For her upcoming movie ‘Gangs Of Ghosts’, actress Mahie Gill has taken inspiration from legendary actress Meena Kumari. For a song, Mahie had to emulate Meena Kumari. The actress watched a number of movies of the legendary actress in order to bring her acting to perfection. The song ‘Nahi Dungi, Nahi Dungi, Dil mera fokat mein nahi dungi’ is inspired by Meena Kumari. “I am a huge Meena Kumari fan so it was a great honour for me to emulate her on screen. Unlike Alice, I’ve always enjoyed my romps through wonderland. I really liked Meena Kumari, her Dil Ek Mandir (1963) with Rajendra Kumar is one of my favourite films. There were so many others too, their names I’ve forgotten but their memories still charm. Growing up, I spent a lot of time in the darkened theatres. I idolised Dilip Kumar, I’ve seen all his movies, 30-40 times each. Once, when I was shooting for Farz (’67) at Vijay Studio, he was on an adjacent floor, filming Ram Aur Shyam (’67). From the child artist controlled by her father - who had initially left her in an orphanage at birth - to the superstar tragedienne in movies such as Dil Apna Aur Preet Parayi, Dil Ek Mandir Hai, Sahib Bibi Aur Ghulam, Chandan Ka Palna, Aarti; Kaajal, and Main Chup Rahungi. Meena was an artist of stature and probably one of the first Bollywood female superstars who...
