Co-creator Kenny Schwartz based Beacon Street Pizza on the restaurant at which he worked while a student at Tufts University. The pizza place is still in operation in Teele Square, Somerville, and is called Broadway Eatery.
While in Boston to promote Van Wilder (2002), Ryan Reynolds tried to locate Beacon Street Pizza, not realizing that it was fictional.
A significant amount of secondary characters introduced in season one disappear by season two including Melissa (Pete's girlfriend), Bill (the owner of Beacon Street Pizza), and Mr. Bauer (the eccentric regular at the pizza place). Eventually, by season three, the premise of the pizza place was completely abandoned and the show became, simply titled, "Two Guys and a Girl".
Ryan Reynolds and Nathan Fillion would both go on to play the comic book hero Green Lantern in 2011, with Reynolds doing the live-action Green Lantern (2011), and Fillion doing the animated Green Lantern: Emerald Knights (2011).
The theme from season one is an instrumental version of Violent Femmes' 1983 song "Blister in the Sun".
