Exploitation Film

Isobel Lillian Steele was an American who lived in Germany during the early years of the Nazi era. She was imprisoned by the German government for espionage and treason, and after several months was released and exiled. She returned to the United States and proceeded to make some money off her travails. She wrote a book, sold the story to the movies and appeared in this, the film of her story, as herself. Somehow, it got past the Hays Office -- probably because it was offered as a factual movie rather than a story.

Miss Steele was not a particularly good actress and this is a cheap production. To my cynical mind, it raises as many questions as it answers. Sometimes, it's not enough to tell the truth. Sometimes you have to appear to be telling the truth in an engaging fashion. This movie does not.
