Fast Times at Ridgemont High is a classic 1980s movie that has stood the test of time. One of the reasons for its enduring popularity is the memorable soundtrack that accompanies the film. The Go-Go's "We Got the Beat" kicks off the movie and its upbeat pop style helps set the tone. The Tom Petty classic "American Girl" helps present Stacy as the true lead character of the movie and establishes this as her coming-of-age story.
The Fast Times at Ridgemont High soundtrack is full of great songs by such legendary musical artists as Led Zeppelin and Stevie Nicks. The movie charts a year in the lives of a group of students at the titular high school as they endure strict teachers, entry-level jobs, and awkward early sexual encounters. Cameron Crowe adapted the script from his book of the same name, which was based on Crowes own experiences undercover at...

Garth Ennis' series The Boys offers a critical look at American culture, which it achieved through raunchy humor, relentless violence, and an overall lack of inhibitions in a sense, capturing the spirit of Generation X art. Garth Ennis' work on The Boys reflects Gen X's rejection of cultural standards, in part through his unimpeded effort to bring uncomfortable realities of everything from the superhero genre to the excesses of corporate America to the surface of his narrative. The lasting popularity of The Boys , thanks to its ongoinf Amazon TV adaptation, showcases Gen X's influence on contemporary pop culture; while not all facets of Gen X art may be embraced today, its core values continue to resonate with non-Gen X audiences.
Beyond just a superhero satire, The Boys, at its best, was an effective critique of American culture, one that could arguably be called the last truly potent "Gen X" intellectual property.

The Suicide Squad Isekai announcement has sparked a lot of discussion within the anime fandom, as rather than being a traditional adaption of the stories found in DC's comics, the team behind it has instead opted to go in a totally different direction. While this may seem strange on paper, the Suicide Squad Isekai is the latest in a long and storied tradition of Japanese creators taking DC's legendary characters and putting a new twist on them. In fact, this tradition stretches back to the 1960s when Jiro Kuwata made a unique manga based on Batman.

British duo Everything But the Girl have shared another new song, “Run a Red Light,” from their forthcoming comeback album, Fuse, out April 21.
The song is a smoldering ballad, with producer Ben Watt weaving buzzing synths and heavy kicks around a steady piano progression. Tracey Thorn captures the feeling of invincibility and vulnerability that late-night adventures conjure, building to a hook where she sings, “Run a red light, forget the morning, this is tonight.”

A musical hint comes at the very start of “Bullet Train,” out now, when a new version of the Bee Gees’ disco classic “Stayin’ Alive” is sung in Japanese – because an American assassin code-named Ladybug (Brad Pitt) is going to spend the next two hours attempting to do just that, battling half a dozen other killers on a high-speed train from Tokyo to Kyoto.
An over-the-top movie like “Bullet Train” demanded an over-the-top score, composer Dominic Lewis (“The King’s Man”) decided, and he spent more than a year not only writing the entire score but also producing (and in several cases co-writing) the songs heard throughout David Leitch’s action thriller.
Leitch’s previous movies have been littered with songs, Lewis knew (“he’s a needle-drop guy”), so his concept became: “Can I write something in the style of a needle-drop, that feels like a song but is doing the job of scoring,...

Go-go music is the soundtrack of Washington, D.C. Despite a four-decade history and a few national hits like “Da Butt,” by Experience Unlimited (E.U.), and “Shake Your Thang,” by Salt-n-Pepa with E.U., the funk offshoot, often referred to as a cousin of hip-hop, is a proudly regional music — born in the nation’s capital and embraced and supported by fans in D.C., Maryland, and Virginia. A trip to the city will reveal the music blasting from automobiles and businesses as new bands carry on the...

In a crowded theatrical landscape, how do local films with smaller budgets find a path to audience when competing against studio tentpoles and blockbusters?
A key way to get cut-through is via carefully crafted publicity and marketing campaigns, which speak to not only what the film is but who it is for.
Despite their importance in creating interest in a project, the quality and quantity of the materials that make up a campaign are often at the mercy of the available budget, time and producer priorities.
The perception that a movie is ‘sold’ to audiences only after it is wrapped and completed means unit publicists tasked with devising a publicity plan do not always have access to the areas they need in order to capture effective assets during production.
In the last few years, a shift towards streaming and subsequent changes to the traditional modes of distribution, such as shorter...

A Zoom press conference Tuesday featuring California Film Commission director Colleen Bell and Dee Dee Myers, the state’s newly appointed director of the Governor’s Office of Business and Economic Development, was disrupted by a Zoom-bomber who spewed racist and sexist profanities, accompanied by fits of loud screaming, before finally slinking off to bother someone else.
“I have never had this happen,” Bell said apologetically. “I’ve been on a couple of hundred Zoom calls, and that’s the first time I’ve been hacked.”
Myers agreed. “This was my first Zoom hack as well,” she said after the hacker left following a few minutes of inane blather, loud music and random cartoon imagery.
When the conference resumed, Bell returned to her pitch for the importance of the state’s annual $330 million tax incentives program administered by the commission, which is a state program within the governor’s Go-Biz office.

Combs can’t believe he got to go off-roading with Austin. For his part, Austin can’t believe Season 2 of his unorthodox talk show, which was supposed to begin production on March 30, is in the can and coming to USA Network.

In case you’ve been living under a rock, “Wonder Woman 1984” finally makes its debut Christmas morning on HBO Max.
The availability of the long-awaited and oft-delayed sequel to Patty Jenkins’ 2017 smash hit starring Gal Gadot on streaming will undoubtedly make eager consumers try to figure out if they should purchase the $14.99-a-month streaming service. But we have an early Christmas present for those who already subscribe to HBO:

Customers who subscribe to HBO, either directly via the HBO app (what used to be known as HBO Now), or via their pay-tv operator (including WarnerMedia’s parent company AT&T), only have to download...

It goes without saying that, for just about everyone, 2020 was a no-good, very-bad year. But for a handful of artists, it was, numbers-wise, actually a very good year indeed – the year they rose from obscurity to stardom, all without leaving their homes.
But who had the best year? We can get a good idea by looking at who had the biggest growth in audio streams from January through November compared to 2019, the same methodology that powers Rolling Stone’s monthly Breakthrough 25 Chart. These are some of the artists who saw...

It appears as though there’s trouble in paradise. Could Christopher Nolan and Warner Bros. be breaking up? The studio has been the filmmaker’s home since 2002’s Insomnia, and WB took a huge gamble on Nolan this past summer when it released Tenet in theaters during the Covid-19 pandemic. But all that was before WB, and perhaps more crucially WarnerMedia, opted to go in the opposite direction. It was before WB announced its entire 2021 film slate would premiere simultaneously on HBO Max and in theaters.
As you’ve likely heard by now, the Tenet director and champion of all things theatrical did not take it well.
“Some of our industry’s biggest filmmakers and most important movie stars went to bed the night before thinking they were working for the greatest movie studio and woke up to find out they were working with the worst streaming service,” Nolan complained with uncharacteristic bluntness to THR.

We know you’ve watched the video for “Let It Go” from “Frozen” a million times, and in it you’ve seen Elsa quickly materializing a snowman that would become Olaf. What we don’t see is immediately after that, and this new clip for the short film “Once Upon a Snowman” gives an origin story for everyone’s favorite hug-loving snowman.
“Once Upon a Snowman” is a short film that’s spunoff from “Frozen” starring Josh Gad that begins just as he wakes up after Elsa sings her iconic anthem. This clip shows that her cape effortlessly floating off into the distance actually collides with Olaf and sends him tumbling down a snowy cliff. And now he’s having an instant existential crisis.
“I’m alive! Who said that? I said that,” Olaf says in the clip. “I appear to be some sort of snowman. How absurd, how is it that even possible?...

WarnerMedia is preparing to enact a wave of layoffs that will result in thousands of employees in the company’s film and television teams losing their jobs, but Covid-19 isn’t the only culprit. Industry analysts tell IndieWire that although all entertainment companies are impacted by the coronavirus pandemic, Warner is in acute financial difficulties after the underwhelming launch of WarnerMedia’s HBO Max streaming service as well as a lack of box-office revenue, reduced income from cable subscriptions, and television advertising.
First reported by The Wall Street Journal October 8, the AT&T-owned company plans a restructuring that will cause job losses at Warner Bros. studios and television channels such as HBO, TBS, and TNT. The impending layoffs are part of an effort to reduce the company’s costs by up to 20 percent.
