When the film was first planned in the early 60's, Sanjeev Kumar was to be launched in the film. But due to delays,Sanjeev ended up signing some B grade films. When Saraswatichandra was finally announced, Sanjeev Kumar was shocked to see he was not signed. When he confronted Govinda Saraiya why he went back on his promise, Govind told him he could not cast him as he had already worked in B grade stunt films. A stunt film actor would not suit the film. Sanjeev was dejected by this. Years later when Govind wanted to remake the film in Gujarati, he approached Sanjeev Kumar. Sanjeev told him a Hindi film star should not do regional films as it would hurt his star status. Govind knew Sanjeev was saying this due to his earlier rejection. Finally Sanjeev's younger brother Kishore Jariwala was signed for the film Gun Sundari No Ghar.
