some of The Beatles‘ songs are just plain weird. For example, one Beatles song is less than a minute long. Another is basically one line repeated over and over for several minutes.
The Beatles | Michael Ochs Archives / Handout 5. ‘Revolution 9’
“Revolution 9” might seem totally random. The book Lennon on Lennon: Conversations with John Lennon includes an interview from 1968. In it, someone asked John if “Revolution 9” is about death.
“It’s about death,” he said. “Well, listen to it on another day. In the sun. Outside. And see if it’s about death then. It’s about everything. I mean, it’s not specifically about anything. It’s a set of sounds like walking down the street is a set of sounds. And I just captured a moment of time, put it on disc, and it’s about that.”
Subsequently, John was asked if the track was about revolution. “Yeah, you know,...

Host/comedian Bennett Arron introduced the McBain quartet to kick off the evening with a classical rendition of the Mission: Impossible theme before magician Nick Einhorn performed film related tricks involving audience participation, mobile phones and the power of deduction.
Main festival guest, director John McTiernan was then re-introduced for a session entitled “Anatomy of a scene” during which he discussed, with Ian Nathan and director Corin Hardy, the sequence from Dr. Strangelove which sees Slim Pickens’ Major “King” Kong repair a malfunctioned missile before it’s accidentally dispatched with him straddling it.
Surprise guest Edgar Wright then turned up to dissect the bar fight sequence from The World’s End where Simon Pegg tries to salvage his pint while fighting aliens.

Billie Eilish’s nomination for the new James Bond theme, “No Time to Die,” breaks with long-held Grammy precedent: it appears to be the first nominated in the “best song written for visual media” category for a movie that won’t open for months.
The song was released during the 2019-2020 eligibility period, on Feb. 13, in anticipation of an April release of the movie. But the Covid-19 pandemic forced a delay to November, then another to April 2021, so the Eilish song is out there but no one has seen the movie for which it was written.
Eilish is co-credited with her brother Finneas O’Connell for the title song, which peaked at No. 16 on the Billboard charts in America and debuted at No. 1 in Great Britain. They released a video (directed by veteran Bond title designer Daniel Kleinman) on Oct. 1, just before the film’s release got bumped again.

The Daniel Craig era of James Bond movies has featured a pretty interesting collection of the theme songs, including Chris Cornell’s “You Know My Name,” Alicia Keys and Jack White’s “Another Way to Die,” and Sam Smith’s “Writing’s on the Wall,” which somehow beat out Radiohead’s dreamy “Spectre” in 2015. And then there’s “Skyfall,” by Adele, which many consider to be the best of the bunch.
To cap Craig’s time as Bond, Eon Productions has tapped the very talented Billie Eilish to perform the theme for No Time to Die. The song, which is titled after the movie, is a moody ballad about love lost, accompanied by familiar musical cues from James Bond’s main theme.
Ahead of the movie’s release in November, Eilish has released a music video for the theme song, which you can watch below:

As the world fights a pandemic, we’ve been reaching out to some of our favorite artists to get their takes on these unprecedented times. Here’s what Melvins singer-guitarist Buzz Osborne — who’s readying Gift of Sacrifice, an excellent new acoustic disc with Mr. Bungle and Tomahawk bassist Trevor Dunn — had to say in response to a few quarantine questions via email. (Osborne and Dunn’s May tour dates in support of the album have been canceled, but as of press time, the June and July shows are still on.

The next James Bond song is here with Billie Eilish offering a haunting vision of “No Time to Die.”
Writing and/or performing the next James Bond song is always a herculean task for any artist. On the one hand, some of the finest tunes songs ever composed for film are associated with this franchise—Shirley Bassey’s rendition of “Goldfinger,” Paul McCartney and Wings’ “Live and Let Die,” Carly Simon’s “Nobody Does It Better”—and on the other, there’s a laundry list of failures, some to an iconic degree—Madonna’s “Die Another Day” says hi. So recent musical sensation Billie Eilish and brother Finneas O’Connell were always setting themselves up to climb a mountain on No Time to Die.
And now we can at least hear the winds up there, even if we haven’t seen the vista in its final form. Indeed,...

The “No Time to Die” theme song from 18-year-old singer-songwriter Billie Eilish dropped on Thursday, co-written and produced by her brother, Finneas O’Connell. Fittingly, it’s a haunting ballad that bids farewell to Daniel Craig’s fifth and final outing as James Bond. Listen below.
Eilish, who swept the Grammys this year and who sang the “Yesterday” “In Memoriam” tribute at the Oscars on Sunday, is the youngest person to record a theme song for a Bond movie. Her song follows the back-to-back Oscar winners, “Writing’s on the Wall” (“Spectre”) from Sam Smith (co-written by Jimmy Napes), and the eponymous “Skyfall” from Adele (co-written by Paul Epworth). The other two Bond songs from the Craig era are the rockers “Another Way to Die” (“Quantum of Solace”) from Jack White & Alicia Keys, and “You Know My Name” (“Casino Royale”) from the late Chris Cornell.

Could David Arnold return as composer to the James Bond series?
It was the obvious question to pose while he was talking about Amazon’s new “Good Omens” miniseries, for which he has composed the elaborate score.
“It’s a no-news situation,” Arnold told Variety about 007. “I’ve heard nothing. But my pencil is always sharpened for him if James comes around again. But if he doesn’t, I’ll be as excited to watch the new film as anyone else. I still love him, and I love all of the team over there.”
Arnold composed the scores for five consecutive Bond films: three with Pierce Brosnan and two starring Daniel Craig.
With singer Chris Cornell, he co-wrote “You Know My Name,” the theme song for “Casino Royale,” and earned a Grammy nomination for it; he also received a BAFTA nomination for that score.

In composing the score for “Good Omens,” David Arnold asked himself, “What would happen if Walt Disney was possessed by Satan?” That seemed appropriate for this long-awaited TV adaptation of Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett‘s fantasy novel about an angel (Michael Sheen) and a demon (David Tennant) teaming up to prevent Armageddon. Watch our exclusive video interview with Arnold above.

That initial concept came from a scene where Tennant tries to get the young Antichrist to fall asleep. “He does it by singing him very sweetly a song about [how] when the world is destroyed, he’ll be in charge of it and humanity will be wrought of blood and guts,” Arnold explains. It was “the opposite of what you would sing to a child in that situation,” but he wrote it as if it were “the sort of thing that...

Brad Pitt and Peter Berg’s Film 45 will document the late Soundgarden and Audioslave frontman.
"Cry, if you want to cry," Chris Cornell sang on the song "My Wave." Brad Pitt and Peter Berg’s production company Film 45 will help you see and clear your eyes in a documentary about the late frontman and songwriter for Soundgarden, Audioslave and Temple of the Dog, according to Variety. Cornell’s widow, Vicky Cornell, will participate as a producer. Paramount recently yanked Pitt's World War Z 2, which he hoped to make with Fight Club director David Fincher, from its production schedule. Berg will direct the as-yet-untitled movie. No other details of the Chris Cornell documentary have been announced.
Cornell died on May 18, 2017, a few hours after a Soundgarden show at Detroit's Fox Theater. His death was ruled a suicide. An autopsy revealed painkillers and anti-anxiety medication in Cornell's bloodstream.

Chris Cornell, lead singer of Soundgarden, tragically committed suicide after playing a show in Detroit, Michigan at the Fox Theater according to The Independent. As a member of Soundgarden, he helped usher along an era of music that helped rid the music world of some of the pretensions and phoniness the music industry and built at that particular time. With his work in Soundgarden, Temple Of The Dog, and Audioslave, his legacy in the music industry will never be forgotten.
One aspect of his career that doesn't get much publicity is his work in film. With music in such films as Singles, Wayne's World, and Benny and June, his music helped fill the soundtrack of the movies of the 90's. One song he did, You Know My Name, helped usher in the modern era of James Bond as the lead in for Casino Royale.
The song itself is an underrated Bond movie classic theme.

The quality of the theme songs for Daniel Craig's run of the Bond films has pretty much matched the films themselves - Chris Cornell's "You Know My Name" and Adele's "Skyfall" are both excellent themes, and the sonic stillbirth that was Jack White and Alicia Keys' "Another Way To Die" is best left to the incinerators of history.
Sam Smith's "Writing's on the Wall" was immediately dismissed at the outset, but it actually grows on you. It never reaches the two previous triumphs, though ultimately it is a fine song if a strange one for a Bond theme. Well it turns out Smith wasn't the only artist commissioned to do a Bond theme.
Radiohead, Lana Del Rey and Ellie Goulding were all previously linked at one point or another as possibilties, and it turns out Radiohead did in fact write and record a tune that wasn't actually used.

Sam Smith's theme song for the 24th James Bond film "Spectre" has been released in full.
The track, "The Writing's On The Wall," is a ballad like Adele's "Skyfall" but takes on a different tone - swapping a soft melancholy in place of Adele's fire.
Smith's voice is strong, especially during the falsetto chorus bits which are the highlights, while the brassy and string-heavy music is very Bond.
But the lyrics are oddly unmemorable and the overall song lacks the power of "Skyfall" or Chris Cornell's "You Know My Name". It's a fine song on its own right, but a strong Bond song? At first listen not really, but it does improve with repeated listens. It's also worth noting that the film's opening credits could well use a different arrangement.

Some of the most memorable characters in movie history are antagonists. Here are our picks for the franchises that have make the biggest impression based on their villains alone.
A great antagonist in a film can make the effort of the protagonist seem more important. The hero’s plight becomes elevated to have meaning beyond just simple entertainment. It is those struggles that define some of the best movies ever made, and give the audience something to really cheer about.

Courtney Love and Lana Del Rey: a match made in heaven? The '90s grunge queen and somber alt-pop sensation will hit the road together beginning in May as part of Del Rey's "Endless Summer Tour," the singers announced Monday. Love will appear during the first half of the North American run, which kicks off May 7 in The Woodlands, Texas. Love previously teased a collaboration between the two on Twitter, stating: "See you in London in ten hours @LanaDelRey we are going to own that town xxc #excitingnews2come." It's an interesting collaboration, not least because Del Rey raised the ire of Frances Bean Cobain - Love's daughter with late grunge superstar Kurt Cobain - over comments she made in a recent Guardian interview that seemed to glorify early death. The rock progeny responded by tweeting (among other things): “@Lana Del Rey the death of young musicians isn’t something to romanticize…...

The producers of the James Bond franchise have had a good run with the Bond theme tunes during the Daniel Craig era. Adele's "Skyfall" and Chris Cornell's "You Know My Name" were both well-received, with Adele's tune also becoming both a bestseller and an Oscar winner.
It hasn't been a perfect run though, sandwiched in between is Jack White and Alicia Keys' cat orgy anthem "Another Way to Die," while Pierce Brosnan's final outing also boasted a forgettable Madonna dance track.
Pressure is considerable then on whomever will take up the job for the upcoming twenty-fourth film in the series, and now a source for the New York Post claims that British soul singer-songwriter Sam Smith has been selected to sing the next Bond theme.

As one of the most outrageous personalities in entertainment, Courtney has achieved iconic status with her onstage theatrics, notorious antics and distinctive musical style. As frontperson of grunge band Hole and as a solo artist, she has experimented with a range of styles,...

Jason Aldean's tired of the haters! The "Burnin' It Down" singer posted a cute picture with girlfriend Brittany Kerr on Sunday via Instagram, as he and the blonde beauty posed with her favorite pup. "A little surprise for my girl @brittanylkerr tonight. Her favorite pooch @manny_the_frenchie came to my show in Chi-Town tonite. #loveubaby #surprise," he captioned the cute candid. But Aldean's fans quickly started bashing the country crooner and the "American Idol" alum in the comment section of the photo. Two years ago, the "She's Country" singer was caught kissing Kerr at a bar in West Hollywood ... while Jason was still married to his now ex-wife Jessica Ussery. Aldean followed up the photo with another picture that read, "You know my name, not my story. You've heard what I've done, not what I've been through." "So sick of people judging me and @brittanylkerr over things they know nothing about.

Jason Aldean has Brittany Kerr's back. Two years after the country singer was photographed kissing the former American Idol contestant—while still married to Jessica Ussery, the mother of his two children—Aldean posted a picture of himself posing with his mistress-turned-girlfriend on Instagram Sunday. Commenters slammed Aldean and Kerr for their affair, and it didn't take long for Aldean to respond. He uploaded a second Instagram image featuring the words, "You know my name, not my story. You've heard what I've done, not what I've been through." In the caption, the "Burnin' It Down" singer wrote, "So sick of people judging me and @brittanylkerr over things they...

Jason Aldean defended his relationship with his mistress turned girlfriend Brittany Kerr after a photo of the couple posted on his official Instagram received hateful comments from fans.
Jason Aldean Defends Relationship With Brittany Kerr
On Sunday, Aug. 10, country star Aldean shared the controversial photo, featuring Kerr, a French bulldog and himself before his Chicago concert.
The photo, which is not the first time Aldean and Kerr have publicly confirmed their relationship, drew anger from fans still disturbed by Aldean’s extra-marital fling with Kerr in 2012, when he was still married to his ex-wife.
After seeing the backlash, Aldean took to Instagram once more to defend himself and Kerr with a photo that reads, “You know my name, not my story. You’ve heard what I’ve done, not what I’ve been through.”
In the caption, Aldean wrote that he was “so sick of people judging me and [Britanny Kerr],” and...

Jason Aldean is tired of hearing the same old tune. It's been almost two years since the country singer was spotted getting cozy with another woman while still married - and he says it's about time everyone move on from the drama. After posting a snapshot of his now girlfriend, Brittany Kerr, with whom he was photographed in 2012, on Instagram Sunday, Aldean's followers unleashed their fury in the comments. And before long, the father of two, who filed for divorce from wife Jessica Ussery in 2013, came to Kerr's defense with a second Instagram of the words, "You know my name,...

Many fans of Eli Roth and werewolves are familiar with the Netflix original series, Hemlock Grove. But before the creature of the night stalked the residents of the small Pennsylvania town on film, it was raising hell on the printed page. Published by Fsg Originals, author Brian McGreevy’s Hemlock Grove: A Novel is the source of all the monster mayhem of the show, and with the second season of Hemlock Grove set to premiere this Friday, we’ve been provided with an excerpt from the book.
“An exhilarating reinvention of the gothic novel, inspired by the iconic characters of our greatest myths and nightmares. Now a hit television series on Netflix.
The Monster is Within

It's never good when the first thing your gown reminds people of is the biggest hot mess in the Les Misérables cast... Courtney Love may have gone for over-the-top 1800's glam, but she landed somewhere closer to the character Helena Bonham Carter recently revived on screen. The "You Know My Name" singer's signature Vivienne Westwood corset dress may be made of a far finer fabric, but it's way too boobalicious to be anything but a costume! Yes, that deep navy color is absolutely stunning, and we do love the classic shape created by that super cinched waist. In fact, if her girls were just a bit more guarded, this might be an edgy but interesting look. Instead, it's like the gown...

One of the things that excites me most about a new James Bond film is finding out who is going to sing the title theme. The past twenty-three Bond themes read like a who’s who of the music industry from classy crooners like Matt Monroe and Tom Jones to eighties boy bands, Duran Duran and A-ha. Not to mention pop queens like Shirley Bassey, Tina Turner and Madonna, who have all taken a shot at belting out an iconic opening track (or several in Dame Shirley’s case).
If the above artists demonstrate anything, it is that recording a Bond theme is anyone’s game. So here are five artists that deserve a shot at adding to Bond’s fifty year legacy by recording one of 007′s title themes.

The harbingers of doom.
Carnage, I tell you. Absolute carnage.
By the time the nominees for the 85th annual Academy Awards were revealed, the overwhelming buzz coming out of nomination morning was not about who was included, but who was left off the list.
Because there were so many names left off.
Usually, you can count on one or two well regarded names missing out on an Oscar nomination. It’s just the way it goes when there are only five nominees in most categories. Some people get left behind. But this year represents a high water mark in the number of heavily favored, big name individuals whose names were not called… the supposed locks that weren’t locked in at all. A whole swath of expectations crashed and burned.
Talk about a bloodbath.

Well, I think we can all agree that Adele’s Let The Sky Fall is a wonderful opening track for Skyfall- it’s a really return to the bond themes of old, and if the opening song is that good, it fares well for the actual film that entails (although this has not always been the case- Thunderball, The Spy Who Loved Me, A View To A Kill…).
But with the Bond machine back on track and Danny boy signed for 2 more films, we can expect Bond 24 sooner rather than later. So let’s look ahead and I’ll suggest 10 artists to potentially take on the next opening tune.
10. Michael Buble
Some people have gone off Buble’s work of late, but I thinking he’s still very charming with a marvellous voice. He’d been an interesting male voice, something we haven’t had since You Know My Name...

The ordinary girl capable of extraordinary feeling has returned the 007 song to its dangerous basics
It has been the worst-kept secret in pop. But the sheer obviousness of Adele being the right candidate for the Bond theme – that big voice for international audiences to swoon to – sits at odds with the themes we've had in recent years. They have been jagged, awkward things: Jack White and Alicia Keys' Another Way To Die; Chris Cornell's You Know My Name. It's as if they've tried to match Daniel Craig's craggy toughness with earthier sounds. Sadly, those tunes were too forgettable to get any pistols firing.
So back to basics it is, and the easier promise of a ballad-blasting female. But a 90-second clip of Skyfall released online on Tuesday suggests a slightly softer Adele: not the Rolling In The Deep singer who could rival Shirley Bassey for lung power.

Not long ago, we got the news that Adele had officially been chosen to perform the theme to the upcoming James Bond film Skyfall. Reactions were a bit mixed with some loving the idea of her voice put to a Bond song, while the very same idea caused some hesitation for others. Admittedly, I was a bit skeptical at the notion, but after today, that has changed.
Thanks to The Film Stage, we have a 90-second preview of her Bond theme and the results are sounding quite good. It harkens back to the old school themes, sounding rather different from what we’ve been getting lately.
With the last two Bond themes, it’s been a mixed bag. Chris Cornell’s “You Know My Name” is one of the best themes of the franchise, while Jack White’s “Another Way to Die” was rather forgettable. Hopefully Adele will deliver something...

Sony Pictures has released two more humorous film clips from Men in Black 3. I'm expecting the Barry Sonnenfeld-directed movie to be just as fun and entertaining as the first film, and I'm looking forward to revisiting these fun characters all these years later.
Cell Phone - Featuring Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones. The scene give us the real explanation of why we should turn off our cell phones on airplanes.
How Do You Know My Name - Featuring Alice Eve as the young Agent O, Will Smith as Agent J, and Josh Brolin as Agent K. The scene features Agent J meeting the young Agent O and Agent K for the first time.

Hollywoodnews.com: Sitting backstage in the green room for last month’s Hollywood Film Awards gala, a steady stream of actors, producers, screenwriters and directors waited patiently to tell Berenice Bejo how much they loved her new film, “The Artist.”
The charming, gracious beauty smiled and thanked Emma Stone, Viola Davis, Shailene Woodley and others as they heaped praise on Bejo and her delightful silent film. The kudos are expected to continue all Oscar season long. In “The Artist,” she plays a charismatic up-and-coming actress on a meteoric rise through the Hollywood stratosphere. Not coincidentally, Michel Hazanavicius’ Oscar contender is turning this talented beauty into an overnight sensation.
I was lucky enough to interview Bejo about “The Artist,” her director (who also happens to be her husband), the film’s Oscar chances and her most memorable celebrity encounter. Here’s Berenice Bejo:

I love Adele. Her songs “Rolling in the Deep” and “Turning Tables” are constantly on my iPod. It seems that Adele could be writing and performing a new song and that might be for the new James Bond movie. She recently appeared on British talk show The Jonathan Ross Show this past weekend and in a way without saying much let the cat out of the bag. During the interview she said:
I’m going back in the studio in November, fingers crossed. But not to record an album. This is actually a theme, what I’ve got to do. Wow, I’m really giving something away … It’s one song.
Ross then went ahead and mumbled the James Bond theme, Adele gave him a look and then cracked a laugh looking like she was hiding something, but wasn’t going to say. Check out the video below, the conversation...

Sam Worthington is reading a name off his list of interviews. "It's Mathieu, right?" With his thick Australian accent, he struggles through the French pronunciation.
It’s a Saturday morning in late September and the 34-year-old actor is in Toronto for Gala Presentations of two of his films at the Toronto International Film Festival: The Debt and Last Night, both of which are expected to hit theatres in the next year. He looks relaxed in jeans and a washed-out, grey Pearl Jam T-shirt. And he insists on pronouncing my name right before he takes a seat.
"When I do interviews, I always ask for the name of the person in front of me," he says. "It's the same thing when people take a picture with me. It's out of consideration for everyone else. You know my name, now I know your name. So if we do a photo, we kind of know each other,...

With Sam Mendes set to direct the twenty-third James Bond movie, Ti puts together his wishlist for the new 007 adventure.
So, MGM are out of their financial straits and Sam Mendes is, if his ex-wife is to be believed, still on board to direct the next James Bond film, due in 2012. So, with mixed reviews for Bond's last adventure, Quantum Of Solace, what do we want to see in the new film?

Jason Schwartzman has been on a role recently with great reviews in some great projects – Funny People, Bored To Death and now, Wes Anderson’s new film, The Fantastic Mr. Fox.
In this exclusive interview, he talks about playing a 12 year old fox, working with Bill Murray, George Clooney and Meryl Streep and his favorite scene in the film (which totally make me want to see it even more).

I'll admit, when I first heard the new "Quantum of Solace" theme song from Jack White and Alicia Keys... I was very skeptical. Bond themes are memorable and always set the tone for the upcoming film. I remember feeling the same way with "You Know My Name" from Chris Cornell for "Casino Royale". After first hearing that song, it was very hard for me to wrap my head around how it would fit into a Bond film. But, to say it was 'dead on perfect' would be an understatement! The song fit the intro credits and animations to as if the movie was written around the theme song! So, I opened up my mind a bit, and remembered how brilliant Bond films are about making their theme song and credit sequences so exciting and perfect, almost a movie within a movie. I gave "Another Way to Die" another shot, several actually.

Here it is, ladies and gentlemen, “Another Way To Die”. Just scant days after the Coke Zero reveal, here’s the full song, words and all:
Well… what to say? Anyone floored by its power? Anyone think it’s the most forgettable song since Thunderball? Personally, it’s pretty goddamned awful, but then again, I did hate Chris Cornell’s “You Know My Name” the first time and that’s now on my iPod.
Why does it sound so much like a shit R’n'b track with guitars? Why?
