Kaitlin Butts Is Sitting In an East Nashville coffee shop, wondering if she should tell Vince Gill that “Come Rest Your Head on My Pillow,” their romantic duet from her new album, Roadrunner!, was actually inspired by a woman in a funny but slightly crude tank top.
“It had ‘cowboy pillows’ written across her chest,” she says, laughing quietly and pulling her cow-print jacket up to her face like a privacy screen. Butts had been wandering around after her set at the Two Step Inn Festival in Texas when she...

Depending on one's beliefs, the idea of an apocalypse means different things to different people. For some, it's seen as a great unveiling, a kind of judgment in which the impure are purged. For others, the apocalypse is a sudden cataclysm that brings about the end of civilisation itself. And then there are those who are prepared for the end times, who view the fall of mankind as a cosmic mulligan, the mother of all second chances. The beauty of shows like Fear The Walking Dead is a more granular examination of these perspectives. Whether the apocalypse is good or bad goes well beyond...

Fear the Walking Dead: Red Dirt Review AMC‘s Fear the Walking Dead, season 3, episode 6, ‘Red Dirt’ might have been one of the better examples of how an in-between episode of this series could be useful, in a run-up to open conflict. Madison (Kim Dickens) & Troy (Daniel Sharman) returned to the Ranch as living [...]

Nipping at the undead heels of last night’s “Red Dirt,” Fear The Walking Dead is gearing up for its two-part midseason finale.
The AMC spinoff series, which is now in the midst of its third year on the airwaves, continues to score relatively well ratings-wise, even if it can never quite attract the same audience as its groundbreaking ancestor, The Walking Dead. And really, that’s okay.
Even before the network launched its companion series back in 2015, Fear The Walking Dead has always been viewed as its own separate beast, and now, with season 3’s halfway point looming large on the horizon, viewers are preparing to bid adieu to the Otto family – for now, at least. So, get ready to clear your weekend schedule; Fear The Walking Dead season 3 will roll out its midseason finale in the form of “The Unveiling” and “Children of Wrath,” and today brings forth...

Season 3, Episode 6: Red Dirt Plot: Things get tense between residents of Broke Jaw Ranch as they prepare to be invaded by outside forces. Review: Six episodes into the show's third season, I realized that Fear the Walking Dead is repeating itself with this storyline of Jeremiah Otto (Dayton Callie) struggling to rein in his homicidal son Troy (Daniel Sharman). Is the Clark family the third wheel of the zombie apocalypse on this week's Fear The Walking Dead?
This review contains spoilers.

3.6 Red Dirt
For a drama-heavy hour with so much promise, I wanted to like Red Dirt more than I did. Indeed, this episode has domestic drama to spare, presenting a family rife with dysfunction. This is great from a storytelling perspective—the more conflict, the better. The only problem? The heart of Red Dirt rightfully belongs to the Ottos, and yet they’re forced to share the spotlight with the Clark family. Had this not been the case, this could have easily been a top notch episode. The Otto family is slowly coming apart at the seams, and as such, so is the insular community that calls the ranch home.

Man, are the grave diggers at the Otto ranch ever gonna be exhausted. Sunday’s Fear the Walking Dead bumped off not a character or two but an entire family. And possibly even more disturbing, the cause of death was neither walkers nor Walker and his land-reclaiming tribe — and Madison ably lied about the massacre to further her own agenda. What did in the Trembol clan, and how did Nick and Alicia’s mother hope to turn the bloody mess to her advantage? Read on…

Emmylou Harris may have considered herself a "Red Dirt Girl," but she certainly found plenty of fame over the course of her career.
The singer-songwriter has left quite a mark on country music, working with everyone from Bob Dylan to Roy Orbison to Dolly Parton. In the 1960s, Emmylou dropped out of college to pursue music in New York City, where she married her first husband and recorded her first album, "Gliding Bird." The marriage soon unraveled, and Emmylou moved to Washington D.C.
Over the next 40 years, the stunning brunette stood out amongst her various famous collaborators and bandmates, becoming a popular fixture on the music scene and earning 12 Grammys. Like a certain country singer today (ahem, Taylor Swift), Emmylou had many failed attempts at love, including 3 marriages that ended in divorce.
Along the way, the chart-topper maintained her trademark bohemian style and gorgeous head of hair. As Emmylou...

Open with Sam and Dean looking into the archeological digging sites funded by Dick Roman. But Sam finds no connection between the digging sites, while Dean comes up empty as far as their lores are concerned.
The sites are clean; absolutely no red flags (Major Red flag?) and they have no connection with each other. It seems they are good old fashioned digging sites and nothing else.
Ever predictable Dean opens his flask and out pops Bobby to flickering lights and sudden chills. It seems he more or less Genies up when the flask is opened, but he still hasn’t got a handle on how and when he will disappear again. While he's not a household name, Andre Williams is known among R&B and blues fans for recording filthy-sounding, gutbucket soul since the '50s. Williams has experienced some highs in his career, recording for a subsidiary of Motown in the early '60s and legendary Chicago blues label Chess later in the decade. And he's had some crushing lows, struggling with drug addiction and living on the streets of Chicago for a spell in the '80s. But he rebounded in the '90s, hooking up with the excellent Canadian roots-rock band The Sadies for 1999's Red Dirt, and re-fashioning ...

SXSW is a monster. There are 2000 bands playing over five days and after a while every band, be it indie rock, hip hop, or swing starts to sound identical. Every band that is, except Emmylou Harris and her Red Dirt Boys. The legendary singer's crooning countrified voice swirled over the scene like a cloud, entrancing everyone who heard it. In the middle of SXSW, IFC was lucky enough to host the performer for an intimate interview and concert where Ms. Harris lulled the crowd into a state of sheer awe. The singer and guitarist played songs off her new album "Hard Bargain" and showed these SXSW kids a thing or two about how a legend is made.
Before her set, Ms. Harris sat down with performer and IFC's SXSW music host Ted Leo to talk shop:

The story goes…
A group of students from Brooklyn housing projects are paired with pen pals from Sierra Leone, orphans from that country’s brutal civil war. The two groups of students begin to share everything, from favorite colors and sibling rivalries, to grief over the current circumstances of their lives. Their simple written connection shows them that even if they can’t count on the world they live in, they can count on each other.
Brownstones To Red Dirt is “a tender and inspiring tale that demonstrates the power of intimate friendship.”
Currently on the film festival circuit… no word on distribution.
