Check the telephone technology.
jvance-566-2040316 September 2018
This was supposed to have happened in 1947 but the coiled telephone cord didn't come into common use until the late 1950s. Cinema anachronisms, ya gotta love 'em. Pretty decent special effects though.

Engaging little documentary
Leofwine_draca27 September 2017
Warning: Spoilers
ALIEN AUTOPSY: (FACT OR FICTION?) is a short documentary designed to ride the wave of interest in UFOlogy and government cover-ups that appeared in the 1990s, fuelled by the success of THE X-FILES on television. STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION's Jonathan Frakes makes for a genial host, discussing the appearance of the infamous 'alien autopsy' footage and attracting comment from a wealth of UFO nuts, military experts, and people who were in Roswell in 1947 when the infamous saucer landing supposedly happened. The re-released documentary features the full autopsy footage tacked on at the end. Personally, I really don't think it's real at all, but this is an engaging little documentary regardless.

It's a hoax
sdc10024 October 2006
Warning: Spoilers
I don't have much to say except that the producers have admitted that the film is pretty much a hoax, or a "recreation." (see Wiki link below) They still claim that it's based on real degraded footage that they had seen. Yeah, right. Too bad they couldn't be punished for the hoax. Perhaps TV stations can sue them for fraud. Then again, sensationalistic outfits like FOX got their ratings so they can't complain. In fact, FOX exploited the situation by airing a follow up special purporting to expose the hoax.

Worse, the film's producers just released a comedy based on their hoax. Looks like fooling people once wasn't enough. I hope people boycott it.

I'd love to see follow up interviews with the "experts" who claimed that the footage was real because it was so hard to fake.

Old News but an update for one reviewer....
abdiver7 March 2012
Warning: Spoilers
This is for the person who posted this: "Despite all of the people putting this film down as a hoax, they still haven't been able to explain how the autopsy footage was physically on celluloid examined and *VERIFIED* by Kodak technicians as being 50 years old and developed in 1947. The documentary shows very clearly the code symbols on the leader of the film (a circle and a triangle) that Kodak used back then to indicate the year the film was developed. Sure, you could put those symbols on a fake film (if you were even aware that Kodak did that back then), but you would be putting them on NEW celluloid. Even if unexposed movie film from that era was still around and available for exposure, it would still not be usable due to deterioration of the chemicals over time. The fact that the autopsy was physically on 50 year-old celluloid, and developed back then, is pretty convincing for me. "

This is not the case. No film with ANY image from this video was ever verified, period. Clear leader was shown to Kodak in Hollywood and the rest of the verification was done over the phone based on the 3 edge code markings from that clear leader. Again, ZERO film with image has ever been seen, dated or even touch by anyone outside of the Santilli camp, and even then, there's no proof they ever saw any film with the released alien autopsy image(s) on it.

It's not that bad, actually. If you are on a "Plan 9" mood.
fjhuerta-230 July 2005
Warning: Spoilers
It's actually hard to write 10 lines about this... uh... "event" that aired on Fox (Hey, would Fox lie to you? Case closed!).

Then again, it's the minimum length, so I have to try. I "like" this special so much, somehow I ended up owning it in LD. While copying old discs to DVD, I found this "gem" again, so I decided to give it a try, 10 years after I first got it. I remember not being impressed at all the first time I watched it. Then again, I hadn't seen "Plan 9 from Outer Space" yet, so now I had the clear advantage of cynicism and sarcasm.

Anyway. The whole thing is pretty interesting, since from the start you are treated to "fair and unbiased" journalism ("what we have here... is not... a human being..." says the LD jacket cover. I wonder what the supposed expert really said about the film). The people who support the authenticity of the film are (shock! surprise! spoiler!) Ray Santilli and some investigator that is sure the supposed cameraman is telling the truth. The rest of the investigation focuses on unknown people. Stan Winston makes an appearance. Quite frankly, he and his team of FX experts look like very, very bad actors. I wonder if he was paid for saying he wouldn't be able to replicate the alien on-screen. I wonder if he lost some work because directors saw him in the film and thought "well, if Stan can't do this alien, we'd better get someone else who is better at this whole SFX thing".

The alien autopsy itself is something of a cult movie for me. I'm pretty sure people 10 or 20 years from now will look back and say "hey, look! Those 1990-something people were kinda dumb! they thought that was an alien!" So I'm keeping my LD and my DVD, just in case eBay still exists 30 years from now.

Clearly fake
nerdspringer@aol.com22 December 2004
This is supposedly a videotape that was made in the 1940s to document an alien autopsy. If so, then we have serious problems. The doctors behave more like barely-decent actors than medical professionals. They make many errors that show that they know little about autopsies. Another problem is that the the quality of the footage is very poor for something purporting to show an the dissection actual extraterrestrial being. I would have expected it to be in color (still a novelty in the 1940s).

One important question is: if this an extraterrestrial that evolved independently light-years away, why does it bear such a striking resemblance to a deformed human child? While humanoid aliens may be common in science fiction, the chances of encountering one in real life would be infinitesimal.

An amusingly bogus piece of mondo splatter alien trash
Woodyanders30 March 2008
Warning: Spoilers
The usually staid, bloodless and hideously inoffensive speculative UFO "is there life out there?" pseudo documentary genre goes the spectacularly exploitative mondo disgusto route with this delightfully crass and tasteless offering. Of course, this picture has since been exposed as a complete crock, but I still dug it anyway for the gloriously grisly premise alone. The alleged deceased extraterrestrial in question is one of those infamous Roswell little buggers that Uncle Sam doesn't want John Q. Public getting wise to. So, once again the viewer has to slog through the usual standard dreary nonsense -- elderly witnesses relating stories about their individual part in the whole Roswell affair, the subsequent government cover-up conspiracy plot, the ongoing search to unearth the truth, and so on -- prior to seeing the autopsy itself, but it's definitely worth the wait. The grainy, washed-out, starkly lit, wobbly hand-held camera footage dishes forth 17 deliciously depraved minutes of unflinchingly ghastly sci-fi sensationalism: the alien corpse is cut open, its glistening guts are fully exposed, its skull gets sliced open with a hacksaw, gleaming entrails are removed and placed in tin pans, even the space creature's brain is taken out! We're talking some great nasty (phony) gore, folks! And it's all done for the sake of illumination, because the public has the right to know what the -- ahem! -- "real" deal is! The pleasingly unpretentious narration by Jonathan Frakes (Riker on "Star Trek: The Next Generation"), Robert Wait's spare'n'spooky synthesizer music, and the fact that Oscar-winning make-up ace Stan Winston is used as an expert to comment on the footage's so-called authenticity all immeasurably enhance the infectiously macabre fun. Although a bit poky and drawn-out (it takes 18 minutes to get to the good stuff) and not without its groan-inducing wimpy moments (Frakes warns folks early on that "some of the footage you'll see in the next hour is very gruesome"), this feature overall still rates as a terrifically trashy hoot.

Great fun
bmj-0534028 July 2017
Warning: Spoilers
It's great fun to see so many people make complete fools of themselves, including the "open minded" reviewers who give any credence to it. Before you take the time to point out all the problems with this admitted hoax (is that a spoiler?), bear in mind that all the facts in the world won't convert flat-earthers.

This was good and kind of weird. What more can I say about it apart from how it was made for one it is a FAKE or as the maker like to call it Restoration (Nah!) What really Happened was one of the guys who made it the main man (ray santilli) saw footage of an alien autopsy (When he wanted film of Elvis) so he bought the footage. but by the time he got it back to england the tape had started to crumble and disappear so him and his friends made alien (a mannequin filled with meat. chicken insides sheep brain) made a set in someones living room and Faked wait sorry restored it! and people thought it was real and you probably would have if i hadn't told you now! Even now you know it was a fake it is a good watch and good Laugh(in some bits)!

Why would the government have such horrible video equipment?
baconbit26 April 2003
Anyone who holds on to even a SHRED of hope that the Alien Autopsy is real just ask yourself what I asked in my summary. Even by 1940's standards, the video tape was laughably horrible. The a government agency was trying to document an event of this importance, they would have used the best video equipment available at the time. They also would have had someone with some intelligence in handling the camera. Therefore the footage would not be blurred virtually EVERY time something important happens, and would not keep going out of frame. This was just another sad attempt by Fox to give credibility to the ridiculous. I don't remember the name, but another show completely shot down all the 'experts' contentions that it was real. Most notably these Hollywood special effects 'experts' (why not get Tom Savini if you want the best?) who claim the alien body would be virtually impossible to fake. That movie actually recreated the autopsy very easily with things available to the original filmmakers.

And of course there is no question of 'If the aliens made it here in the 40s, why did they suddenly STOP coming?' Or if you want to believe that they didn't, then how come there hasn't been a single true sighting since? distant lights in the sky don't count. Apparently they came all the way to earth at Roswell. With EVERYONE having a camcorder these days, we would see actual footage of ships, not just random lights in the sky.

Bottom line: If you want a good laugh, and you have nothing better to do, check this out. If you start believing it for a second, seek professional help.

Fairly Convincing and Well Made Documentary
Scars_Remain19 June 2008
One of my favorite things to read about and research is conspiracy theories, especially ones involving aliens. I had done some reading about the infamous Alien Autopsy and decided that it couldn't possibly be a real thing. My mind was made up and nothing was ever going to change it. That was, however, all before I saw this film. I wouldn't say I believe in it completely but I have a little less reason reason to doubt as this well done documentary was quite convincing.

There are very interesting points from doctors, government personnel, private investigators and even the late Stan Winston. What I enjoyed about this film was that it gives the viewers the side of the believers and of the skeptics so you can choose which you agree more with on your own.

I still have a lot of questions about the autopsy but this film is very intriguing and interesting. You should check it out if you're a conspiracy theory junkie like I am.

compelling and chilling(whether it's a hoax or not)
disdressed1226 May 2008
on this version of the documentary, the original 23 minute autopsy film is included directly after the documentary itself.as for the documentary,i thought it was well made, and well researched.apparently, after doing a little research into the actual autopsy film,it has been discovered to be a hoax, including a confession by the man who originally sold the story to the network for the documentary.but i can't help but wonder if he had been pressured by certain agencies to confess it was a hoax, even if it wasn't.i also noticed comments from people on this site and others, declaring that the quality of the film is too poor for what the government would have used, and that the autopsy itself is so obviously fake.most of these people don't really offer any explanation for their opinion, and ridicule people who think the film might be real, some even calling them morons.so i'm not sure how much credence should be lent to those views.plus, there were some pretty credible people(including experts in their respective fields)interviewed in the documentary, who believe the autopsy footage is either real,or an amazing, well done hoax.my own personal opinion is that i am not convinced either way.regardless,i found the movie compelling and chilling.for me,Alien Autopsy is a 9/10

If it is true....It's the find of the century!
Movie Hound Video1 January 2000
This film is a documentary that shows a 17 minute film that is suppose to show some of a 1947 Roswell UFO alien autopsy. Contains many interviews and even does a for and against argument against the validity of the footage. I suggest it for any UFO buff just for the chance for them to see the footage. Johnathan Drake hosted this show that originally aired on FOX TV.

This intriguing film is presented as a pro/con discussion of an, obviously, controversial subject.
truesdell_200018 October 2003
This is an investigative inquiry about a black and white Super 8mm film reportedly shot at a 1947 autopsy of an alien body recovered from the purported Roswell UFO crash site. The host (Jonathan Frakes: Star Trek TNG), acting as moderator, shows us the film and introduces expert commentary. Some of the people have examined the original film (as in film processing/preservation people from the cinema industry)and given their views as to the age of the original print. Other experts comment about the difficulty of creating the film as a hoax and what would be necessary to pull it off. The whole thing was very well done from the point of view of; "In the absence of proof either way, here are some things to think about." It neither proves nor disproves any of the facts purported to come from the incident. A must for anyone interested in learning more about the Roswell UFO crash site incident.

Perfect example of autopsy on a Kamikaze humanoid hybrid.
rxelex30 November 2022
What most peopel cannot accept is that for many decades UFOs have been abducting humans and cattle to be used in creating the hybrids similar to the Nephilim and halfhuman-halfanimals hybrids that were around before The Flood of 4,370 years ago.

This autopsy reveals the humanoid to be a simplified hybrid probably sent on a one-way kamikaze mission to check out the area where the US had first detonated the A bomb.

Being a kamikaze it had no need for food or water nor any way of going to the toilet in the tight body suit.

The opened body has no liver, kidneys nor intestines and has just one large organ or mass that may combine those duties and be a fat store to last the mission.
