A very poor rating and I personally find little fault with the opinions expressed.

A mailman, sick and tired of his boring routine job in Paris meets one of his friends who suggest he become an army mailman in Indochina."I know, there's a war there, but for you mailman it will be safe".

A paradise on earth ,it is not ,except may be for getting Asian girls the macho soldiers treat as sex objects.

After Dien Bien Phu,French soldiers are ordered to withdraw;but our heroes are caught in a(historically accurate) ambush ,and ,prisoners of the Vietminh, taken to a re-education camp .Their wardens want them to be born again,to become true men, that is to say commies. This part of the movie should have been the most interesting but it's a spate of clichés:one can only save the scene when Daniel Ceccaldi answers to his "teacher" in such an intellectual way nobody (including the viewer) understands .

The ending of the novel was sweetened .Not one of Aznavour's best roles and however the part was tailor made for him!Music by his collaborator Georges Gavarentz ,including a martial anthem which does not compare favorably with that of "Un taxi Pour Tobrouk".
