Recensione in evidenza
This truly awful Vivid release is self-indulgence with a capital S, as Paul Thomas and his scripter Carl Esser thumb their noses at their audience and the moneybags running Vivid Video with a feature-length stunt well worth avoiding.
The gimmick, which at first I foolishly assumed was a variation on the clever use of a balladeer in the Western classic "Cat Ballou", has an endless rhyming song spoken by Esser on the soundtrack with a catchy beat reciting nonsense about what we're watching. Until the final embarrassing "reality versus fantasy" wrap-up coda to the film, there's no dialogue, just a set of familiar porn actors continuously having sex as we listen to Esser's song droning on or occasionally laying out in favor of jazz or harmonica music. If that sounds boring, you're correct, sir!
An overall Halloween theme goes nowhere but gives Esser something to sing about, not amusingly or clever but what I can only call "infra dig". Carl is no beat poet but apparently had his heart set on perhaps recording a comedy LP of his nonsensical rhyming gibberish, but no mainstream success for this guy.
Infidelity is the only theme I managed to conjure from painfully watching this gussied-up version of Gonzo porn, and the cast, including a pre-boob enhancement Alicyn Sterling and a bored Jon Dough are basically sex workers rather than actors here. PT probably thought the whole thing was an amusing goof. My conclusion was "Rockin' the Boat" is merely a goof.
