The title of the show is a reference to the hit comedy song "Goodness Gracious Me" by Peter Sellers and Sophia Loren, in which Sellers plays an Indian doctor in brownface makeup and sings the title phrase.
The show began on BBC Radio 4.
In series 2, the music (most obviously the end song-sketch) was by Richard Webb, also known as Richie Webb, whom had earlier appeared in BBC1 Saturday-morning show Live and Kicking as part of a comedy trio, and later would create the historical music numbers for the cult classic and award-winning live action version of "Horrible Histories".
One sketch includes the very rare, non-ironic discussion of Freudian theory in relation to child development before getting back to the jokes.
