What a treasure!

When you think of animation, Poland is not one of the first countries that comes to mind. How refreshing, then, to run into not only an original Polish cartoon, but a TV series that has become a long lasting classic! Bolek i Lolek is unique in that the stories are not conveyed through the use of dialogue. In 1963, this was a very creative approach. The Pink Panther cartoons could be considered one of it's few parallels. As for the plots, the imagination is given free reign as we join the two young boys on fantastic imaginary adventures. They build a space rocket, drive a car that turns into a horse, meet the abominable snowman(aka Yeti), become cowboys, etc. The animation technique is distinctive, the music well done, and the sound effects superb. While there is no dialogue, that doesn't rule out voice characterizations, although not to the degree of Dr. Seuss' character, Gerald McBoing Boing. An evil adversary emits wicked laughter, a pet dog sniffs loudly, and so on. This series should really be more well known then it already is , as it uses a universal language. Your comprehension of world animation is not complete without Bolek i Lolek!

For a long, long time, it was one of the most succesful animation series in the Central-East communist states. After decades, the charm remains the same. The causes - lovely simplicity, absence of dialogue, hommage to friendship, realism of situations and music. And, the well craft.

A polish cartoon classic
patrickfilbeck27 November 2021
Just heartwarming, this classic cartoon series from Poland. Having fun and conveying seemingly simple, but nowadays increasingly rare values make these cult characters a treasure. It's about the love for nature, about experiencing adventures, about the importance of learning and education and about the beauty of life, without an ever increasing consumer behavior and the almost fanatical focus on products and buying them. A treasure that you should discover today if you haven't already appreciated it.
